Eris to v2.x, when?

Any one else having trouble setting up yahoo email? Keep entering the name/password, and then get a message saying something like please check the username/password..

I found the zip file. I just mount the file from my computer to my phone, then reboot, and then it should install right? I don't have to unzip before putting it on my phone.

Copied from earlier:

"Ok everyone you wanted a tutorial here you go.
This if for instructional purposes only, I'm not responsible if you break your phone.
Step 1. Get the patched 2.1 Rom here --> Download PB00IMG.zip from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way
Step 2. Place PB00IMG.zip onto your phones SD card
Step 3. make sure phone is off and hold Power button and Call Button.
Step 4. the menu opens quickly press the power key over the hboot option.
Step 5. Follow the instructions onscreen to install the update. the phone will reboot a few times.
Enjoy!"

+1 agreed. I have the 1.5 MR from Android Central and I have this leaked 2.1 so really I could update and then go back to 1.5 if I have to but there are issues you guys are having that I'll decide to go till March 26th or whatever the new date is and reevaluate installing it again or not.

I just updated to 2.1 and am waiting for my contacts to finish syncing. I was planning on going back to 1.5 with the official MR2 update to verify it works and post instructions on doing so to ease the folks on the forums here. There really isn't a need to verify it.

You can go back to 1.5 after the OTA by downloading the MR2 update. After you do this your phone should download the official OTA update from VZW. It's simple, really.

Anyone that has had a problem with an upgrade can always downgrade back to the older version and retry the OTA update.

How to manually update your Droid Eris | Android Central

I had my phone go really screwy and downgraded it a while back and did the update in stages. This will wipe all data on the phone so back it up first.

once you do that it'll do any of the updates that have already been pushed to the phone.

I've done this twice in the past with newer roms to get back to the second update we got. It should work. It does a full wipe and puts the older version on. The phone then immediately notifies you that you have an update available and it's the third patch.

Have you actually tried this after this ROM(2.1) is loaded ? If confirmed working this would make the decision a hec of alot easier for folks.

From what I know, the Droid can barely do it, the Eris would "explode" and the N1 is the only thing that can handle it right now.
I have a vogue running a custom 2.1 rom on it and it can handle the live wallpapers, it has less ram, and only 400 Mhz. this will handle it when rooted....

How can I tell if I have the newer patched file? Thanks in advance. At work right now!! Thinking about taking a vacation day just so i can get this on my phone..ha

Whether it works or not, nice find. I'm sure it will save people a lot of headache.

And yes, I guess I'm a bit more optimistic. The high from getting something new is running down, but this brings the excitement for root (as well as the possibility of it happening this time) very high.

Just an update on a few things I found, which is basically recapping what I've said before.

There's an issue with the browser that zooms you all the way out of the page everytime you view a new page. You'll have to zoom back in every time. It could just be me, though. No one else reported this.

The voice text thing does not work for me either, despite installing the pack and enabling it and whatnot. Typed an email and text, nothing came up. No biggie, maybe it isn't functioning or I'm not doing it right.

The phone is incredibly fast now, and the keyboard lag is gone. That is the biggest relief of mine. I can type on this forum at full speed and making minimal typos. No more frustrated swearing.

I do have to sign in to Google every time I boot up, but it really isn't that bad.

And DailyStrip is gone. A lot of apps that are protected by Google won't show up. I need a Digital clock widget similar to the one by Maize. And my previous WiFi and data widgets don't work. Well, the data doesn't. Anyone know of any good ones? I'm using Home, not Sense, so...

Voice search on Google search boots up a lot faster. No waiting time for it to initialize.

Is anyone else having the google logout per reboot issue? Right now that's what's keeping me from updating.

Also what steps do we need to take to get google navigation working. I'm terrible with directions and sometimes get lost driving home. I need google navigation.

Just updated: worked like a charm, first reboot took a little while longer... Noticed a new HTC boot screen also the verizon screen hits a little longer.

No brick! :-D

The Google logout is a known issue. It doesn't do it every time for me.

As for Nav, make sure to install the Text to Speech to get voice prompts.

And a YouTube video would be much appropriate....would stop dumb ASS people like me asking a million questions on how to do this...am I right or am I right.

Is text to speech an app I'll be able to downoad in the market? Sorry for the dumb questions.

:confused:Can anyone post what the total benefits of 2.1 are for our Droid's? Is this leaked version better or worse than the upcoming Verizon OTA? Would definitly like to see if we can go back, just in case. Can anyone verify we can use marketplace without any hinderence? What about the Live Wallpapers? Is this a hardware limitation? No biggy really, looks super cool but its not really a deal breaker. I really love the way it is now, came from an i910 Omnia, so anyone with that background knows how I feel. Thanks for any answers!

So the google thing is known...that makes me feel better. Do you have issues with Google Earth as well NKT? If we have the same issues you have, then I'm confident that when the OTA arrives, if it has fixes, we'll receive them as well.

New market works fine.

No live wall papers, only animated weather.

Once it's OTA, it will only load if your version is different than the one they push.

Haven't tried GE, but it's a pretty intense program so may not work well on the Eris.
