Epic Battery Life Quadrupled after 2.21 update

I don't know if this is just me, but after I did the 2.21 update on Monday my battery life skyrocketed. I was previously on the Dk28 Leak and that was okay, but i am unplugged for 10 hours now and I'm at 73% battery. I have email (K9mail) going as well as launcher pro, tweetdeck, as well as a live wallpaper, beautiful widgets and a few other apps. This is insane considering I was barely going 8 hours without having to charge my Epic.

Completely agree. I'm getting significantly better battery performance now that I'm on EB13. For example, my wife and I just spent 2 hours at our grocery store (which is a huge dead zone) and I forgot to turn off the wifi and GPS (as well as the fact that phone was roaming--unsuccessfully--the whole time) and my battery was still at 80% when I came outside. Absolutely floored by the increased battery life...never had anything close on DK28 or DI18.

I'm unfortunately having the opposite effect. My battery used to last me through an entire 9 hour day and still have 70% battery left.

I just got the update this morning, and since then my battery has been dropping like crazy. I'm only at 6 hours and only have 43% left.

Anyone else having this problem?

If you weren't at a full battery when you upgraded this could have caused this issue. Try recalibrating the battery again. I fully charged mine as soon as the update hit and deleted battery stats to start fresh. I had to plug it in this morning after just over 19 hours of usage. It is definitely better battery life. I am testing one of the new kernels now which runs higher at 1.2 but still getting good battery life. EB13 was definitely an improvement.

How do I delete battery stats?

One thing I noticed that used to affect battery life is that whole "time without signal" issue. After the ota update this morning I still had to toggle on and off airplane mode to stop the phone from looking for a gsm signal. The phone showed a tws of about 50%. I did the old airplane mode toggle and I'm down to 8% tws.

Is anyone else noticing this? I'm pissed that this wasn't fixed.

I use Root explorer and go to data>system>batterystats.bin and delete. I believe you can adb into it as well.

I would have to root my phone correct? If so, what it the best method. I haven't rooted an epic yet, I did my moment, and I had already purchased root explorer back then, so I can install on this phone too.

Its still there, wasn't fixed. From what I read it happens to many different CDMA phones by Samsung. It keeps looking for GSM signal.

Not me, mine seems to be a bit worse now than with 2.1, but it could be some of the apps I use just don't manage memory as well on Froyo compared to Eclaire

Yup, battery life seems better here too.

Couple that with the big ass Seidio battery that I use, and this thing is great! 8:00pm, and my phone finally dropped one notch from full (took it off the charger at ~7:30am).

no change with 2.2. it's been amazing since an update a couple months ago though.

My first full charge went 1 day and 16 hours! With moderate use, took off of charger yesterday morning and just died a couple of minutes ago...was trying to figure out how to get screenshot on the web when it died. I used the web, texted, about an hour of talking, messed with settings, and listened to music. I usually get about 18 hours on a charge with a little less use.

Did you guys factory reset before installing 2.2? (Those of you getting good battery life).

yeah it wiped everything, only issue i'm having is reinstalling certain apps that are protected. even the well known laggy video camera issue seems to have bypassed me.

I manually updated mine Monday and all I did was export contacts to sd and saved my pictures and videos onto my comp harddrive just in case. Didn't end up needing either. Kind of stupid though my batt had just died before I updated but I was to anxious to charge it and did the update after maybe ten minutes of charging. It was connected to the cable through pretty much the whole update so it really shouldn't have mattered.
