I do a lot of reading on technical things I buy. I try to be very informed before I buy and after.
From my understanding, sprint has lost a lot of money in the last few quarters thus the reason it was very important to get the Hero out asap.
Still losing money and promising to make up for it by the end of the year, which is what they are doing right now, they are going to be in a rush to get 2.0 on these devices. I believe it will arrive by any means they can b4 the end of the year. I see it like this. The hero doesn't have the latest tech. I really don't think it needs it. I it's lagginess is due to poor or rushed coding in the os. With the update will come a better experience and I think this is widely known.
Sure we could all use 1ghz processors. Hell, would all like core I7s in our phones but it just doesn't work that way. Sprint is cheaper for a reason. They can't have the best tech but they can help facilitate the refinement of what they have. This is where they are going to try to make up the monetary dif. this year.
Customer support and then in 2010 they'll laydown the tech with 4g and mifi. This is why I amstaying with the Hero. What's a few months? Everyone has already stated that speed comes with 1.6. with most rooting and such coming from xda and htc people, I'll be able to overclock it a bit till the DRAGOn comes with mifi and then rub it in verizons nose later.
Try that on the Samsung Moment. I doubt it will get 2.0 til Q2 next year from what I hear. and I don't think the HTC community is going to be overly triing to root it for the HTC defectors. Hold straight and I bet b4 years end you'll be smiling. sorry for the long post.
You really missed the mark. Yes, Sprint is not in great shape
financially but Dan Hesse is doing everything he can to turn Sprint around.
I dont believe they did rush the Hero. Very much the opposite of what you believe. Sprint has been on board with Google and the Open Handset Alliance for over a year. They didnt rush into the Hero, they didnt rush into Android.
Sprint has also already told everyone NOT to expect an OS update until 2010. Again, not rushing anything here, not even if they wanted to for the Hero. Heres why. HTC is the one that will have to retweak Sense UI, not Sprint. So when HTC is finished doing what they need to do, they will drop 2.0. Not only for the Sprint (CDMA) version, but also for the GSM (Euro) Hero as well. They abandoned any 1.6 updates they were working on because 2.0 came hot on the heels of 1.6.
Im not even sure what you are implying here. Sprint is cheaper for a reason? My guess would be to bring back customers they lost over the years. Im pretty sure they could afford to buy quality phones. Thats not where they are making up the difference. Let me assure you of that.
Good luck with your 4G. Roll out of 4g is well underway, its a shame Sprint doesnt have the money to back the roll out and that Clearwire has to fit the bill for that. Oh, wait, Sprint owns 51% of Clearwire. Roll out of WiMax continues. Chicago will be up and running shortly. Now if they can only sport a battery that will be strong enough to power a 4G handset without the need to charge it every 3 hours. I havent heard anything about where the Dragon will land. Do you know something I dont?
The Samsung Moment wont get 2.0 until Q2? Interesting. Again, where did you say you were getting your information? You do realize that the Moment runs a stock Android system and the Hero has Sense on it right? Its actually a whole lot more likely that the Moment will get 2.0 long before the Hero does due to that reason. I'm tempted to believe that Google is holding off on the drop of 2.0 for the Droid. Once the Droid is launched, it shouldnt be long before 2.0 is released to the wild. Worst case, I could see Sprint holding off both updates and dropping them at the same time, just to keep the complaining to a minimum. Otherwise, I'd say the Moment would be first to get 2.0
