Eris to v2.x, when?

cellmate,

Your daughters phone wouldn't happen to be the EnV3 woud it? I currently am on Env3 #2 at the moment. The first one wouldn't stay powered on...would constantly have to check it throughout the day to ensure it was working.

phone #2 seems to be ok but i have my doubts.

PS: wife owns the eris which is why I frequent here. Its kinda laggy IMO, but i dont use it that often.

No her's was the Voyager, got her 3 (Insurance) to replace 2 (Crap power connectors break easily ) sold the 3rd one on Ebay and bought her a LG Chocolate Touch (USB Mini).

Gave her the last ultimatum.
1. U Break It U Buy IT.

OK I now officially call on the Mods to add a sarcasm meter to all posts.

I mean come on folks, look at the post and ask yourself "is he serious"? "What about this post could be considered Sarcasm"?

Talked to two Verizon techs who are both Eris users this morning at the store while I was trying to get them to replace my cracked screen. I brought up the update and they started talking to me about how pissed they were that we hadn't gotten it yet ("first they said January, then March 29th!" etc) and then told me to root to 2.1 haha. One of them did say they were expecting the update to come through at the end of the month, but no specific date. So basically they're just as clueless and just as annoyed as we are.

Was on VZW site looking at specs for the Incredible. It has a 1300mAh battery?! Is that right?

Anyway a chat "pop-up"... well... popped up, and I decided to ask that age old question...

Here's the transcript:

"Please wait for a Verizon Wireless sales representative to assist you with your order. Thank you for your patience!
A Verizon Wireless online pre-sales specialist has joined the chat. You are now chatting with Elizabeth
Elizabeth: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. May I help you with your order today?
carlos: Wondering about the Android 2.1 upgrade for the HTC Droid Eris. When is it going to be released, especially now that the HTC Droid Incredible is coming out next week?
Elizabeth: I don't know an exact date, but it is supposed to be sometime this spring.
carlos: Ok. A friend of mine was told be a VZW salesperson that the upgrade was not coming because of the Incredible.
Elizabeth: I am sorry that you were given incorrect information. But the upgrade is still going to be released sometime this Spring.
carlos: Ok. Thank you, Elizabeth.
Elizabeth: You are very welcome Carlos!
Elizabeth: Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
carlos: No. That was all.
Elizabeth: Thank you for visiting Verizon Wireless, I look forward to speaking with you again. Have a great day!"

Since the last day of Spring is June 20th, I guess that's the new deadline! :D

Yea, you were doing fine until that last little bit. Then all credibility went flying out the window.

BTW, didn't you just tell us that we needed lives? Why are you calling them.......after business hours?

I called them "late" because I work goofy hours. Don't see how that has anything to do with anything.

As far as being "misinformed", I hardly see how you can be so sure of that yourself. Look at it this way... The official update from HTC hasn't been released because it's destructive and hasn't been fixed yet. So how is it possible you've gotten your hands on a "working leaked" update when one does not officially exist yet?

Maybe you can also tell me where to get my hands on a leaked time machine...

My point is simply this, and you can take it, leave it or make a big fuss about how I'm just a moron: Why would you risk installing something on your phone you have no way of being certain who developed it, or what the package contains when you can just wait and get the official one in a month or two?

And no... I'm not trying to discredit those who have installed it already. I'm talking to those who are considering doing it. If you install a leaked copy of the 2.1 update and, God forbid, it ends up frying your phone, you've voided your warranty and HTC won't help you. You'll be out a phone.

It's just something to think about.

There's no way that they will release the second leak as the official OTA. There are way too many bugs that should be fixed before it's official.

Seriously. I still have 100% awake time until I stop using the default messages app. I don't know how they can claim that bug is fixed. I'll be happy when I know I can safely go in and bitch about my somewhat mediocre experience with this phone so I can try to weasel them into giving me a nicer HTC model.

I did that
I am back to 1.5
I did get my replacement phone to day, and now I am not sure if I should waits for the OTA update to the 2.1 or reload the leaked version or???
I was having problem with calls and had to reboot it at least once a day.

One think for sure if we do not get the OTA by the end of April I am gone do something.

I'm due for complaining about mine and getting myself a new [referbed] one myself. I'm still on 1.5 and i dont wana goto 2.1 becuz of the whole voiding warranty thing. TO be honest I want to install the leak and see if it fixes my problem [the whole trackball ghost sliding thing I mentioned before here]. I tried cleaning trackball but no dice and its really pissing my off becuz its starting to freeze my phone and causing my to force close the message app and im at wits end [so much so i never thought id use that phrase lol]. I think its time to get a replacement

Don't know if I'm allowed to do this (I guess the mods can/will delete this if I'm not), but here it is.
Official 2.1 Update: News and Updates - HTC Droid Eris Forum

Says in two weeks, and that the V2 2.1 leak is the official one that will get pushed out. Says that if you have the v2 leak, you will NOT get the OTA. But, still, take it for whatever you want, I just came across it on google today.

In that "official 2.1 update":

Also I was told that the two leaked eris OS's were in fact leaked by Verizon it's self in hope's to get internet feedback about bug's so they could fix them before the OTA was sent out.
You had me going until that parting statement. Yeah, sure

I work for big red, and we've never been given any kinda of date, or approximation anymore. Originally was the by end of Q1, but nothing since then. I doubt they'll let it go un-upgraded as we have sooo many customers with these now. I haveit, v2 leak and love it. I used to have the audio failing issue, but since the v2 leak i've not had it happen. but i Keep my ear here just in case some authenticated news comes out. BTW I love the 7screen view by Pinching the screen or dblk tapping home, easy to move from far right to far left. thanks for all the help and epaceful forumness here.

I have been thinking about this for awhile now, and it is starting to bug me. If verizon did release the leak in an effort to get feed back and fix bugs before they release the ota, why would it void the warranty on your phone? if they sent it out, and it ruins the phone, shouldnt they be responsible for that? Im just wondering.:)

After joining this forum last year (right after I got the Eris) I got excited about upcoming events with this phone. Now, 4 months later, way after VZW promised 2.1 "soon", I find it amazing how I STILL see posts on here about "when is the 2.1 coming?" Soooo, I ordered the Incredible and I put my Eris on Craigslist yesterday. Screw it, I'm moving on.

That strategy seems quite reasonable, to me. If an Eris owner is not satisfied with the device as it is, 1.5, and especially if there was an implication or overt promise of an upgrade coming in any time frame that has passed, then a true upgrade to another device seems like the way to go.

Good luck; I hope the Incredible is everything it's touted to be.

I'm new here, I just got my Eris yesterday, but I noticed on Verizon's website that the HTC Droid Incredible is shipping on the 29th with the Android 2.1 os... I'm not the most tech savvy person, but could that potentially mean that the Eris could be getting it's 2.1 updgrade in the next week? Or am I being blissfully ignorant in my hope and thought process... They're both HTC, so why couldn't they upgrade the Eris if the Incredible has the new(er) OS?

That's a $199.00 question. Nobody really knows for sure, so all we'll do is speculate and hope.

Hey, I'm new to the site. I've gotten a lot of great info from here and just got an update about the update version from HTC today and figured I should probably sign up and share the info. The Eris update will be 2.1 Here is the email from HTC...

****** *********,

Thank you for contacting HTC via email. My name is Richard and I will be more than happy to assist with your question regarding an update to your HTC Droid Eris. I understand how important it is to have the most up to date software on your device.
Your HTC Droid Eris is set to receive an update to the Android 2.1 operating system. We are working with Verizon to ensure the update meets our standards before releasing it to our valued customers. Unfortunately, I do not have an exact release date of the software as those dates can change without notice. When the update is ready you will receive a notification on your device letting you know the software is ready to be installed. For up to date information regarding updates as well as other news you may follow HTC on various social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

You may also enjoy community.htc.com, our customer-based forum, which has a plethora of information on HTC devices. I would also like to invite you to participate in a customer satisfaction survey located at HTC Online Survey. I hope you have a great day!

Well we already knew there wasn't an official date yet and that HTC and Verizon are "working" on the update. Not seeing any new news here. All that post does it continue to verify that there is an update is coming, we just don't know exactly when.

AF remains a great experience regardless...other than the overly redundant comments about the same thing. I wonder if some people know you can type in your query in the "new thread" box and look and see if its been addressed already. I do this all the time and generally find that the issue I have in mind has been discussed somewhere in these forums.
