[Edge Max] For those on Unlimited Data thru Verizon

Yup, was kinda just messing around with it to see what options they were actually going to offer online. It gave me the option to keep my current plan, so I selected it. Then it went to the EDGE payment plan agreement, so I electronically signed that. Got to the payment screen and it said 61.22 owed today (25.22 for first installment + 36 for tax on total price of phone) so I put in my CC # and paid it. Then I got an email and text telling me to log into MYverizon to agree to the EDGE plan again. Did that. Got the text yes to agree to order text. Sent that. Got another email confirming everything I just did (the pic in my previous post was copied from that last email) So it looks like everything is finalized. I even went back to MYVerizon and clicked on the button to upgrade my phone and it sent back an error saying that I already have a new device waiting to be activated on that line so I cannot upgrade until that device is activated. I think I might be okay at least until I go to trade in the One in a year. We shall see if anyone catches it and forces me out.

Are you sure you were about 5 months out or were you 4 months from the end of your contract that still had an early upgrade? You must have been eligible for an upgrade. I just tried it and my only options were full retail or to choose a share everything plan.

I am currently on a single line unlimited data account. My upgrade date isn't until July 2014 since they apparently killed early upgrade at the same time the were killing unlimited data...

MyVerizon shows an upgrade date of 2/25/2014

Phone shipped and should be here Tuesday...damn holiday on Monday

Somewhat of an update, there is a thread on XDA here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2423121

Others have taken advantage of the "glitch" with mixed results. No one had a final answer yet as they are all still dealing with CSRs and trying to get their phones activated. Apparently the activation issue is across the board for all EDGE people, not just the glitches. My phone will be delivered tuesday, but of course requires a signature, so Im not sure when Ill actually get my hands on it. Ill post here again once I figure it out.

I have a question regarding Max. Should I change my unlimited to 6GB, am I required to purchase phones on the payment plan or am I still eligible for 2 year contracts and subsidized phones?

Max is only an option for Edge customers. You could only change to it, if you wanted to enter the Edge program. Otherwise you could do the two year service agreement, but you'd be subject to the Share Everything rates, which would be much higher.

I know many people are pointing out that Edge sucks because you still pay for subsidized plans, so Verizon is in a way making more money off of you. Yes, they are making money off of us. However, buying a phone at full retail does mean you get to pay a different monthly access fee. Your plan, and what you pay for your plan -be it Share Everything, Nationwide+Unlimited, Max, etc.- stays the same. So if you buy at retail, you still pay for a plan that includes a subsidy. No matter what, you are losing, and you are paying more.

It's really a matter of do you pay upfront and keep unlimited, or do you pay over time and keep unlimited/switch to Max at 6GB? If you don't plan on leaving Verizon, and you're prepared to pay the full cost of the phone, I'd say do the Edge, and then pay the entire cost of the phone so you get to keep it. This just means you didn't pay the entire fee up front. Granted, if you don't mind giving up your unlimited for 6GB, which for most people should work fine.

I was just reading over the Edge rules again since this thread/topic has revved up today. I know I knew about this little tid-bit but forgot. You have to currently be under contract to be eligible, which I'm not. Just tossing it out there, it may come in handy for some.

From Verizon's site: you must have a service agreement at the time you enter your 24-month Verizon Edge Agreement.

Arguably, if you buy out the phone and end your Edge Agreement (assuming by then your contract has expired) you wouldn't be able to renew the Edge Agreement unless you signed a service agreement. Shady.

First I've heard of this.

Wow, what a crock... I just went onto their site and put in a "theoretical" upgrade to my current plan (I'm currently "elligible" for a new-every-two). My current plan is 450 minutes of talk, unlimited text, unlimited data. They want me to upgrade to an unlimited talk and text, 2Gb of data plan - for $10/month more than I'm paying now!

In 13 years of having a cell phone I've never gone over 200 minutes of talk time (considering most of my calls are in-network)... In my mind, their upgrade options are CRAP. Unless a new phone comes out that can cook my dinner, make my bed, and change a tire, I'm staying put with what I have.

In other news, now that Verizon is $130billion in the red, I know that some people think this'll force them to be more competitive with other carriers, but I see the end of unlimited data coming at us pretty quick...

If the Nexus 5 were available on Verizon and if the pricing were anywhere near that of the Nexus 4 at release, then Edge would make a whole lot of sense to me.

I know that no one can truly answer this question, but let's just play some what-if, please.

My contract end date is 5/10/14. It used to be 1/10/14... but we all know what happened there.

How likely do you think it is that I will be able to continue sitting on my unlimited plan after my contract expires and I'm month to month and just purchase a new phone outright when I want one. Do you think it's possible they would force me to re-sign to a tiered plan?

Thanks

I would guess until at least next summer. I say that because the last round of the unlimited plans will be out of contract in July. My question is will they have a decent plan available like this Edge Max at that time. I could live with 6GB of data and more frequent upgrades, but I'm locked in until next July.

If they were really serious about getting people out of unlimited plans, they would open up the current offer to anyone that's been in the contract for more then 12 months...

if they were truely serious they would open up the larger pool to anyone willing to lose their unlimited..... take me for instance

Ive been off contract for months......I usually keep 1 phone the full 2 years(well 20 months til now).... not interested in leasing a phone that I will never own (and not gonna pay full price over 2 years for a phone that I can get subsidized)..... but I would probably give up the unlimited in exchange for 6Gb.... as it is.... for me to upgrade I would go into the 2Gb pile.... no way Im giving up unlimited for 2Gb

Anybody catch the email today that offers Verizon Max ($30 for 6GB) and an upgrade?

It makes no mention of the Edge program in this one.

I think I'm just going to hold out with 450/unlimited plan ($89 after 20% corporate discount) and possibly ditch big red when they jack my unlimited data. I would assume we're only going to be using more and more data as time goes by.

This statement just begs to be picked apart.
McAdam touted his network superiority over his rivals, noting that his LTE deployment is about a year ahead of its main rival (AT&T), and three to four years ahead of its smaller competitors (T-Mobile and Sprint).

While a select few need it, not everyone is a traveling nomad or business executive. Therefore, if T-Mobile or Sprint has LTE in your area and good enough coverage for your usage, then Verizon looks like worst choice out of all the carriers. They essentially price themselves out of that market. The only thing they have going for them is that there's a social stigma that using a smaller carrier is unreliable or means that you're too poor to afford a real carrier. When in fact, I think it's a reverse stigma that in an area where all 4 carriers are good, they're too ignorant to avoid overpaying for service.

Verizon claims that their LTE network is finished. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the goal to upgrade any area with 3G coverage to LTE coverage? If that's the case, then they've failed that initiative because where my parents live defies that notion.

Nope. Can you do a screen capture?

Never mind. Max is part of Edge.

I got this email on Monday and called right away. The CSR I talked to said that this was NOT linked to EDGE. I confirmed by asking the total pricing for me to use it to upgrade the line to a G2. She confirmed it would be $199.99+$30 activation+tax.

I decided not to do it because I have a family plan with 5 lines of unlimited and doing this would still leave the other 4 in limbo if they force me off unlimited. Seems to me if they REALLY wanted people like me off unlimited that they would let you apply the MAX to all lines. I would do it in a heartbeat if I could get 6GB/per line for all 5.

This is exactly where I'm at trying to decide, $89 (RedZone & insurance) w/20% corporate discount. I would like to upgrade, but don't want to give up unlimited data and thinking that when they eventually rip it from my hands I will just leave.

It's too expensive, but when your job territory is WA, AK, ID, OR, & UT nothing else comes close in coverage.

I'm hoping the Note 3 will be on sale towards xmas time and this will still apply...

For anyone that wants to keep unlimited data, you can use Verizon's Device Payment Plan. Cost of phone is spread out over 12 months. THIS IS NOT EDGE. I did it yesterday and got the G2 and I still have unlimited. I completely forgot about that option until it popped in my head yesterday morning.

So you're spreading full price payments over 12 months vs. 24 months with edge, correct? Any fees or interest added or is it a straight 0% for 12 months?

OT: How do you like the G2 and what did you replace with it?
