I don't get how people can constantly get new phones like that. i keep hearing about people who have six phones in three years, or are defecting to a Nexus One after four months with an Eris. How do they do that? I for one don't have $600 lying around to buy a new phone every four months.

Well, yeah, there was a "root", they just didn't call it that. The leaked ROM had to be ported from the newer device that had the updated operating system, then with each new WinMO phone the devs had to find a way to replace the stock system. It was as I understand it basically the same process as the guys rooting this phone. Different WinMo phones had different hacks to allow the end user to upload the new software. But from the quickness of that process occuring I think it is safe to say that the Eris is locked down a bit tighter. Root is probably the wrong word to use for the Windows OS, but it was a similar situation. At least that is the way I understand it. Once someone developed a kitchen and started cooking then non-programmers like me could use their work. But it wasn't instantly available, it took time.

I, for one, love my Eris. Sure, it has its issues (What doesn't?), but it's far superior to my Blackberry Curve (which I thought was cool in its day)! I'm looking forward to 2.1 but, in the meantime, it's still one heck of an awesome phone!

you know... after reading thread after thread talking about 2.1, what it will include, when it will come, I'm beginning to get the sense that several of you are driving yourselves crazy over this....
yeah 2.1 will be cool to have, but 1.5 is working great for me
I believe some of you are losing sleep over this when there is absolutely no need to

I just want the ability to have Bluetooth to act as a serial port. That's what I'm waiting for.

dude i had this phone sence nov and i cant wait for 2.1 if u dislike the phone so much then cough up a half a g and get a new one mayn but dont bad mouth it because u got wun dat is slow get rid of some app's hard reset it or use the insurance and get a newer one but dont get mad fix the problem this fone iz better then 85% off the phones on the market 2.1 will drop and u be all over herre telling every wun the fone kicks ass just chill out man the fone will get better

I got the Eris last Wednesday and I'm quite pleased. The only issue I had was the the home aka the little house had some some black lines coming across it when it was lighted and the E in menu wasn't lighted. Exchanged it on Sunday and all is well. Being this is my first smartphone, I didn't really know what to expect. Tinkered with friends iPhone, but that was it. As a tinkerer of phones and computers, I always desire the most from a product. The limit I can push it past the current level. To get something that I didn't pay for. Seeing that I got the phone when BestBuy was giving them away for free. It looks like I won here. I do notice the slight lags. I do notice the length of loading. Will 2.0 or 2.1 fix these prolly not. But one can only hope. Am I pleased with all the things it can do right now? Yea. Am I ever in a rush to having something load? No, I got a spare few seconds of my life for something that woulda took me extra effort to go to the computer to do that same but wouldn't be logical when I am in the streets. So when the 2.0 or 2.1 comes out then Great. But for now, shit talking this phone like what Smacky has been doing for the last few pages is very unproductive and helps no one. Being new to this forum, he has lessened my experience here. Don't get me wrong, he has a few valid points, but the way he is putting them out there is unnecessary.

i dont get the point of calling people out for spelling/grammar on a forum about phones. if they get their point across it should be good enough.

I second this, my BB Curve was cool....but this phone is so much better
ya i want 2.1 or better yet root.... but it will happen when it happens, nothing I can do to speed it up

Not true, some of it was bad, but I am sure most could understand what he was trying to say. It wasn't that bad and it shouldn't even be a big deal.
I don't think its personal but I would say that some (me included) have no interest in translating hip-speak. I got a few words into the first sentence and moved on. I suppose that's too bad for those that having something worthwhile to contribute.

EXCELLENT! so did I, dead serious. When i see that i usually skip over it, like anything that doesn't interest me. I never had an urge to call him out for it, some people type like that. I know grown people with kids that type like that, i am not even kidding.

I'm jumping to the N1 as soon as it comes out and I've had my Eris since the start of this year. I have a good job and a little money to play, but I don't go spend $500 on a new phone every month. I try to be intelligent about it. My first smart phone was a Samsung SCH-i760 that I bought last july for $50. I then bought a TP a month later for $100 and sold the Samsung for $100 (I love people who don't know better
). I kept the TP until I bought the Eris for $300. I turned around and sold the TP for $150. So I have about $200 invested in phones and at no time did I ever have to sign a contract. I never intend to resign and want to stay month to month. I will buy the N1 when it comes out and hopefully sell my Eris for about $250 to $300. You can be a phone whore for not much money if you play it right
