Eris to v2.x, when?

Hey, there are still eight days left in Q1.

On April Fools Day I'll rejoice in them not screwing up my 1.5. ;)

i usually don't post here, just watch people going crazy over a phone update LOL

but here is a sign of life, supposedly verizon will unveil skype today at the CTIA conference, now i have no idea if they will release it on the android market or just let loose the update for its android phones, so keep an eye on that.

Went to verizon today to show a buddy of mine the leaked 2.1 and he really liked it. He too is tired of waiting for the update and he has the Moto droid. He told me that the eris will probably not get the update this month, more like the mid to end of april. So sorry to say that bc, I too want the official 2.1.

There are many posts telling of buddies, co-workers, family members and favorite Howdy Doody puppeteers who happen to work at Verizon and have information about the OTA.

Trouble is, the posts with these stories contradict one another.

You folks need to compare notes and start getting these buddies, co-workers, familly members and puppeteers to get together and battle it out until only one is left standing; have him or her join this great forum and post all he or she really knows.

This may not mean anything. I was at a local verizon today to pay my bill. I noticed a flyer beside a Verizon rep's computer. It said "Verizon Wireless invites you to a FREE upcoming Android Workshop. Saturday March 27th 9:00-11:00am or 12:00-2:00pm." It's basically a workshop on showing you some of the 2.0 features and some of the apps. The rep let me have the flyer. I will take a pic and post it on here later.

I don't if this is just a local thing or national thing. Has anybody heard of Verizon giving an android workshop in your area this weekend?

According to this:

Free Android Workshop Offered by Verizon Wireless. Phone Reviews

it's pretty a pretty old workshop.

Here's one more recent from another local area:

We do have a few days left in Q1...

What worries be (or encourages me) a little... aren't we at the point where if they're NOT going to come through, they should issue a statement saying it's delayed???

Usually with other software, if they're going to miss a release date, someone usually pushes the date back in the press somewhere (or over the phone, at least).

The fact this hasn't happened yet either means 1) it's still coming on time... or 2) they're ignoring us.

if not this friday (the end of Q1 is wednesday, in case you haven't read it 20 times by now.) I'd accept the Friday after too (the 2nd).

This is all assuming that I can actually install the update over the latest 2.1 leak.

My friend works at VZW and he says he knows jack squat about update! I believe he is being truthful ;) was shocked how good 2.1 ran though.

I believe he was truthful as well.

Any who, does anyone know who the 3rd party company is that will actually assist VZW in pushing this update?

Who's Eugene O'Rourke? And I don'tt see anything on HTC's Twitter.

@chenry81 We are. Sprint Hero will be getting an update to 2.1 in the first half of this year.

That's on HTC's twitter :\

Hero is essentially the same as the Eris, right?

No, it's not the same. The Hero is on Sprint and the Eris is on Verizon. A lot of these delays are because of the carriers restricting their release date. Not the manufactures of the actual phone.

IMO, 2.1 is ready for the Eris, but Verizon is either still testing it or waiting until after they get the Nexus. Simple business strategy. Why give you the software when maybe I can get you to come in and buy a new phone with this pretty new 2.1 software on it. It's unfair to the consumer, but great for big business.

everyone should just expect the 2.1 update sometimes in May. Knowing how slow everything works, this may be a good date to shoot for. if this comes earlier, great! what a surprise. if not.. well.. at least you won't be checking the forum every other hour ;)

I've been holding back on the 2.1 leaks because to me, it sounds like it is most definitely NOT ready for prime time.

In particular, having EVERY Facebook friend show up on your phone contacts (vs. merging info with those you have already) and having all apps which access the web NOT WORK?!?!?!

...you can see why a few of us want the "real deal" here. :p

If Eris owners don't get the OTA upgrade by April 1, wouldn't it be a hoot if all Eris owners called *611 (Vz Service) at the same time, say 1:00 pm eastern time. Maybe Vz would get a sense (no pun intended) of the frustration we are all feeling.
Not that I'm suggesting that everyone do this..................;-)

I have newest 2.1 on my phone and I did not have every facebook friend show up in my contacts, and all my apps work fine.

Agreed. The fact that we're all running the same hardware, and the fact that 2.1 is running working well for the vast majority of us, tells me that the OS is extremely solid. It's the real deal.

For the small number of people with significant problems, there are really only two logical explanations: either they have a botched install, or are running a bad app. If it were anything else, people with problems would be in the majority, rather than the minority.

Just log out of Facebook then log back in on your Eris.

Hope everyone understands that business do not end their quarters in the middle of a week. I would guess that their Q1 ends on Saturday, April 3. So don't be to pissed if you don't have it bt March 31st.

Other than the snappier response I'm not sure why everyone is so anxious. I find it hard to use a 1.5 phone but if I wasn't used to the leak I doubt I'd notice. Seriously if your such a power user you need the features of 2.1 then load it. If not kick back relax and hope they perfect it. Seriously if ya'll weren't hanging out in phone forums you wouldn't even know its gonna be late!
