Eris to v2.x, when?

Buy one get one free should be enough said! They were giving these phones away! I kick myself for going with this phone...at times...but I kick MYSELF...not VZW, HTC, or Google...or anyone else that I can get pissed off at and complain with entitlement.

Just want to point out that the Touch Pro 2 is now BOGOF as well as the Driod.

You guys have really f*cked up now!! They're turning on each other now because of all the bitching!!!

I just want to be able to use Google Maps Navigation.

The Google Maps that works with 1.5 is just awful.

It can't reliably update a route while underway - I most often get a repeat of the original directions the first 3 or 4 times I request an update.

It's nowhere near accurate in the final leg of the destination - it once declared a destination 3.7 miles from the last turn when it fact it was over 7 miles.

It winds you through side streets and neighborhoods when the main roads would do just as well - presumably because they are literally the shortest route - without any practical thought or consideration.

This is with GPS on in a major city - not relying upon the mobile network alone off the beaten path in the middle of nowhere.

I tried CoPilot Live after reading a good review of it in a tech magazine, and was even willing to pony up the $34.95 for the North American maps, but it refused to download to the phone directly. I had to install a desktop client, plug the Eris into my computer, and attempt to download it that way - which it repeatedly refused to do.

Their website was disappointingly unhelpful, and I returned it to Marketplace within 24 hours for a credit.

I would go VZ Navigator, but I don't want another $10 a month on an already out-of-control phone bill, when the device should soon be able to utilize Google's own application.

29 days, right? :-)

HTC is having difficulties uploading 2.1 w/ Sense to the Severs

The testers who got the OTA are having one of three outcomes
1. Basically perfect like NKT's
2. Complete BRICK of the phone
3. Bits and Pieces of the OTA that aren't the full OS and just mess up the phone till a FR is implemented..

This isn't anyone's fault and no HTC, Google and VZW are not conspiring against Eris users. The Verizon servers aren't accepting 2.1 + Sense for some reason. When the update is pushed it will be OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED

Jrz has this cut and paste thing down now. This and Tommy Lee Jones are the go to answers now.

@jameskuzman

I just replied to another post on this forum about CoPilot Live.

I have it and have used it several times without any major problems. I updated the software and downloaded the maps, all OTA. The maps do take a long time to download, but I never had any connection problems.

The only real issue I've encountered with it is the map graphic got all scrambled on me once.

If you aren't satisfied with 1.5's option (or can't wait for 2.1), I highly recommend giving it another try. It can be had for less than $35...

Part of the reason I am looking forward to 2.1 is so I can see how the two different programs compare.

Well, it seems precedent was set by Apple/AT&T when they dropped the price and then came out with the upgraded iPhone. People went into full freak out mode and they caved into rebates and such.

Now people think that if they whine enough, they'll get their way.

Hey NKT-hasn't it been that way since Eve said to Adam: "honey, could go get me another one of those apples!..... No, not that one, the one God said we're not supposed to eat!....... Alright, if you want something done you do it yourself!!"

Ya know ... in the world of technology everyone is constantly examining everyone else's product, and appropriating the ideas that they can. And at the same time, they're figuring out ways to prevent the opposition from doing the same thing. It's standard operating procedure for everyone -- not just Apple, or HTC, or M$, or anyone else.

As for arguing who's right and who's wrong, that's best left to the hardcore fanboys who choose to turn such things into religious-style arguments. For the rest of us, it's just way too muddy to sort out.

29 days to go. I never really expected it to come until March. But I wish, just once, someone would get something like this done before it was expected. "In Q1" should not always mean they roll it out March 31st at 11:59pm and 58.5 seconds.

Has Verizon officially said they are pushing Android 2.1 out to Eris users in Q1? Link? If they did, isn't it reasonable that this is a timeline subject to change? Personally, I think they are handling it just right - mum's the word until ready. It's really the only responsible way to handle it.
