EOL/ Replacement Phone

Well its been almost a week (Wednesday) and they still haven't gave me the option to switch to the Victory LTE. After one plum colored 3VO V that I rather not have (personal preference) then also receiving a Kyrocera Rise POS on Monday, April 29. They have created an escalation ticket about getting a black 3VO V but thats not happening due to more than likely HTC is not manufacturing this phone anymore and is EOL. I have asked 2 or 3 times about getting a Victory LTE but there tech support told me their system isn't allowed to order a different phone as a replacement, but yet some how I received a POS Kyrocera Rise. VM customer service is suppose to call tomorrow (won't hold my breath) too see what my options are to resolve the issue...

Damn, if my EVO V died, I'd have to make a decision. Go with plum, or have Best Buy's black tie protection give me my $150 back. Since I can't take my $150 and buy a comperable phone...that would leave me with quite a decision to make.

I'd probably go with Plum, or the Victory if offered...unless they come out with another option soon. Luckily, my phone is still working :D (fingers crossed)

I think that the plum model is actually pretty cool, the speaker grill is silver, it gives the device a little bit of color. :p

Funny that even after you asked, they didn't offer you the Victory. After emailing yesterday and being told the Evo is out of stock, I called today to confirm whether I'd be getting a replacement sent, and they volunteered to send me a Victory instead. Other than an accidental transfer to the Assurance Wireless line, it was one of the more painless calls I've made to Virgin Mobile.

Since I'll never see WiMax where I live, but LTE is already on my doorstep, I took the offer of the Victory. Plus, I didn't feel like waiting indefinitely for the promise of another Evo while mine continues to go through system crashes/abnormal resets.

It's a shame that the Evo did go EOL so abruptly, though - I really do like this phone. But at least now there will be one phone (black, VM branding) coming back to refurb that can be sent out to one of you who is still waiting! ;)

I'm curious to see your LTE speeds when you get it

I guess my concern is all the EVO V's being sent out as replacements will be returns/refurbs. Already some people have been getting defective replacements. How well can we trust VM to properly test/refurbish these phones before sending them out??? I have not had good luck with VM customer service...

I completely agree. I have already frown to like then color and it's not really a plum. It's more of a really dark purple that's actually quite subtle. But I have a blue trident aegis case on it sooooo yeah.

Well considering how they are forcing us into the samsung victory.. are there any roms for it? I couldn't find any anywhere...

That's hogwash if you ask me. They're down to 1 Wimax phone at this point, and that's the GS2...which is still the most expensive Android VM phone out there. WTF!?!?!

There's no LTE in Charlotte yet for Sprint, so forcing me to the Victory is really going to piss me off. I've heard that by August, we should have LTE...fingers crossed.

EDIT:

May marked the month where my switch from Sprint to VM was paid for. I've saved over $50/mo in switching, and now that I'm getting top ups on eBay, I'm saving even more than I had imagined.

I'll probably be with VM for quite a bit longer as I can't imagine paying less for Android service anywhere else, and my top up balance is like $280. Every time I run the numbers, VM always wins. I sure wouldn't mind dropping some of that balance on a sweet GS3...come on Sprint, release the GS3 to VM already.

Well if they continue this I might file a complaint to the better business bureau.. I'm tired of VM's ways. forcing us to this and that while not informing us. This is bad business and they need to be called out on it.

Student at UNCC here... I've heard there are SMALL spots of LTE around uptown, but that's about it. WiMax is strong in University area, but so is 3G really.

And I agree, the pricing is hard to beat. I've gotten 55 bucks out of VM from 4 calls in the last month and a half. Their customer service isn't very intelligent, but they do a lot to keep customers around, IMO.

Which begs the question, how long can a company survive by providing "free" services to retain subscribers?

On their own, not very long. With Sprint, quite a while, I'd say.

I doubt that SoftBank's 20 Billion dollars investment is intended to prop up financially unsound divisions. Virgin has to learn quickly that the prepaid landscape is vastly different and much more varied than it was even 2 years ago.

With VM limiting customers to Sprint's network, their costs are well maintained. There's upgrade costs, and there's maintenance costs, but there's no roaming fees to be paid to Verizon...at least with VM usage. Boost is the same way...no roaming.

I figure, if it's their network that they own, and it's already built...having customers that you may not have otherwise is a good thing. I bet VM + Boost and all their MVNO revenue at least pays for maintaining the network...and Sprint revenue pays for the upgrades and roaming.

Of course I am talking out of my ass. I have no idea how much any of that crap costs :p

But if I had a built out netowork of voice and data (3G + Wimax) giving really low rates to use that network can't hurt too badly. It sorta like an empty hotel...as long as you're covering the cost of housekeeping to turn that room over the next day...renting that room out for a few dollars profit is still a good business decision...assuming you own the hotel and aren't paying outrageous mortgage rates...but let's say you were...factor the mortgage rate into the cost to turn the room over for a day, and rent the room for a few dollars over that amount.

A filled room with $5 profit is better than an empty room that you have to pay a mortgage on ;)

I'm putting you in charge of the hotel I'm opening next week ;)

Hotels actually have a calculation that they do which tells them the cost to rent the room for 1 night. I'm not sure if the mortgage is factored into this...as that has to be paid whether or not the room is occupied...but if occupied...there's a cost to resetting the room.

I'm pretty sure the airlines have similar calculations. Once the plane leaves...each empty seat is lost revenue. They just need to calculate the extra fuel used for that one passenger...as well as any ameneties that person may consume...and everything after that is profit that wouldn't have been realized had that person not been there. The calculations have to account for all overhead...but keep in mind, an empty seat is still counting against your overall overhead.

looks like VM got a hold of some evo v's because I got a brand new one that is black...

Just a little update after receiving a plum color 3VO two weeks ago and then a pos Kyrocera Rise a few days later and having to send them back, numerous calls to VM customer service for about 2 weeks...FedEx showed up today with not 1 or 2 or 3 or even 4 packages BUT 5 packages all being black 3VOs. 4 of them were VM branded and one brand new in the retail packaging so I took the brand new black 3VO in the retail box. Gotta love VM :)
