Hi guys, new to the forum but have been fiddling with my ex since the launch date. My phone was rooted using root my droid one click app. Everything was working fine up until the latest system update. Now my root apps do not have root acces. I tried re rooting my phone usingthe root my droid app and it says that root was successful but my wifi tether still doesn't work and titanium backup says no root access even though I dled a new busy box. Any help would greatly be appreciated. BTW I have searched the forum over and over and have not found anything like this. Thanks in advance

Easy fix. Download z4Root Download z4root 1.3.0 for Android Free - z4root will root your device and enable you to supply system level access to applications that request it. - Softpedia
Install it. Reboot before you run it. Select Permanent Root and give it time. It'll reboot and your rooted.

I tried to locate the app at the market place but discovered it had been removed. I am confused about what "side load" means. Does this mean I can use my android x browser, go to the xda download site and download it there? Or, do I need to download it to my pc and copy it over? Update: I can see it on the sdcard via Astro File Manager. If I hard press it I have the following File Options: 1) Open as. 2) Edit. 3) Extract. I was going to extract but not sure this is the correct move. Wondering if it should be moved to an applications directory but I don't see how to perform that function.

Don't know if you've already figured this out yet or not, but if you short-press the filename in Astro (vs. long-press), you should see a pop-up titled "Application File" with a "Browse File" button and an "Open App Manager" button. The "Open App Manager" button is where the magic is.

If you have z4root on your sdcard, then an easy way (the way I did it) was to install appinstaller from the Market and run it or you can use the Open App Manager. Then navigate to your z4root file (I put mine in my downloads folder on my sdcard). Then install it and it should tell you the app was installed. Then it should give you a choice of OPEN or DONE, select OPEN (z4root) and then you should see a pretty light blue colored screen that has two selections: 1. Temp Root 2. Perminant Root. Select Perminant Root. It will then think about it for a few minutes and then reboot. If it hangs for a long time, then do a battery pull restart your phone and do it again. (I had one this morning that did this and the second time worked like a charm)

Found this by reading post after post at xda developers: I also included my response.
This process was smooth with a couple hitches. The only tweak neccessary for myself was to disable Anti-Virus software (Kaspersky in my case). The first few attempts I made to download z4root.1.3.0.apk resulted in Kaspersky somehow corrupting the file. After disabling Kaspersky, downloading and then transfering it to the droid, as outlined in the steps by mjwired, the application ran almost smoothly.
I say almost because it did not seem to catch the first go around. The screen was blue and you could see the little wheel in the middle turning around. After 10 minutes of this I hit the back button, powered off and on, and ran the application again. This time it worked.
If you are tethering, I did not remove the tethering application and it worked smoothly after the rooting was complete.
For those who were previously rooted, I was also previously rooted with the super-one-click option. I did not remove this.
After all that, I do like the idea of emailing the application and running it that way!
