Eris to v2.x, when?

No doubt the day I join I copy and paste the email I get from Verizon and a few are so flippin stupid to think I would post some bogus email. I have better things to do than to cause crap! Then they want to know my connections tough titty they are my connections.
 
I have seen this a lot now, there is reason to be leery about someone who's 1st is something regarding a new update/leak. I have been lurking most of my time on XDA and its gonna happen, one thing about this update, its going to bee a while.

I'm sure they don't want the issues with the moto-droid again, and its going to be in incremental batches as long as the success rate is high, that way they eliminate the possibility of massive issues or OTA fragmentation. Give it this and maybe next week before getting really antsy, by then your 50% of the original time frame.

And all I hear regarding us leaker's, we should see OTA as usual.

HTC Droid Eris...I got a notification that an update is available, BUT, it also said that I would have to re-sync my contacts...

I'm a newbie and don't exactly know what that means. My contacts were put in by hand originally, so I'm hoping that I won't have to do that again after updating...long and painful process.

Can anyone help me understand what is meant by "re-sync'd" and whether there is a way to save my contacts off onto my SD card or something so I don't have to laboriously re-input them after updating?

:)!!!!!!!!! Just woke up to a update notification this morning 5/15/10. Installed it right away and now have navigation and can watch youtube videos with no problem. I havent checked to see if yahoo mail works with it yet but I can tell you that I still have a huge smile on my face. I dont know how to prove this to any of u sceptics, hopefully im not the only one who got the OTA update.

hopefully this means something to someone. im not a tech nerd (no offense) so i guess u will just have to take my word for it.
 
We have two Eris phones here at this house. My daughters running 1.5, and mine running v3. Hers got the update tonight!!! Mine however did not. Guess that answers the question of wether or not my v3 phone will get the OTA update. Oh well....I am fine with the v3! :)

Oh yeah...we are in South GA.
 
Got the update last night in central NY. Not overly impressed yet. Makes the phone faster and the new widgets are nice. Nav is sweet, etc. However I had to reinstall Google Voice because it would force close every time I would open it. The HTC weather app force closes and then force closes Sense every F'ing time I open it as well. Did a restart didn't help. Anyone else have the weather issue?

NO question is dumb lol. NOt a big deal to re sync your android. ALl of your contacts are saved to your Google account and will automatically re sync when you log in.
 
Got the 2.1 OTA update today for my Eris, (5/16/10 )
Thank you Verizon, better late then never. I thought i was gonna be stuck with 1.5 forever! (Philadelphia Pa.)
The Navigator is great ! Turn by turn, voiced directions.
 
Received the 2,1 update today. Installation went well. Then sync'ed calendar and contacts. Everything seems to work OK except for the speed dial function. My previous #'s were cleared during the upgrade. Now when I enter a new speed dial number and select a key and press save, it doesn't save.

Anyone else seen this issue?

I'm having the weather problem too. It doesn't ever seem to update. I drove somewhere else today and it still said my home location. Whenever I try to open the weather application it crashes the phone. I've tried restarting the phone.... nothing. It still crashes. Is there any kind of fix for this?

I fixed it by enabling my GPS before I started it. After I did that once and sucessfully opened the app it hasn't had a problem since.
 
I also have the cell standby bug. Easily corrected by the airplane mode workaround. Hopefully there will be a patch soon. Other than that, phone runs smoother than ever! :)
 
ok this is going to be the stupidest question i will ask, but I have the 2.1 update, my girlfriend has the 2.1 update, but her parents don't want to believe her that it is mandatory update. now heres the question, what will happen if they don't upgrade to 2.1? will the update just sit there or will verizon force the phone to update itself? I'm looking for a reasonable answer not flames.

MY 2cents is as long as you Do not activate the update your phone shouldn't force it. I could be wrong. but the ota is not an automatIc thing, just a link to the download. But my question is why would you not want it? It is offered to make your phone perform better and stay up to date with our fast growing android world.

but would verizon make them?
 
Okay, Sorry ahead of time if this question has been answered 500 times. But there's 51 pages of posts and I don't have the time to read through all of them.

If I upgraded to the 3rd leak that CaddyMan posted about a month ago am I still elidgable for the OTA update that is supposedly coming out so soon in MA?

Any light that could be shed would be much appreciated.

No- the software and radio versions are the same between the 3rd leak and the actual OTA so it will not try to offer it to you; it thinks you already have it.

It has been pretty much proven the 3rd leak and the OTA are identical - the only difference being a special APK needed to achieve the OTA update. (And the OTA leaves the HBoot alone, whereas the leak updates it).
 
The 3rd leak is pretty much flawless despite a few glitchy things that happen. My only problem is trying to download keyboard applications. For some reason the phone doesn't recognize Better Keyboard or SlideIT Keyboard. The only one that worked for me was the SWYPE Keyboard from this forum. Then the trial expired. Pretty discouraging.
 
I have yet to get my update. If I don't get it by next Tuesday (the deadline) I will have to manually get it from android central. I don't want to do that now. I rather have Verizon send the update to my phone.

I had the third leak and the phone still updated to OTA, nothing got qiped except settings, but that's about it.
