Eris to v2.x, when?

I just looked at it about 20 seconds ago and it's there. Are you sure you were at the Verizon Eris version?

Personal Communications Devices

Huh. I usually check it by going to this link:
Personal Communications Devices

And in the upper left, filtering on "Verizon Wireless", and then clicking on the ADR6200. That brings up the detail page, if you again pick "Verizon wireless" from the menu and select "Downloads", the link is missing. I know it used to be there....

Maybe I'm using an "unsupported" way to get to the downloads, who knows...

Well, you have to understand the Incredible is the successor to Eris. It's like the selling of the Storm and Storm 2. One just gets phased out slowly.

The Eris is/was the bargain buy. People will still buy it.

They need to keep the support for the Eris. Apple keeps the iPhones/iPod Touch up to date no matter what generation. They will need to do the same for the Android phones if they want to stay competitive in the market. If people are paying a premium for a phone/media player, and 6 months later they drop support for that phone, you're going to have a lot of upset customers that will be willing to move to a different carrier.

These phones can do a lot more these days, and you need to pay higher prices for them. They will update them for a few generations at least. They first need to get the majority of the phones on the same page. Once that's done, the updates will roll out more quickly. These initial updates are going to be slow, but they will get better and faster. They have to to stay competitive in the market.

This is incorrect. The first generation iPhone and iPod Touch will not be able to update to OS4. They only offer updates for 2 years from the date of release.

So, this is where the 2.0 thread went to. I'm getting so tired of this. Last week, it was "August 24", then "June". Today, "it will never happen".:mad::mad::mad::mad:

While this is understandable, wasn't our eris released about 6 months ago? That's certainly not 2 years. Gimme another year and a half of updates and support and I'll be satisfied.

and here we go again... i sent a detailed overly annoying complaint email, along with the story of how I am the techie of the family and will not recommend any htc phone and or buy 1 for myself again etc etc.. and this was the response( i also emailed verizon and google dev, htc was the only response that seemed like they even read my email)

here was my email I sent

Hi, I
purchased an HTC droid Eris back in November. I was promised by the
sales rep that it would be getting the upgrade to 2.1 software shortly.
Maybe my definition of shortly and his greatly vary, but from what I
have seen it the htc hero has atleast been acknowledged to be getting
2.1, the eris is reaching its EOL next month and there is not a word as
to what is happening with the eris software. The reason i am writing
this is to let you know that because of this lack of support that I will
not be recommending any form of HTC phone to anyone of my friends and/or
family (I am the techie of the family and am always asked "what should I
buy". Which in total would be 9 phone upgrades this year alone. Nor will
I ever consider an HTC for any of my future upgrades. The eris 1.5
software contains multiple bugs that were also slated to be fixed, most
of which were not. I was looking forward to the HTC Incredible and had
done some research on it but seeing where the eris has gone I am not too
keen on bothering to look at it any longer as I am sure HTC will promise
a lot of things and deliver very very few. If I am wrong please feel
free to direct me to the information or maybe the acknowledgment that
the eris is not the beginning of the end of a good company, or that the
incredible is looking to be fully supported for more than 6 months.
Maybe a discounted incredible to try for the users that loved the idea
of what the eris offered and were severely led on and let down. please
do not respond to me with the usual we have no eta on the 2.1 eris
update. I would rather just be ignored like I have been since I bought
the phone. I for one know my faith would be maybe somewhat restored in
the company if something was done or announced sometime in the very very
near future.

(please do not flame my sent email i do not want an incredible ... it is what i decided to do after watching summer school. if your over 30 you've probably seen it they write a similar letter and get a case of free sunglasses lol ahhhh 80s movies late at night)

Hi Jason, My name is Sara and I will be assisting you today. I understand you

This is the first update that does not include all the phones...do you honestly expect them to support the phone forever? I hope not...2 years of support is a good amount of time...you can expect the same from htc....stop complaining and wait for the first update to roll out...they will become more frequent as time goes on. Do you expect an update every month? You've had your phone for not even 5 months...relax

Havent seen a new post here for a couple days for I figured I'd stop in a say, Blah blah come on 2.1 update lets get this show on the road, blah blah lol

Not sure if people who watch this thread also read on the main Eris forum, but HTC released the source code for the Eris' kernel, and it matches the version number from the latest (3rd) 2.1 leaked ROM. This is a very good indication that the OTA update is close, and will probably be the same as that 3rd leaked 2.1 ROM.

HTC would not release the kernel source to developers if more changes were in the pipe. The fact that the source was released means the update should be coming soon.

That's great news! But does anyone know the average amount of time that goes by when source code is released to when actual OTA is sent out? So we have a balpark of a time frame to look for the OTA. Damn I hope it's real soon I'm still on 1.5 and was waiting for the official instead of rooting.

Hero is supposed to get an update may 7th...maybe we're next. Not sure how close they are. I believe i read its sprints version of verizons eris. Keeping my fingers crossed heh.

Lol, may 7th is a myth. That just means some of the Sprint people enjoy cinco de mayo, and want to enjoy it an extra 2 days. Then the hangovers... then realization that it's missing another 3 applications they need to put on it to make it slow.

I guess all the Sprint people were having too much fun at their Cinco De Mayo parties. Hero 2.1 update is not happening tomorrow. Who know's when?

huh, the pdf says we'll get pinch to zoom in maps... none of the leaks have brought this! And what is this about a new 3d gallery? Interesting...

Well, I for one have not ruled out the possibility of the Verizon site having been hacked.

v3 was probably just a beta of this final release since v3 seems to have a number of the features listed (nav and 7 home screen thumbnail view for example). Sounds like v3 was the 40% complete leak.

It's about time. Not looking forward to wiping my phone clean again, but oh well.

Well comparing the version number in the pdf to the version in the 3rd leak, they are identical. (Both the software version and baseband versions match). So maybe a patched version of maps is included (and the Nexus gallery maybe?), but I'd bet the actual release will be very similar to the 3rd leak.
