Epic Battery Life Quadrupled after 2.21 update

Ok thanks. I rooted and I'm going to give it a try. Just waiting for my phone to charge to 100%. I know I was at like 40% when I installed the update via the zip method.

Yes. I got caught up in a bad commuting situation this morning (some of y'all probably saw the Lincoln Tunnel accident on the news this AM...) and my fully charged phone died within 3 hours- this was with moderate use- a couple of calls, a few minutes of email and 5 texts. It was pretty much a nightmare watching my phone die during an actual emergency. I'm really unhappy.
 
Also another one with improved battery life. It helps a lot for me while on my ship, we have signal issues anywhere but outside and even then it isn't that great on the pier.

Will see how it does this weekend when i have signal 100% of the time.

I observed the same thing for the first couple of charges after updating to 2.2. However I think it has more to do with calibration monitoring software. Now that I've charge-cycled my phone a few times, it's back to where it was with 2.1.

Did you let your Epic continue to drain down after 10 hours? Maybe it would've gone down to 60% and then just died?
 
I did the update.zip upgrade, it did not hard reset my phone -- left my applications installed, left settings as is, etc.

After the update, I was getting really bad battery life and the phone seemed to be running hot. Earlier tonight I did a hard reset and I already can tell a difference, not running as hot, been about 4 hours and battery level has barely decreased. Hoping it is good now.

One note, after doing the hard-reset I answer no to the do you want Google to use location services, under running apps the network location services process is no longer running (e.g. was running prior to hard reset). If battery usage still looks good tomorrow, I might enable location services, see if that was the issue, but at this point thinking the hard reset was the fix for me.
 
I'm also getting much better battery life. I went the update.zip route on monday and haven't had any issues. It has to be at least double and i use pandora a lot.

yep, me too. trying to figure out what program(s) are doing this. it is annoying as f-ck
 
I noticed the time without signal bug is still alive a well. I just checked my battery stats, and time without signal was at 50%. Guess I'll still need to do the airplane mode trick every time I boot the phone up.

Is anyone else experiencing this with 2.2.1?
 
Yes I'm still having to toggle on and off airplane mode in order to stop this phone from constantly searching for a gsm signal and having a tws of at least 50%. My battery life isn't noticeably better since the update.
 
I was going to complain that my battery life is just as crappy as with 2.1 until I looked on my battery stats...
97% display
1% wi-fi
Nothing else listed. That's just odd.
Just for a test, I turned my brightness to 50% on the slider.

Mine had the same behavior after update, cleared cache and did a hard-reset fixed the problem --hardly any battery lose after a days use. Note, you will have to reinstall apps and reconfigure any settings after a hard-reset.
 
Is doing a factory reset on you phone the same thing as a hard reset???? If i do a factory reset will it knock out the zip file for froyo?? And make me reinstall froyo???

Not quite sure, I kind of wondered the same thing. I ended up going all the way --shutdown the phone, death grip to turn on (e.g. press all buttons --volume up/down, power, and camera), then selected "wipe cache partition" (use volume up/down to move cursor, press home button to select), then selected "wipe data/factory rest". That wiped all my settings (e.g. gmail settings, exchange settings, ..) and I had to reinstall my applications. Did not reverse my 2.2.1 update but, fixed my battery issues, felt like a brand new phone.
 
After the update, I noticed that my battery life was horrible. I thought it would correct itself after a few days, however it never did. Then I decided there must be something that I can do to stop this crazy battery drain. I went to menu>settings>applications>running applications. Once here, I found tons of programs running that I thought were shut down. I preceeded to shut down the ones that I could recognize by tapping on the program (highlighted in black) and then pressing stop. THIS WORKED!!! Now my battery lasts almost all day without needing a charge.
 
I wish I could do a screen print. Just looked at my wife's Epic.

2.2 via OTA - works great except for video.
36% left after 1 day, 14 hrs. 13 min. since being unplugged.
Display 46 min
Voice calls 43 minutes
TWS 3%
Cell Standby 25%
Phone idle 12%

I was amazed.
 
I am also experiencing much improved battery life. I upgraded manually and performed hard reset. My battery was not lasting to 2pm on eclair. I've gone al day and still have 50% with heavy use.
 
yea I noticed the same thing

I was using DK28 and it was OK battery life, better then 2.1 was thats for sure

then this update I flashed the whole phone fresh and it was unpluged at 4:50 pm EST - I have 71% battery life - display (72%) was on for 42m46s - voice calls (14%) 17m41s - cell standby (9%), time on 11h19m28s - TWS 2% - phone idle (4%) 10h36m42s

I dont have any numbers from before but there is 1 thing for sure and thats that at this point my phone would be around 15% and need to be charged for sure - yea I was only talking for 17m41s but still I was texting a lot and the display was on the whole time


I will start to keep a log of these numbers and see what happens - I suggest that others also do this and post them online

maybe someone make a thread about it if you want to

I didnt know that

but I am having really improved battery life over DK28 which was Froyo 2.2 but now with the 2.2 thats out now its about 20% better

from 2.1 to 2.2 DK28 it was like 200% better
