Eris to v2.x, when?

Well, it's not produced by a cable-only network, it's produced by Fox. So it should be available OTA just about anywhere. IIRC it is syndicated on cable on Comedy Central and TBS.

As for the 2.x update, I too am tiring of waiting. I nearly bought a N1, and although I love my phone, I am starting to wonder if I will regret my purchase. I really love the Sense UI, but I can deal without it if it causes such a delay with updates.

Maybe I will feel better after I root it soon... ;)

Call me Babe Ruth, because I'm calling this shot. Root will be done no earlier than mid-March whether 2.1 is out for us then, or not. The universe has a weird way of making things work out like this.

LOL. Knowing my luck, that is exactly how things will pan out. I've been keeping one eye on the "Root Bounty" thread over on xda-forums, and I will keep my fingers crossed, for now.

I wonder how much sooner the updates would come out if you had to sync up with your pc versus the whole OTA thing. Seems like it would also keep the airwaves from being so cluttered wiht all of the downloads.

That is the only thing I miss about my last phone, which was an unlocked Nokia on AT&T. I was always able to get the updates way ahead of time by downloading and installing from my PC. I guess Verizon has to make the updates idiot-proof though.

You're better off checking this site daily:

Practice what you preach.

You will notice this thread http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/34197-eris-update-mr2-official.html started by yours truly on 1/7/10.

Phandroid did not announce it until 1/11/10 HTC Droid Eris and 3UK Hero Get Updates | Android Phone Fans

If you need any help navigating this site, let me know.

Oh yes, and www.pcdphones.com is the official site for the upgrade download.

Phandroid is NOT the best site to look for breaking news. There are a myriad of websites, that when used in combination, allow nothing to slip past you. It just depends to what degree your obsessiveness is. My Google reader rakes in about 140 or so articles a day. I don't read 140 articles a day, but I most certainly do skim each and every headline. And of course not all of them are tech related. Stuff like cars, and silly sites like Lamebook and People of Wal-Mart (both, highly recommended) keep me entertained.

Having a Reader loaded with several certain newsfeeds will keep you up to date and eliminate the need for about half the threads started in this section. But then, again, you can't expect people to have the time to go to that extent to get news.

Just to clarify the Personal Communications Devices is not a forum or news site like this one. It is actually the site where the updates are available for download. The whole relationship between PCD/HTC/Audiovox and their corporate histories together is confusing and would do no good to discuss in this thread. However unlike the other droid, HTC provides us with this alternate way to upgrade. I did both mr1 and mr2 this way. But then again I'm a little impatient when waiting for VZW to push it to my phone, and I work for them. I don't know when the update is going to be available, but when it does, I will probably download it to my pc. Yes you have to re-set up your phone, but I'm comfortable with that, and for me it gives me the assurance that nothing I had installed previously will conflict. Happens with blackberries, so its my own paranoia.

Your choice. The option is there. Your comfort level may be different.

To be fair tho, this site is probably the best source for a lot of info. Crackberry for the Android world. Just keep an eye on pcd. When the next update appears there, you will know the push is coming.

Practice what you preach.

You love yourself so very much, don't you. ;) Enough self-love to truly "preach" publicly, tcbj; those types are being arrested left and right these days, world-wide. Be careful. :D

As for me, providing a link in this thread to remind you that this site that you're "preaching" on is the best I've seen, including the sales site you seem to admire so much, could be characterized as preaching, I suppose, but seemed more to me, as I typed in the url, like an expression of appreciation for the crew here doing the work that allows folks like you to and here and to ply your trade. ;)

Now now...

We haven't had a thread reach 19 pages and stay civil yet, let's not mess this one up eh? Keep it friendly and on topic please.

:D

Hey, sometimes a post looks not civil but was composed while laughing; when I read the "practice what you preach" post by that person I broke out in a guffaw, especially after reading the "yours truly" bragging. That's high comedy and worth the price of admission.

Wait, it's free here. :p

The topic is, "..2.x, when?" so, we have:

Verizon confirms HTC Droid Eris to get Android 2.x update – Android and Me

and:

DROID Android 2.1 update in January, Opus One iDEN Android handset, ZiiLabs Trinity shows off | PHONE Magazine

and (my personal favorite):

"The Droid Eris 2.0/2.1 update should be available between January, 2010 and April, 2010. No specific date is available. ChaCha on." from, Do you know when the Droid Eris 2.0/2.1 update will be | ChaCha Answers

I love when a range of three months or so is given out. ;)

Hey, I was just all excited because I skimmed the thread a little too fast, and thought that I read that self-love was going to be a feature of 2.1 ... ;)

:D har! I am now wondering how close to the top of a Google search list "Eris 2.1 update self-love" will be now that it's been posted right here in Android Forums a couple of times. <---- weirdest smiley I can find here

Price of the phone is not an issue. People need to know they will be paying min $80 per month for voice and the required data plan if they buy the Eris. With much need features most will be paying $90 per month....
I'm only paying $25 a month for my unlimited, talk, text and data plan.

I'm not even sure why it's so cheap! I was anticipating $50 but when I went to activate my Eris they said the fee for unlimited talk, text, and data would only be $25. It may have been so cheap because I already had unlimited talk and text. I'm not sure though lol.

Hell my wife wants the droid and I may as well go to the droid, this eris typing on the Internet Is extremely slow, that and getting tired of the constant lag and delay on this phone when I open an application. But I am almost sure the droid will get the update to 2.3 n eris will still be on 1.5

I am almost sure the droid will get the update to 2.3 n eris will still be on 1.5

I would not doubt that.

But what's wrong with 1.5 again? Ok, I've seen a few lists here and there, but at 1.5 this Eris does all I need or want it to do, with no lag, great battery life (I do have the 1750 but noticed that the 1300 was fine as it was and improving with use and charge cycles) and a great collection of stock applications and configuration possibilities with "scenes," etc.

I anticipate updates as others do, but with the hope the updates are not degrading to the performance of the device, as some updates to cell phones and computers can be. Again, 1.5 works (for me).

By all means the eris is amazing, but when typing some of these messages like i am now on the eris I have to pace myself so I do not get too far ahead and mot notice a typing error, but regardless of my decision at least I am stinking with the android and not going back to the blackberry or even worse the iPhone. I do not care to much for the update I'm just hoping it fixes the lag Issue n the YouTube app
