Eris 2.1 leak Bug's and Fixes

It has been addressed, in fact you could read about 5 posts before yours!! ;) Personally I could care less about the bars and my theory is its showing the EVDO (or 3g) strength, actually I like it better because if your phone has 3g on it you'll have voice....vzw typically does data on the pcs band so its going to be "weaker" than their cellular voice band. This is only my theory...and I've been drinking...but i tested it I swear! Read a few posts previous for the fix, I'll make you read my diatribe but ya gotta look for your answer ;)

This has been the one thing that has really bothered me and I have been reading a bunch of things to try to figure out what the deal is. I could possibly believe that you are right about it measuring the EVDO strength. Regardless, it certainly doesn't seem to be reading the voice signal.

I was reading a lot about decibels today to try to figure out how decibel levels correspond with signal strength levels. It seems that, in general, a decibel reading of -105 or less (i.e. -109) would mean you have no bars, no service. -70 or -80 and greater means that you have a pretty good signal, usually all four bars.

I drive all day for work so today I kept up the network settings screen that shows the decibel level. I checked it against the signal strength level and they rarely matched up. All through the day my decibel levels were pretty good, sometimes fantastic. There were only a few places that the decibel level went below -90 and they were definitely low signal areas. Of course, even in areas that the decibel level was as high as -45 (there had to be a tower extremely close though i didn't notice it), I still only had 2, maybe 3 bars.

Anyway, I'm not too worried about it anymore. It's really annoying but it doesn't seem to be causing any real problems. One thing that I thought of today though is that I would LOVE to see a widget that reports the decibel reading in real time. I think I would even prefer this to signal strength bars. I looked but couldn't find one. Oh well.

If anyone wants to check their decibel levels and doesn't know where to find it, it's in Settings > About Phone > Network

With regard to the bars and battery issue, it seems to me that my battery has been fairly consistent with the way it was before I updated. I am not sure why it says "time without signal 50%" but it seems like my phone is always connected. As for the bars, it looks like I have none in the display, but If I look in the the signal strength under both debug mode and the "network" heading in "about phone" i always have around -80 dBm which is consistent with about three bars. And as soon as i make a call the display jumps to three bars until i hang up. So my theory is that it is really at three bars all the time, but just doesn't show it for some reason.

In case nobody's interested; The silent ring..the no one is there thing happened again, (every day since the download) this time without any apps on other than those that came with the download-PB00IMG.zip file, so I am confident the problem is with the test version and not necessarily with the apps we are putting on. I received a missed call, I swiped my finger on the bar downward, pushed the person's number from that icon and tried to call; nothing....They tried to call back...nothing..silent. I powered off and back on and everything was OK. Just wanted to report this to whomever cares..(nobody) Boofrackinhooooo........8-)

Handcent and Chomp are simply "front ends" to the built-in "Messaging" application. I don't think that issues like sending (or receiving) are the fault of 3rd-party SMS apps. In fact, I've had failed deliveries when using the built-in SMS app. Well, let me rephrase that: It says it failed but the message does actually go through.

My pinch to leap stopped working consistently. I can still press the home button to bring up all 7 screens but i cant pinch then up. I restarted the phone and it seemed to help, but then it stopped working again. I think its from using the trackball to scroll through the screens that messes it up. Anyone else having this problem.

Would anyone know if it is possible to put your phone to sleep with 2.1? I used to be able to tap the end call button from a setting in spare parts. I want to set my screen time out to never and manual take care of it.

If all my contacts are synced though Google and none from the phone will I have to back up my contacts before doing the update?

Agreed.

Handcent shouldn't be handling the sending/receiving, at all.

Go into Handcent settings, and make sure that handcent itself is NOT set to automatically download messages, or do anything related to sending or connecting to any messaging service.

It's not supposed to try.

Messages is. If you can send a message in Messages, I promise, you can use Handcent.

My gf, on Cricket no less, is using Handcent on her (poor version of) 2.1.

Should work without a problem.

Pressing the physical "end call" button will put it to sleep.

E36?
HMM maybe theres a glitch with my phone. I can tap actual button all day long. Worked with 1.5. Also went back to spare parts and set end call behavior to sleep and still nothing? Has anyone else had this problem?

BTW E46!

Also how can I get swype back on my phone. I tried the same steps for 1.5 with no luck.

Any one having issues with handcent when try to type "I'M" it freezes my phone and I have to turn it off and back on... Any help on this would be great...

"If all my contacts are synced though Google and none from the phone will I have to back up my contacts before doing the update?"

I just made sure I did a manual sync of my google contacts through settings before hand. settings - data sync - google - then you should have three options for calendar, contacts, and email (if I remember correctly.) sync contacts.

go to the market search for htc and thay got 4 new widgets battery, dice, ppl in history, and tip calculator. seems the get more widgets thing don't work but i think this works the same way but threw the market.

Actually I had alot of problems with Handcent on 2.1 as well as a few other people....

I switched to Chomp....not having those problems anymore, not sure why as I always used Handcent before

Alright, lately I'm having a hard time finding relevant information on this board.

I've now had 2.1 since it first dropped. I love how fast my phone is, ect. I'm pretty much just ignoring the fact that my facebook will not sync with my contacts, but it's something I'd like eventually. I figured the OTA was coming soon, but apparently it's farer off than we'd like.

Has anyone figured out how to get the contacts to sync? Do i really have to reset my phone again? The only reason I don't want to is I don't want to re-do all my anycut shortcuts :P

thanks guys, sorry if i missed this answer

Your phone is telling you to stop talking about yourself!:p

Really though, handcent apparently isn't playing nice with 2.1. I haven't heard about your problem, so can't suggest a work-around. Possibly try chomp, or try leaving the apostrophe out and see if that helps.

I think someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed... :)

I'm pretty on top of this forum and am a little confused as well... Is the "other" leak the one Caddy posted? Or is there another?

All of these threads are getting very long, very fast! Can't find the post from Caddy...anybody have Caddy's link for 2.1? DM would be appreciated lest it be lost in the tide yet again lol. Cheers :)

I was listening to music on my 2.1 using the speaker, then paused it. 10 minutes later, I got a phone call. 10 minutes after that, I tried to play music again. It was playing, but no sound. I had to turn off my phone and turn it back on to get it to work. I got really nervous that I broke my speaker. Figured I'd throw that one out there if wasn't mentioned before.

Step three add a new facebook for htc acct, log in to it, it wont sync yet

Step four log in to the fb app

Step five, go to contact list give it a few mins go about your usual linking to fb
