Root Early Upgrade

Valkerie

Android Enthusiast
I recently discovered that I'm eligible for an early upgrade. I know this has been talked about before, and that this may be the wrong forum(it gets more traffic than the other Ally one), but what are your thoughts on current VZW offerings?

****edit***
Just went and ordered a Dinc2 from the Verizon website. They were at least $50-$100 cheaper than any of the brick-and-mortar stores I've been to in the last few days. Hope I made the right decision. I do certainly know I'm going to miss everyone here in the Ally corner of the Android world. I will still be keeping up with everything here too.

We'll see if it gets here in 2 days, course day 2 is a Saturday...

I recently upgraded my phone to a Droid X (thanks to a friend getting the iphone), while there are no roms that apples to apples compare to Velocity there are some really excellent roms with a ton of support.

Granted it has it's limitations (no 4G, no dual core and bad battery life) it's still my pick for the best 3g Android phone for Verizon.

Well, they made this phone. They called it the incredible.

It is a good phone, fast, stable with TONS of developer attention. It is easy to root and work with. It is probably free of cheap with upgrade price

They then made another phone. They called it the incredible 2

I dont have one, nor have I seen one. But the incredible one is still awesome, so personally. I would get a dinc, and save $150

I have friends with Droid2 and DroidX's..... I dont like them...

I have rooted countless samsung phones.... I dont like them...

HTC is an awesome brand. Stick with HTC and you will be happy.

i moved up to the inc2, best decision of my life. alot more expensive than the origional inc, but i love it. its been publicly rooted for about 2 days now and has 6 roms and counting including CM7. front facing camera supporting video chat, 1ghz stock and i have mine oc'd at 1.38. Gingerbread OTA yesterday. i agree with savoxis, HTC is the best hands down and my favorite HTC phone is the inc 2

The Dinc2 is only $99 right now for my upgrade. I am considering that, the Droid 3, and the Revolution.

Any word on the Dinc2's bootloader? Of the 3 the Dinc2 is the cheapest.

Pretty sure i read an article that they got s-off on it. And i know htc has even promised to unlock the evo3d and other new phones with an update. Unrelated but just another reason my next phone is probably gonna be htc.

I am also considering the dinc2 for my next phone, my friend has one and i've been fiddling around over on the dinc2 forum. S-off, root and rom's are already achieved and available as mentioned above, very nice. My only complaint is no slide out keyboard... which is the main reason I <3 my Ally.

Wait for Droid Bionic, it should be out in the next month or 2, will be dual core and 4G. Just out of curiosity, is verizon letting you keep unlimited data with early upgrade or are they going to try and screw you over and make you switch to a tiered data plan?

Right, but terms of early upgrade might require a new contract and / or plan. BTW Valkerie, how did you find out about the early upgrade, did they email you or did you ask a representative?

Doesn't matter when you upgrade. My friend manages a Verizon in Cupertino CA next to my place of work and if I wanted to upgrade early today I could, to a 4g phone with unlimited data from my Dinc

I don't need 4G, it probably won't be in my area for at least a couple more years. I was noodling around the VZW website a couple of days ago when I noticed it said I was eligible. I do like the D3, but I'm unsure of community support and the screen is a little weird. I played with an X2 just to see the qHD in action and I wasn't very impressed, hell I think the Ally's screen is crisper.

The Revolution is unlocked, but I don't know if I want to fork over $200 for that. The only thing really holding me back from the Dinc2 is the single core, though I'm sure I'd be more than happy with it.

Does the Inc2 have Gorilla Glass? I've loved how freaking sturdy the Ally screen is...saw some doof with an iPhone4 w/ shattered screen tapping away yesterday.
