Help Epic Bug List

I'm 9 days into my Epic, and I've done a lot of Internet information gathering trying to get to know this phone. I really love it! I don't have a lot of the issues mentioned in this thread or elsewhere on this site or others. The problem is, I've had enough glitches that I'm trying to determine if I need to exchange for a new one. I understand it's all very technologically advanced and that it won't be perfect--so the question is, can I live with what I've already encountered? Are any of these issues serious enough to warrant an exchange? Help?

1. Day after I got it, it charged all night, would not power on next morning (I never did power it off.) Had to remove battery to resolve. (I had to remove the battery quite often on my Treo.) Hasn't happened again.

2. Feeds and Updates Widget kept logging me out of FB and Twitter. Finally trashed it. Can live without it.

3. On Day 5 Sync wasn't working at all with FB & Twitter (Accounts and Sync in Settings.) Also kept logging me out of both. Seems to have resolved now, but I don't quite trust it. Did it again for FB yesterday, day 7. Found that if I powered phone off and then back on it seems to resolve the sync issue. Except for today when I powered phone off than on to fix email (see item #6 below) and was logged out of FB again!

4. Also on Day 5, plugged in phone to charge. Would not charge. Didn't recognize the connection at all. Tried AC and USB variations. Nothing. Battery removed, resolved. Been okay ever since.

5. Have not been able to update PRL or Profile. (Oh wait! It just did PRL as I was typing this. First time in 6 attempts.) However Profile still no luck. Each time I get the message: Error: Your profile could not be updated at this time. Please try again later. If this problem persists, please contact customer care. Error: No service error. Not sure what the PRL or Profile is, but according to my Internet research this is a widespread problem. But is it serious?

6. Had problems at least twice with the email (Pop3 accounts) not pulling in received emails from the server. The first time, it pulled in just one of the five that were on the server. Today, it would not pull in any. I powered the phone off, back on again and magically it resolved. I need to know for sure that I can get 100% of my email on this phone. However, after I got my email downloaded, it said that I was logged out of FB again!

7. Yesterday hit the button to activate screen. It activated, but only with the background, no home menu or swipe arrow to unlock. Nothing I did would change it, turned the screen on and off a couple of times with the side button but it remained frozen. Finally popped out keyboard, and the unlock arrow and everything else immediately showed. Huh?

8. The speakerphone sucks! But the sound in the headphones is pretty good. I suppose I can live without a speakerphone.

Other than that it's been pretty good. My concern is that if I ignore these issues it will be a harbinger of worse or ongoing things to come. Better to exchange now than wait until Day 29 and have to set up phone to my liking all over again. I would really appreciate any suggestions as to the best course of action under these circumstances! Thanks!

I have an appointment every other week but the native calender app has no way to schedule it as a repeating event. That is a problem. Any workarounds?

hey y'all! how is it??? My girlfriend got the Epic but she is having weak reception on the same carrier as her old phone? any body else had the same problem? ",:-{D

Thanks Droko G

Hopefully someone will have a little better knowledge on this than me... Since I just had my epic switched out for a new one and the SAME PROBLEM I WAS HAVING, I'M STILL HAVING. Obviously I'm the only person in the world who's apps keep disappearing any time the phone loses power or is turned off... Is it possible a bad battery could be responsible? Or did I manage to get two phones with the exact same problem? This s**t is growing rather tiresome!

One bug thats bugging me (:)) is I can't use the 3.5mm jack for playing music in the car and also use bluetooth for calls at the same time. When a call comes in I have to unplug the 3.5 cable or I can't hear the caller.

My major bug is that I am unable to use the Epic via bluetooth in my 08 Acura TL (Hands-Free Link). Just switched to Epic from Pre, and though I like the phone, I am majorly bummed that it won't work in my car - I live in Cali and hands-free is required. The Pre worked perfectly (except for being able to transfer phonebook entries from device to car - but phone operation was flawless).

I can get the Epic to pair, but then it falls off to "paired, but not connected" repeatedly, and the car then reports no phone is found. Going back into visibility mode for the 90 seconds and then reconnecting works - but only temporarily as the cycle then repeats...

Looking around, it does seem there are many BT connection issues going on with the Epic. I'm hoping 2.2 will help...? Any other suggestions appreciated.

The phone ties to the Google calendar on your gmail account. You can set the bi-weekly up on the web and it'll sync to your phone's calendar.

I don't know why the native calendar app doesn't have the additional scheduling options that the web version does, but I'm 99% certain that's an Android limitation and not the phone's. Checking the Google Code database shows this is a tracking issue (Issue #9110), but it's not assigned yet. I'd suggest adding your star to that issue in the hopes it gets a higher priority.

I'm haivng an issue with the bluetooth feature. if I want to dial out from the bluetooth (hands free) I have to actually dial from the epic it won't voice dial from the bluetooth. The bluetooth has the capabilities b/c it asks for a command but then the phone does nothing... is it the epic itself or what?

I haven't heard of anyone else having that problem. I would be very concerned about that, and would call CS, or take it in to a Sprint store to have it looked at.

Ok, so I finally took my Epic in because of the app problem and after two exchanges, finally realized that apparently it's my gmail account causing the problem. I had to create a new account to be able to turn my phone off without losing the apps on the home screen. But this does present a new issue. I now have to use another account that doesn't have the apps I paid for associated with it. It's a little weird that an android phone would have a problem with a GOOGLE MAIL account. Gotta love it...........

Here are a couple for you..Any help is appreciated!

My friend has same phone I do Epic 4g in Cali. Her airplane mode will not turn off. removed battery. used settings to try to turn it off that way and nothing works...

Mine.. for whatever reason i can not download anything from the Market.. are there settings that i might have changed not realizing that it would result in this issue. for example I can not download updates on the apps i have downloaded nor download anything new. resetting has not worked. taking battery out has not worked...thoughts?

Twice, now, I've hit an issue where the entire phone will lock up. All the capacitive buttons will light, but no button -- including power -- is responsive. I've had to pull out the battery, and reinsert. :(

Didn't have this issue for the first week of ownership. I have 390MB free on internal storage....

I have this exact issue as well. It is not as prevalent since the 2.2 update, but it still happens. Before the update it would happen at least once a day, if not more. Now it is cut down to maybe once every few days.

My biggest issue is with the exchange email. It works fine to make a new email, and read emails, but you can't reply or forward without your email getting all screwed up with
everywhere. It eliminates any line space and puts a

there. It makes the emails almost unreadable and looks super unprofessional. I did some research and there seems to be no real fix. You can delete the rest of the email so it only has what you type, or you need to use a different email client.

I've also had a bunch of memory card issues. I've lost everything 4 times now. It fried 3 SD cards where they could not be formatted on the phone or computer. I lucked out and didn't have to spend another $40 buying a new card because it formatted this time. I loose about 20% of my pictures over about a month due to file corruption. (but I back up weekly because I can't trust it) My directories get messed up, renamed with computer symbols mixed in. Files get renamed with computer symbols and then they dont work. I had to switch to google docs from open office because my excel files wouldn't last a week before getting corrupted. This is my second phone that has fried memory cards after my first was replaced by sprint for the same reason. My usb mass storage is real spotty and disconnects and reconnects many times on its own (on different computers).

One more thing I forgot about until yesterday. Sometimes I will make a call and the phone won't ring, but it still calls the person. When I talk, my voice echos back to me. At this point I know that the other person can hear me but I can't hear them. I have to turn the phone off and on before it will work again. Its happened at least 15 times.

I'm surprised this phone was ever released to the public! Here are just some of the recurring problems I'm having (and this is my second phone):
1. Freeze-up, randomly, but at least once a day and often more, requiring pulling the battery. Sometimes the screen is lit, othertimes the screen has shut down and then the phone simply will not respond.
2. Bluetooth failure: phone will not keep a Bluetooth connection, and when it starts up, it doesn't remember that it even has a Bluetooth paired with it.
3. Media scanner takes an hour or more to do whatever it is doing with the SD card. I have only 10 small MP3 files on it, no pics or movies.
4. Will not connect with any of my PCs: a Dell desktop and two Dell laptops, all running Windows 7, and one manufactured this year. The PC "sees" the phone and assigns a drive letter, but won't mount the card. Instead, it ask me to insert a disk in the drive.
5. The ringtone MP3 files I have on the SD are not available in the list of ringtones on the phone.

That's enough for now. I've tried every known fix for the PC connection, all those listed here by various helpful people, but none of them have worked.

I'm sorry I bought this PoS!

My phone since the last 2 updates does a random reboot. It used to be at around 30 % or so in a call it would turn off now with the latest it has moved to 50% range and it will just shut off in the middle of a call. Very annoying.

Rooting soon.
