Eris to v2.x, when?

It is basically the same phone, but update timetable can be totally different. Sprint works on ours while Verizon works on yours. If Sprint is working harder or faster than Verizon, we will get our update before you.

On the 15 I sent a message to HTC in reference to the update and got this reply.

Thank you for contacting HTC via email. My name is Richard and I will be more than happy to assist with your question regarding an update to your HTC Droid Eris. I understand how important it is to have the most up to date software on your device.

Your HTC Droid Eris is set to receive an update to the Android 2.1 operating system. We are working with Verizon to ensure the update meets our standards before releasing it to our valued customers. Unfortunately, I do not have a set date as to when the update will be released. When the update is ready you will receive a notification on your device letting you know the software is ready to be installed. For up to date information regarding updates as well as other news you may follow HTC on various social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

I replied and pressed harder for more information and received this reply back.

Thank you for your reply to HTC. Again my name is Richard and I will be assisting you today.

HTC and Verizon work together on the update. It takes time to fully develop parts of the software such as HTC sense for the device. The only remote date I can give is sometime at the end of April. Here in tech support we are not given any type of official release information until the software has been released from Verizon. Verizon will be pushing the update to your device once the standards have been met.

I took the replies I got from the nice HTC rep and Emailed Verizon and I finally got a Voice mail and a Email from them and this is what I was told from Verizon Today at 2 pm.

Thank you for contacting Verizon Wireless. As a reflection of my commitment to provide the best customer service possible, I attempted to call you. Unfortunately, I was only able to leave a voicemail. I am sorry for the inconvenience of not being able to update your device to the 2.1 software. Currently Verizon Wireless is in the process of testing the software and we do not have a release date for the software. When it is released, you will get a message to the device with the option of updating the software over the air. If you have any further questions, please call 800-922-0204. Thank you for choosing Verizon Wireless, we appreciate your business. Cindy

Believe what you want I believe its coming soon and I am not jumping ship right yet. Plus I don't really want to have to buy out right a new phone.

Dropped by local VZW shop (Bay Terrace in Bayside, NY) to deal with issue with Eris. Didn't even bring up 2.1 update, but the rep mentioned update coming soon since new HTC device is coming out. Acted like I had no clue that he was obviously talking about Incredible; he mentioned DROID was updated when another Motorola came out. I assume he was talking about Devour. Yes, more pointless fuel added to fire.

NO ONE KNOWS WHEN THE ERIS WILL BE UPDATED!!!!!!

jesus christ let's put this to rest already and just wait for the OTA to come out.

OK --

I should have been more explicit.

"I spent the weekend asking verizon employees WHAT TIME OF DAY IT WAS.
I GOT A DIFFERENT ANSWER EACH TIME I ASKED"

This was an old joke. As the time of day changes constantly, one receives a different answer each time the question is asked, and the asker can't understand why he keeps getting different answers.

I tried to be funny. FAIL.

Actually I got it. If that is any consolation.

(shrug) I thought it was funny....

OK so here it is folks, the unequivocal, unarguable, not to be doubted, end all, answer to the question - When Will Eris be updated to 2.1?

Today whilst in the Verizon store picking up my 16 year old daughter's 4th phone in 1 1/2 years. I, after looking around to make sure no one else was listening in, asked my erstwhile salesman, who in this conversation we'll just call Nick (well it was the name on his badge) when we Eris owners could expect to get our, and here's where it got tricky, OTA to 2.1. Nick (may not be his real name) looked around and waited until another rep was out of ear shot, leaned into me and whispered... "we have no idea"

Very Strange, Very Strange indeed.

That might have been the funniest thing I've read in months!

So last night I pick up my phone and in the notification list it says, "1 update available"

I start to get excited, like a kid on christmas morning. Stop for a second to reread the notification just to make sure it says what I think it says. Open the notification....and its one of my stupid apps that has an update.

The OTA update will not show up like an app update. It will actually appear on your screen over top of whatever you are doing. It takes up pretty much the entire middle of the screen asking you to install it.

I've been trying to get a hold of my sales guy all morning....he isnt answering so I can only assume he is preparing for the 2.1 rollout for the Eris!

What a morning. I'm marveling at the strange tenacity of an individual who would actually "spend the whole weekend" calling anybody, let alone Verizon stores asking the time, and then being surprised when he was given different times each call.

I'm sorry, but that is borderline classic asininity, and I only say "borderline" because to leave that qualifier out would nudge this post another notch in the direction of an insult to a fellow member here, and I sure don't want to do that.

What a morning.

For those who feel compelled to keep asking various Verizon or associated people when 2.1 is coming OTA, I really have to question you motives. It seems there is a need by some people to ask someone a question, whom they know doesn't have the answer, and then denigrate them publically - even if not by name. The fact that they don't have the answer or gave a personal opinion shouldn't reflect negatively on them, or even Verizon. Is this some deal where you try to pump yourself up by tearing others down?

When the official release is ready, you will be notified. For the life of me, if you are on this forum regularly, I can't understand why you just don't install the leak and start providing helpful information.

+1

The unreliability of the information being provided by Verizon employees on this topic has been documented to death ... all the pointless, transcribed conversations that continue to be reported here serve absolutely no purpose at all.

I agree with you Lessit. I got tired of waiting and installed the 2.1 myself. Had I known how easy it was, I would've done it sooner. I was like everyone else...wondering when Verizon would release the OTA version. However, after completing it, I now ask "why didn't I do this sooner?".

Take matters into your own hands, people.....don't be afraid to take ownership of your phone and stop acting like a lemming.

Those who understood, understood.

I'm not going to vivisect the (admittedly lame) joke yet again. You didn't get it - move on.

You're killing me, man. People have been ushered out of movie theaters for laughing, less than I am reading your posts, at supposedly serious scenes.

What a morning. Thank you!
