East Coast Earthquake..

For those who live under a rock, there was a 5.9 in Virginia. Felt it all the way here on Long Island. My facebook is going crazy with statuses and this is officially the first earthquake I've experienced, I was asleep for the last one.

Congrats! I was in the Northridge Earthquake of '94 (aka Los Angeles Earthquake '94), which was a 6.8. I was about 1 mile away from the epicenter so umm... yeah that was definitely the biggest one I've ever felt and still have vivid memories of that night.

I didn't feel anything here in Manhattan.

I was in a pet store. I heard stuff shaking and stuff but I didnt feel anything. I didn't know what happened until people started talking about it lol
I was pretty excited actually :)

I'm in NYC and didn't feel a thing. Called my mother in Boston and they didn't feel anything either. It's still scary though. You don't expect this kind of thing around here.

I find it so puzzling how there are two rare occurrences of earthquakes of 5.0+ magnitude within a very short time frame of each other not in the same geographical region yet there is yet to still be a big one in LA. I remember there was a fairly significant one in San Diego a while back but that's still a ways away from LA.

I know...geez...California still hasn't broken off and become an island like they've been saying for years.

lol that's actually a myth... urban legend... whatever it's called

What is true though is that LA is moving incredibly slowly towards SF so perhaps someday it'll be referred to as the LA-SF metro area. hehe... if we aren't taken over by aliens by then.

My parents and sister live 2 hrs away from where it orginated. Don't think any of them have ever been in one before, but with me living in SW AZ, I've felt quite a few.

Did you feel it? I did. My studio (I'm a singing teacher) started to shake. It was my first one felt. Weird. At first, I thought I was getting dizzy.

I realize that a 6.0 is nothing to West Coaster, but hey, we don't get them here much. I'm in NJ, btw.

Apparently, they felt it all the way up to Ontario.

Is there like some kind of buffer that Manhattan has? I didn't feel a thing here.

I'm not exactly sure how rare it is for the east coast but I was reading reports that people at the Pentagon thought it was an attack.

Felt it here (Albany, NY), I was out on my back deck and thought my chair was breaking at first, then realized it was an earthquake. I was sort of rolling in my chair and the wood on the deck was creaking, it was pretty neat. The in-ground pole mounted bird feeders were swaying, so were the dead trees in the woods.
My sister lives in Fairfax VA and my nephew works in DC...they said they were really rocking!
Also have a sister in NC (Cary area), she felt it as well.

Felt it up in Burlington, VT. At first I thought it was just my chair doing something weird, but then noticed my window shade was swaying.

I live in the eastern panhandle of WV, and I felt it shake a good bit, last about a minute... maybe a little less. I used to live in LA though, so I have experienced medium - large earthquakes before.

Cell service went out temporarily (could text but not call), was a little annoying :)

I was just reading my local online news and saw that we had a local, unrelated, 2.2 magnitude earthquake this morning! It was about 5 miles from me, I was sleeping so felt nothing. Weird though...

I hope these earthquakes aren't foreshadows for whenever the "big one" hits LA.

You know, I was thinking the same thing. Wasnt there a quake in Colorodo? Now today theres one in Virginia that was felt all the way to New York and beyond. I just hope this isnt a prelude of things to come. But I have to say this..its been a real eerie year when it comes to mother nature. Think about it. We had more snow in NY than the last couple years. More flooding. All those tornados. That heatwave. Now the earthquake. And this is all in the span of six months.

Nice, yeah I've lived in several areas of the country, spent most of my middle school - high school + years here though. I love it, nice and peaceful :)

It definitely is peaceful. My parents still live in the area so i enjoy it when I go back (minus the humidity). What high school and grad year? I was Jefferson and '00

No buffer. They felt it in Manhattan. The Battery Tunnel was closed and so were some gov't buildings, from what I understand.

Now that's a small world! I graduated in 1999 and from Jefferson :-)
