what rom are you on?

i have:

cm9 sonic flame
kernel
2.6.38.8 evervolv- acies-ics+

i think that when i noticed i had no vm app i installed youmail and set to default, it failed so i uninstalled. the problem was i did not set default back to carrier. so i did this, and now i get voicemails again.

NICE!!!!!!!!! thanx for posting your solution. in the future, if you can post as much info as possible so that those trying to help can get a better picture with what is going on.

i dont know what the op is and i dont know how to post links?

i do like this rom it runs very smooth.

but yes i am on sprint and i have tried another rom that i liked, also an ics, that would not send pictures. i didnt know if there was something i could flash that would fix mms.

I see that rom has a themed mms added to it.
Perhaps you can pull the mms apk from the rom .zip and manually install it? Dont know if it is a system app or user app tho...
I think i'll download it and look

Edit: I downloaded the rom, looked in /system/app and found "mms.apk" and "mms-helper.apk".
Could it be that simple to transfer those 2 to the sd card and move to /system/apk, fix permissions, then reboot?

that's possible but you will need to check to see if the rom has those apk's already. if so then you need to rename those as well. just switch the apk to a .bak or rename it all together.

Ok that sounds like great leads, but where do i start.

I can check the es file manager on my phone for the apk,s?
then if they r there, rename them to .bak?
then usb flash the new apk's from? to my sd?

Sort of. The last step for the new apk's is to use es file manager to install the apk's.

I just looked at the Tom on my comp and the files are there so when I flashed the rom didn't that already flash those to my phone. Do I need to do the permissions step that mikestony was talking about. If so could you walk me through the permissions.

yes you will need to set permission from read only to read/ write (rw). you will need to do everything with es file manager.

1.move the new mms.apk's to the sd card
2.find the mms apk's using es
3.rename the file
4.next copy the new mms.apk's and paste them to where you found the original mms apk's.

that's it. now make sure you make a nandroid backup before doing this. that way you can go back if you messed up or if it does not work.

op=original post or sometimes original poster

to post links you can either just copy and paste the link right into your post or you can select the symbol
createlink.gif
delete the highlighted link and you can add whatever you want the link to say.

and i have not read of any mms fix for ics. most should have it working as far as i know.

Just as a side note, in ES File Explorer, go into settings, and check the last 3 boxes....
Root Explorer, Mount File System, and Backup System App (I suppose the last one is optional, but I have it checked)
If you check the boxes for the first 2, it will allow you to change things in /system.
Another file explorer, which is sometimes easier imo, is RootExplorer....because on the very top there is an option box on top to mount /system as read/write, or read/only.

Edit: this video is the way I would replace the /system apk. As ocn, said, first rename both your original mms files to something like mms.bak.apk...then put both mms apk's pulled from the rom .zip to your sd card....
And then make sure the permissions for both mms.apk's match the rest of the apk's in /system.

NANDROID BACKUP FIRST...in case anything goes wonky....

Edit again...you may have to reboot for things to take effect...

Ok @mikestony I did check the boxes, thank you for that.
@ocn I cannot find the the original apk in my file manager.
I know how to extract apk from new rom on comp and put in root on SD card. I can cut and paste to new location from es file manager.
What is the new location (where the original apk is found)and when and where is permissions done.

the location of the original apk is in /system/app.
I would just rename it like add to the end of it .bak i.e. mms.apk to mms.apk.bak
set permissions by long pressing on the apk and the option
"permissions" comes up. you can change permissions once the apk is moved so you know what the rest of the /system/app permissions are.
But I would surmise that pulling the apk's from the rom have the correct permissions.
I hope by the time I hit "submit", ocn hasn't ninjd me :) lol

Edit: I think I beat him, but I gotta drive home now and I aint typing while driving...lol

Ok let me know when you get home. I'm to confused.

I don't need my comp for this I have the sonicflame 2.2 zip in my es file manager. I can click on that and it opens I find system/app/mms.apk, now. I just don't know where to find the original location on my phone from the rom flash, so I don't know where to paste the apk to.

No problem. Gimme 20 minutes or so. I uploaded some helpful pix
Edit: o.k...i'm home so...
When you first open EsFile Explorer, you see your sd card content as indicated by the "/sdcard" on top.

You are now in the /system/app..
my mms is a little different than yours but that is where your mms and mms-helper should be currently.
Its kinda small, but you can see my permissions set at rw-r--r--
Yours may be the same or similar.
