Damned kids have caught up and passed us old farts!!!

:D:D:D:D:D

Let me tell all of those "kids" something. My grandson is 12 and his buddy is also 12. Why they need a cell phone is beyond me, but it's what kids do these days and what the hell. Anyway, my grandson's buddy (I'll call him Jim) was talking to a girl, as 12 year olds tend to do as they discover certain working parts of bodies. This girl told Jim that if he sent her a picture of his junk (that's male organs just in case you didn't know) that she would return the favor by sending a picture of her goodies, down there. So Jim sends the photo and about 15 text messages, and during one of those text messages says one word that pisses the girl off. She finds him in the halls and calls him a man whore for showing his junk. Jim calls her a bitch for not sending her photo as she had promised. When he called her bitch, it set off that thing girls have in their brain that is set to explode when a guy calls her a certain word. She gets mad as hell and to teach Jim a lesson she goes home that evening and telss her mom and dad that some perverted boy has been bothering her and has sent her obscene pictures of himself.

Jim is 12 years old remember. He was arrested and hand cuffed and was charged with 3 felony counts of sexual perversion with a child. If convicted, he faces jail time until he reaches 18, probation after that, and for the rest of his dumb ass 12 year old til forever life, Jim will have to register as a sex offender where ever he goes. He was kicked out of school or 3 days, even though these texts and photos were supposedly sent outside of school. He is banned from participating in any school programs outside of class. That means he can not play football as he had this year, and will never be allowed to as long as he is in school. He has to shower by himself and can not be in the presence of any other people while he is naked, and he must be accompanied by an adult male whenever he is showering or naked in the school. All this because he sent a grl a picture of his junk.

So "kids" out there who have parents who let you have a phone, be smart enough to prove to them that you are responsible and that you would never be as stupid as Jim. By the way, Jim went to court. Because the judge realized he was just a 12 year old learning about girls and whatever, she gave him a break. He is on probation until he turns 18. As long as he never does anything sexual or sexually perverted until then, he will not have to do all of that other stuff I mentioned. And if he is a good boy until he turns 18, the whole thing will be expunged from his records. Even so, don't even think about being as stupid as Jim was. The District Attorney's Office wanted to jack him up to the fullest extent of the law to teach other kids a lesson about being a pervert with a cell phone. He has to walk on eggshells for the next 6 years. If he so much as gets in trouble for anything, he goes to jail, has to register, and all of that other stuff. Just be smart enough to be able to tame your raging hormones to a point that you don't take a picture of yourself that you will regret. Even having a picture like that (any nudity of a person under 18 - or any nudity possessed by someone under 18) on your phone before you are 18 is a violation of the law. Be smart and stay out of trouble if you want to prove to your parents that you are responsible enough to have that phone.

Yipe, what a horror story, Daddio.

I'm sure it's repeated many times over around the country, too.

"Sexting" seems to be the latest nasty little thing going on; every generation has their "nasty little things" going on.

Thats a very good point to make daddio. And what makes it worse is that people our age are doing the exact same thing that our 12 yr old friend did! And we wonder where they get it from...

I love that the 20's and 40's are dominating this poll! C'mon 40's let's show these "kids" who's in charge! And WTF stopping at 40+!?!??!?!?! We are not in the "last category of life", can the moderator add 50's, 60's, 70's?????

:p

I am 50, but my daughter who also now has the Eris is 20. I purchased because she needed internet/email access for a research project...and it was a deal hard to pass up.

So far I really like the phone.

When I composed the poll I really had no idea there'd be so many over 40. Honest.

So I just made over 40 the last catagory. No disrespect intended to those of us in decades beyond 40, obviously. ;)

The time I was able to get a cell phone was when I convinced my parents I could pay for it. (sophomore in high school) That may be a good way to do it. Promotes responsibility! My parents have never paid a cent for my phone or phone bill. BTW I’m 25.

17...18 in august, Yay me!!!

I received my first cell when i was 12 which was a Virgin mobile and then went to Boost at 15 to Verizon at 16(Big jump)...My very first phone from VW was an env 2, moto krave then the lg dare, samsung omnia, bb storm, samsung alias, lg env touch, bb storm again, htc imagio, Htc droid eris, Motorola Droid, Palm pre back to the eris

lol so i'm kind of spoiled :)

oh and to the parents in the thread who are or eventually will be considering buying a cell for their kids....

I know i'm young but i think sharing ideas and opinions respectfully shouldn't be the mature to the young...it should be both ways

If you're considering buying a cellphone for your kid under age 14(pre paid is a good alternative) because it allows them to learn to manage minutes without having to commit to a cell and that way if they run out of the mins...their screwed till the following month
unless you give them an allowance or something...and think of it this way if 12 year old billy or mandy have a contract cellphone...and you ground them...theoretically you still have to pay the bill, right...even if they don't use the minutes?

And for kids 14 or older...UNLIMITED TEXTING...are the two words every parent should know...i prefer to text than talk(i send like 12k per month and yes I have a life lolz) and my dad made the mistake of not being specific in order unlimited and just texting...long story short...our first bill was supposed to be like 119 altogether...in the end it was like close to 2 grand...He told me i had unlimited and of course i used it unlimitedly(is that a word?) and now i have unlimited haha....U can save money on minutes because most kids my age or younger prefer to text then talk

oh and to kids my age in this forum or thread...if your parents don't know how to text....DONT TEACH THEM lolz

I taught my mother(who oddly enough is a computer whiz yet texting was hard for her) last year....

and i regretted...lol the random text messages when we are in the house together(even in the next room) are annoying haha

oh and yesterday morning...

She texted me and asked me what a milf was....

needless to say I'm scarred :)
