Eris to v2.x, when?

By all means the eris is amazing, but when typing some of these messages like i am now on the eris I have to pace myself so I do not get too far ahead and mot notice a typing error,..

I think the majority of cell phone users type much faster than I do, thus my no-lag experience. ;)

I would not doubt that.

But what's wrong with 1.5 again? Ok, I've seen a few lists here and there, but at 1.5 this Eris does all I need or want it to do, with no lag, great battery life (I do have the 1750 but noticed that the 1300 was fine as it was and improving with use and charge cycles) and a great collection of stock applications and configuration possibilities with "scenes," etc.

I anticipate updates as others do, but with the hope the updates are not degrading to the performance of the device, as some updates to cell phones and computers can be. Again, 1.5 works (for me).

I want to see the updated market place, certain apps wont work for 1.5, and I really want turn by turn navigation.

Are those things that could be offered by application developers?

In other words, is a full update necessary for those things (or root)? I am asking because I don't know, not because I think app devs could make it happen.

you do relealize android 1.5 was released april 2009, and is getting rather outdated. the eris works for me, mostly, but it is indeed. the software API's are only possible with the update for the newer 2.X features. btw CDMA support had to be backported to 1.5:eek:, instead of just giving us 1.6:rolleyes:.

you know what will really suck...if htc takes all this time developing a version of 2.x for us...and its projected to be the best thing ever!....then when we get...its the worst possible os ever :-P

nah, i ran a earlier version of 2.1 with sense on the vogue a few months back, and it ran great. :D

i rarely use the sense home screen, i bought open home and i have been using it ever since, i change themes like you wouldnt believe but its always fun :) now im stuck on the black and red theme

I did not know 1.5 went back that far.

I thought for sure it came out a few minutes prior to my making my Eris purchase a few weeks ago. :D

With me, it's usually the opposite -- I buy something, and then the very next day an upgraded version is announced. :(

I remember waiting patiently for the 1.5 update back when I had my G1, little did I know when I bought my Eris it would still be on 1.5. Oh well, no I get something to look forward to when we finally receive an update.

Phonescoop.com is reporting that HTC's CEO Peter Chou said that "it will provide updates to its existing lineup of Hero devices (GSM model,Sprint version,Droid Eris)." Update will include new version of Sense UI. However, no word on when the update will arrive.:D

Yeah, the first time I looked at Phonescoop I had my doubts it was even legitimate, because the page design looks like it's just a template from a cheap piece of web-design software. But they've actually got really good info there, and a lot of it.

The Eris will be getting updated to 2.1 within a couple weeks. The software was just released to the testers. I'll see what I can find out about feature wise. :)

I followed a tweet of the HTC press event and saw that they are adding the new sense to some of it's existing phones, "like the Hero" but didn't see anything about 2.1 or Eris. Anyone else come up with tweets or blogs that confirm the announcement? I think what drives most of us crazy is the secrecy on a date. We were told Q1 but did they decide to hold off due to new Sense or is that why they are taking so long to get the update out this quarter?

It's coming. Don't have a hard date yet, but it's just been released for testing.

I still find it funny how impatient everyone can be for updates. After having a BlackBerry and waiting almost an entire year for a very minor update, waiting a few months for a new OS doesn't bother me that much. Don't get me wrong, I still want it, but a lot of you guys act like it has been years of waiting on this and not just a few months.....or even a few days for some of you.;)

It will come. Don't worry. :D
