Ever been called FAKE iPhone?

Nah not fake, but I've had people say that the Desire is for people who can't afford an iPhone.

My response: Why would I pay more for a phone that is only half as a good as the one I've got? That would be stupid :D

I think it's because most of the "next gen" smartphones have copied the iPhone. The iPhone was the first to integrate all of these sensors, kinetic scrolling, etc, into one device. Everyone else followed suit.

If somebody did it before Apple then feel free to correct me, but I believe Apple were the first to incorporate all of those into one device.

Kids comment is because iphone is good at games which alot of younger iphone users are interested in. To be honest I would recommend iphone to any user who started the mostly wanted to play games, this generation of phones anyway.

For others who want a work phone and or multi media phone then I would not recommend iphone.

Think that's a valid comment.

Very valid.

Personally, I find it very fisher-price though.

Not necessarily because its for kids, its just got the whole "my first smartphone" thing going on.

Not always a bad thing, just that its not for me

If anyone calls the Desire or any smart phone other than an iPhone a fake iPhone I would have a good chuckle.

My son dropped his iPhone 4 off his lap and the screen shattered. He is away so I have chased up the repairing of it for when he gets home.

I was absolutely amazed to discover that this is about the number one issue people are having with them.

There are all sorts of forum threads and photos on the net about the issue and Apple couldn't care less that they have made such flaw in the design in the name of looks.

So was it a design flaw or a design?

With a third party repair bill of nearly $200.00 with a genuine screen Steve Jobs and the other Apple share holders are making a killing, especially when the cost to Apple is under $30.00.

I think I would reply to the !ntelegent (?) being making the statement, "Is it!. Well I'm glad it is then as I will always know that I won't have to be replacing screens on a regular basis".

Life was so much simpler in the '60's

All of my friends either use a dumbphone or an iphone.
The iphone 4 is really good, and has a much better camera than the desire, but I still like the desire more.
I just cant seem to get why so many people are sticking to a phone without widgets.

depends where you live. 09:00, tuesday morning, police had to escort a drunk of the bus. Theres usually a plethora of "scum" on my buses.

By scum I am refering to the people who are eyeing up your possessions and weighing up whether they can "take you" or not.

this sounds like the matrix..... you can have an iphone, and stay in a world of fantasy, where you think you have the latest and greatest, or you could buy an Android, and KNOW you have the latest and greatest

Wow.

Never really had the issue of it being called a "fake" iPhone, but I get a little irked when people refer to any smartphone as an iPhone. Same with any mp3 players being called an iPod. I hate it because it implies it's Apples market and the alternatives are just imitations and Apple got there first.
Somebody at work asked if they could quickly use my "iPhone" for a call, I said I have a HTC Desire and he dismissed it saying "whatever you know what I mean".. It then dawned on me how ignorant (or dependant) people are to brands.
I like the iPhone. Genuinely do. It's an impressive piece of tech which is so simple to use and almost idiot proof. But it's the ridiculous costs, the lack of functionality behind it (i.e. so little customisation and the dev team is considered worse than the Taliban in Apple's eyes) puts me off no end. Not to mention it comes with an image of snobbery and elitism. I know it's unfair to sweep eveyone in the same category, but I've never come across someone saying "I'll look it up on my Android phone" or "let me call him on his Android phone". It may be a clever marketing ploy to have it called an iPhone so it does roll off the tongue and interchangeable with the word "phone" and it's certainly worked.
Android is getting more popular by the day - but for average Joe who wants a powerful intuitive smartphone and not having to learn about it to use it? I think the iPhone has it in the bag. People want something they can pull out of the box and simply go "WOW!" and have it set up in minutes and is usiversally recognised as being "the best".

Like it or lump it I'm afraid. Apple and it's reputation wont be going anywhere anytime soon.

" so simple to use and almost idiot proof"
Kinda says it all.

Iphone- Out of the box and that's it. Wow yeah great stuff, a new phone. i think usually for people who just want a phone.

Android. Well, i think that's for more.. smarter people? People who like to go ... ooooohh what's this do? I'll change that, i like this bit and make it their own.

I heard in these forums somewhere "I'd love to see the "Show us your home screen thread" on the Iphone" oooh i see you moved an icon, niiiice!
I haven't seen two Android based device that look the same.

That's 100% why I LOVE Android. The freedom, and ability to make OUR phones how WE like them. NOT what someone else thinks we should have them.

Yeah, exactly.
I Do like the general look/feel that of the Iphone(s) but I couldn't give up android.

Its all a bit eggs in one basket though. Since it is only one phone a year, they have to get it right. Imagine if the next iPhone was a lemon?

Well, I mean Apple in general. Not just the iphone. However I reckon if they bring out a phone in the shape of a dog turd and labelled it iDogShit fan boys would flock to it saying its a reflection of everything in the market.
