Evo 3D 'pro' reviews

I so cannot wait. That Sense 3.0. I am still trying to decide how I want to do my home screens and I plan on having lots of scenes. Before I had mutlicon and all my screens were so covered and messy and I didn't really use any other scenes. But this time I want nice neat pages not all cluttered and I'll have different scenes. I also like how under apps you can have your favorites. This phone is going to rock!

glad to see that since wednesday alot more positive reviews have come out. After spending some time with the device I really couldnt believe some of the early reviews. Hope you guys enjoy your 3d's this friday !

Im starting to think that maybe some of these reviewers were....possibly..."holding it wrong"

I still think the bad call quality reviews were primarily based out of NYC (where I am). Sprint's 3G and voice quality varies from block to block in Manhattan which can drain your battery really quickly and cause some muffled conversations (still have the pre so don't know about 4G).

Verizon is basically the only network that works well around here but Sprint has won me over with everything else not related to coverage so I'll stick with them until frustration sets in. Will definitely take advantage of their 30 day grace period.

Since Verizon has the best coverage in your area how is it possible that Sprint coverage is aight? We can roam on Verizons network.

Just called my Sprint store and they are opening early at 8 in da morning. Yeah boy. Getting me a R2-3VO...LOL.

We only get to roam on their 1x network, call quality is good though.

Good Lord... I love Phone Arena... What a great well thought out and thorough review.

Yes, and reassuring that call quality issues are not more widespread (I was beginning to suspect manufacturing process and inconsistencies). Its still a bummer that the camera remains sub-par. I use my phone camera every day (Cairn terrier puppies that are an absolute riot!), and was looking forward to better stills and videos - but, I am marginally excited about filming their antics in 3D.

Whether this phone is a worthy successor to the original Evo remains to be seen, at least on paper I'm not quite ready to go that far.

Interesting that he was able to consisently get 1.4ish mb/s on his upload speeds. I thought sprint openly stated they cap upload speeds at 1 mb/s and every test I've done in multiple cities capped at 1 mb/s. I wonder if this signifies a change or if the 3vo can eek out more mb/s for some reason.

Sprint increased the upload cap to 1.5 a week or so ago.

EDIT:
It was on June 10th.

BlackDynamite beat me to it. Here is a link talking about the increase:

Dang he beat me twice!

I think location has A LOT to do with any issues regarding call quality, connectivity, dropped calls, etc. For example, when I was with AT&T, their service in MN was very good for the most part. When I was in Chicago, it was complete garbage. Dropped calls all the time, failed connectivity, poor voice quality, etc. Same carrier & service, different geographical locations.

I agree with you that poor voice quality reviews, as well as reception issues, likely are the result of the geographical location the devices were tested in. Any problems with the Sprint network won't be the same everywhere, some locations (huge metro areas like Chicago, NY, etc) are much more likely to experience issues then smaller areas with less network resource demand (i.e. users).

lol, that's one of EarlyMon's pet peeves :)

Agreed that this Phone Arena review is THE review to read. If it praises, it gives a lot of details why. If it criticizes, you know exactly why they came to that conclusion. And they prove that they really know their stuff.

It's one thing to write a review with strong conclusions; it's another to back it up with understanding and facts. That's what makes this review stand out over any others we've seen thus far.

This is why they are one of the few places I go to see reviews at and I put a lil more weight in theirs. I go to Engadget mostly for the comments. Its good entertainment...lol Engadget is cool too tho.

Phone Arena and Anandtech....2 of my favs for reviews.

Well the part that is worrisome is the comparisons made to the evo. It suggest (to me) that reception for the 3d is weaker than the evo 4g.

Cool. Let the doubters come to the party late. From what I gather the EVO 3D doubles the EVO 4G in all aspects.

Well the Evo was tested over a year ago, and things have changed a lot over the past year for Sprint. At the time that review was done, Sprint didn't really have ANY devices to write home about, and their customer care wasn't rated that well. Customer satisfaction wasn't great either.

Fast forward 1 year to today: Now Sprint has SEVERAL nationally renowned devices, they were rated #1 in customer satisfaction and are really starting to build their customer base back up after everyone started to leave a few years ago.

With many more subscribers added over the past year (especially in larger metro areas and more devices using 4G and thus eating up bandwidth), same geographic location may not fare as well today as it did a year ago.

Prime example of this is again when I was with AT&T before bailing to join Sprint. Even in Chicago, their network wasn't that bad UNTIL the iPhone came out. Once that hit and all those subscribers started eating away at bandwidth, their service was never the same and quality of everything went down the tubes. Too much stress on their network then it was really designed to handle at that point.

I just noticed something funny about the Engadget review. In the comments somebody asked why the 3D rated lower than the Sensation, and the writer of the review commented saying because the Sensation was a better phone. The original commenter replied asking how that's possible considering they are almost exactly the same phone, but minus 3D on the sensation, and the writer never replied lol!

But to be honest it doesn't really make any sense considering they are the same base phone but without 3D, less on-board storage, less RAM, no wimax support, and a smaller battery on the Sensation. So the E3D isn't the same phone with added 3D, but has a lot of features over the Sensation, yet the Sensation gets reviewed higher? In the E3D review they even say that the qHD display looked exactly like the Sensation's in every way, yet docked points on the E3D's display while in the Sensation review saying that it looked fantastic. What is going on here?!

is just the 3d recording under 1080, or the 2d as well?

Only 720p recording on both 2D and 3D. It will playback 1080p content from other sources though (whatever that means seeing as how the screen isn't 1920 x 1080). Could mean that the phone can push 1080p content to a TV via HDMI.... No clue though.

A nice little thing I read on another forum for people who are disappointed in what is an incredible phone.

Do u want it to fly u in space. I mean what else would u possibly want? Bigger battery? Done. Double the processing speed? Done. Double the memory? Done. Better Res? Done. New version of sense? Done. Gingerbread? Done. No lag? Done. What else would soomeone want is out of my capacity to think. If u want a phone to use as your camera then you really don't want a phone. 720p recording is still good for any phone. The wirefly video was pretty damn good for a phone.

Yeah, that was a response to my comment about the 3D not living up to the legacy begun by the release of the Evo 4G. I stand by that comment.

You know, some reviews seem to be indicating that the screen on the phone isn't the best, but yet the only negative I've read about is viewing angles.

Do people really care about viewing angles so much on such a small device? It's intended to be primarily a one-person device.

As long as the screen looks fine when looked at straight-on, that's all that should matter on a cell phone.

If that's really the only complaint, I consider that pretty acceptable.

Apparently only snobs with their thumbs up their..........

It's pretty ticky tac to knock a phone over that and the 720p over the 1080p. I'll take consumer reports review as gospel as they are not going to endorse the EVO 3D unless its legit.
