Eris 2.1 leak Bug's and Fixes

i am on sense W4LLY

for anyone with laggy dialer on 2.1 leak. go to call history app and hit menu and delete all (if that doesnt bother you, i dont need my call history) and see if that speeds up your dialer app.

+ 1. Call history deletion, at least partially, is good for regaining snap in 1.5, too.

yeah i mean, i can deal with lag, it happens, of course....but the lag i get with the dialer makes me want to punch people it gets so bad. sometimes the dialer is unresponsive all together.

so im seeing if that may be the issue. if so, it would be nice to be able to put a limit on call history build up or something either with a small app or preferably something built into the OS.

Yeah thanks Caddy for the call history tip. I did it still running 1.5 and it made my dialer much snappier too. Sweet tip.

Calling from the call history screen can be even worse
I can't tell you how many times I call the same person 2x and have one on hold.
Or the list didn't update fast enough and you call the wrong person.

Love you Caddy.

Still, has anyone else noticed a speed increase of using Home w/ switcher vs Sense?

I don't think that Home is much quicker than Sense...but dialer is more stable and consistent. I too feel like I want to punch someone in the face when I'm trying to make a simple phone call and my phone has a seizure.

I'm trying out Caddyman's suggestion for clearing out the call log and it seems to help, but that's annoying. I'm tempted to buy a cheap pre-paid phone to carry around with me and use THAT as a phone. I'll use the Eris for everything else. haha...

seriously though, i dont think home vs. sense makes any difference, after all, your dialer app is still "sensed" so even running stock home you are using the sense dialer.

i really think the best course of action is to clean your call history periodically.

people with this lag, please do try it out and report back...

I'm having a pretty major problem. In Sense, my homescreen keeps scrolling all the way to the left, and when it gets there I can't make it scroll back to the right.
Anyone else had this issue?

I had a similar issue (track ball would only go right) - needed to replace phone - made new one 2.1 in 1st minute and all is well -

I love the Eris, love 2.1 (no issues) but i have been saying since I got this phone in October - the dialer is a disgrace. I mean the f'ing thing is a cell PHONE and it sometimes can barely make or receive calls.

FYI, clearing the data for the dialer in applications doesn't do anything to help the phone. It actually deletes you gmail log in info. This actually may explain why we have to log in most of the time though. If the dialer is loading after the sign in then the info just wouldn't be there.

Hmm, I wonder if this has something to do with the Gmail log in issue on 2.1, that somehow they're related...

I'm trying the Call Log Trimmer app out too. I set the number of calls to keep to 10 (which is the lowest), and I also checked "Trim per phone number" and selected the Number of calls for that to 1. That would be pretty good if you call the same number often...such as is my case since my Google Voice bridging number is 99% of my calls.

But I'm going to stick with Home for a few days. I just spent half a day setting up all the widgets and icons!

How do you manually sync a contact with Facebook in 2.1? In 1.5 I could just edit contact and find their name on FB. I don't see that anywhere in 2.1.

I have been having serious lag with the phone app/dialer as well. Also having a lot of problems calling using sync in my truck with the eris on 2.1..keeps hanging up when I try to place calls. Also will not recognize everyone on my contact list when it downloads the phoneook.

Love you Caddy.

I think there's a slight increase.

I'm still having two major bugs occurring in Home that I had in Sense. I lose volume control and ringer and all incoming and outgoing sound goes silent. I try setting manually using settings and the volume control has to be FC'd to log out and ringer volume never returns until I restart the phone. That's also tied to hearing people who call in and who I call out--I lose all sound in the earpiece at the same time. Happens about once a day.

And after a recent restart, my custom rings for individuals doesn't work again. Happened before (see previous post confirming another users's issue) but not for awhile. It just happened yesterday while in Home. I thought it might've been a Sense issue, but apparently not.

Other than those two glaring issues, I'd be happy as a clam to keep using this 2.1 beta.

Question for Home Switcher users: When you switch to Sense from Home after using home for awhile, then back to Home again, does your layout in Home stay the same or do you have to recustomize every time? (I know Sense lets you save your custom layout.)

The layouts stayed the same for me, but i found that if i switch back n forth a lot, Sense would start crashing and i'd have to reboot the phone. Now i'm just sticking with Home until i get bored with it
