Easy Root, The Newest 1-Touch DROID Rooting App

anyone have any idea why this app turns on BT?

BTW.. I just pushed the button.. committed now :)

piece of cake, now rooted, playing with some rooted apps: adfree, dropcaps, titanium backup, now want to see about getting my old baseband back

In the all things root subforum there is a sticky that has all of the basebands in it. There is also a list of ROMS with reviews in the ROMS subforum. As far as which one to use it is purely choice. My normal routine is to flash one, get it set the way I like it, then make a nandroid backup. That way if I don't like the next one I do I can just restore back to the one I like the most. If you need any help PM me and I will try my best.

Were you on stock 2.1 or 2.2 before you pushed the button? If so which?

I was 2.1 before I pushed the button... still 2.1, just rooted. plan to pick a 2.2 in the coming days now that I am rooted

There is a post in the other easy root thread stating that this app has been breaking peoples phones.

Its speculation at this point that its being caused by the root method of apps like this and its not actually breaking phones just causing issues. Which for one did make his phone hard to get back to normal.

I will say I never heard of a Droid changing its recovery back to stock on its own before the DMUpdater Beta and Easy Root apps showed up.

Ok, I just figured that changing the recovery was essentially "breaking" the phone.

So in other words you guys wouldn't use it ?

I wouldn't use it. But that is just because I am weary about things like this. The idea of being able to root with just one click is kind of frightening. It seems safer to root the traditional way.

My motto: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

the first ROM I loaded didn't work out so well, so I was flashed back to rooted-eclair. Do I have to worry about the OTA as it'll be a few weeks before I have time to pick out and flash another?

From what I understand, you can ignore the update as long as you want, but it will keep reminding you about it every 30 minutes. However, it seems that the update probably won't be coming out until at least next week now. If you are one of the unlucky few who don't get the update until that last day, you could be looking at another two weeks +/- a day or two before you have to worry about being bugged every 30 minutes with the update.

I am one of the guys OMJ is talking about and for me, it turned into a whole fiasco and in the end, I did it the traditional way thanks to guys like OMJ helping solve the issue. I give it credit for motivating me to root, but in the end, it turned into a total nightmare for me. can't say exactly what the cause was, no one can just yet but it seems to be related to the clockworkMD and SPRecovery area, but having done a more traditional root now, it seems the issue that nearly bricked my phone and caused me to scramble from 9pm until 2am and then this morning at 6am until 11, is resolved at the moment.

so no, I would not do it again.

I am glad to hear that you have been able to bring your droid back from near death and are now happily rooted.

I am strongly considering rooting and I almost thought about using this app, but decided that I would just keep researching the traditional way.

Thanks for confirming that this is definitely not the way to root, even though I'm sure you probably almost had (or did have) a heart attack or two.

Actually, I don't know much about one touch jailbreaking. I never even considered jailbreaking my iTouch because I knew that the second I did, I would never get it back to stock. I figured I would end up selling it or giving it to a family member someday. I did sell it and I probably wouldn't have gotten as much as I did for it if it was jailbroken.

And yea, there are quite a few reviews on the market for this app that are saying that it works great, but I still don't trust it. Then again, I probably wouldn't trust someone trying to give me a million dollars in cash either. There just seems to be something fishy about it.

So the restore button in itunes will actually undo a jailbreak? That is interesting. I may have to get a cheap iTouch just to see what all the fuss is about jailbreaking. Especially if I can go back to stock that easily.

you just restore to Official Apple Firmware. :)

I think it was....... left click restore to select the file... then restore.

you can dl the firmware...

You can go to ipodtouchfans.com... to learn more about jailbreaking.

I better hold off on that until I get things straight with rooting my Droid. I would hate to get mixed up and accidentally try to "jailbreak" my Droid and "root" and iTouch. :D:p

Thanks for the info though.

Ok guys. Myself and Lock-N-Load are the two guys who have had problems with the one touch root programs whether it be easy root, or DMupdater (beta posted at Droid Life). The issue isn't whether or not the root works and is successful, it's that for whatever reason, both of these programs don't seem to allow Rom Manager to successfully flash clockworkmod. You can reboot into it once, then it goes back to the stock exclamation point the next time you try to reboot into it.

At this point, I would be very hesitant about trying to flash a rom at this point as at least two reboots are needed to do so.

See my thread where this is discussed a little more in depth and a permanent solution is discussed. http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/141480-clockworkmod-freaking-out-me.html#post1311250http://

I do regret that I didn't the updated version of Easy Root that has the unroot button. That would have been nice until November when my warranty expires.

But I have insurance on it and they should replace the phone if it bricks but like I said, no issues yet.
