Root Evo 4G rooted but issues with recovery

OK I tried this one, as well as some others. It reads it in hboot, I even get the blue progress bar on the right hand side. Then it goes to the parsing message then back to hboot screen. No options for update.
I just backed my sd card up and am going to reformat from recovery and see what happens.

Azakabam this sounds identical to the issue I was having a couple of weeks ago...if I can make a suggestion without causing confusion:
If the op can get back to the sprint rom and flash it...and get knot rom manager and flash anon ra from there..it may work. The selection is called flash alternate recovery. When I had my issue it took 2 or three tried before it took but it did work.

I wonder if anyone else is having these issues. Nobody else has said they were having trouble with those PC36IMG.zip files (other than the two of you). I wonder if it's the files, or if hboot is having that much trouble flashing recovery in general. It sounds more like the latter, to me. I think this is a bootloader problem of some sort. Mr. Ed, I believe cymbiotica already did that, right (in reference to flashing RA from ROM manager)? It seems to only be a problem when flashing PC36IMG.zip files. I don't think you said specifically, but have you tried flashing the stock recovery from PC36IMG.zip? That one, in particular was pulled from a RUU. Use the 3.70 one and see if it does the same thing. The main difference between the PC36IMG.zip file you successfully flashed and the ones that don't work for you is that sprint lovers doesn't include a recovery image. Let's see if stock will work. That'll remove all other potential factors. I have a hard time believing there is a problem with the files.
Yes, ruu replaces everything. The question is, was it replacing hboot that fixed it or was it flashing the stock recovery that fixed it. Both are done in a RUU. I think this could be an hboot problem. If we get to the point where we think that's the cause of this, I might suggest reflashing hboot. A good old RUU sounds like it'll do the trick. In either case, flashing the stock recovery is the easiest test, so let's start with that.

OK so I downloaded PC36IMG_Recovery_3.70.651.1.zip, renamed it to PC36IMG.zip and rebooted into hboot, and drum roll please.....
it read it and updated. I was also then able to reboot to my new favorite ROM (ok I have only tried 3) mykFroyo4.4.
So now what? Do I try to add a splashscreen or something to test?
I can't say how much I appreciate all this help. I am getting a small handle on how this all is functioning now too. I used to be a programmer(degree but no practical experience) so my head works appropriately for this sometimes.

I wanted to point out.... it's ok to flash both the CM and Gapps file at the same times. Just flash CM then flash Gapps. -- Whenever you get to this point.
Seriously, that worked? Try flashing the Clockwork PC36IMG.zip again to see what it does. That other one I had you try earlier was the CW recovery.img placed in the PC36IMG.zip for the hboot 2.10 recovery (that you just flashed). Weird. Just to verify, when you reboot into recovery now, you have the stock recovery? Go ahead and try the CW PC36IMG.zip now. After that flash RA from ROM manager again to get back to where you were.
Some people have ended up in bootloops from trying to do that. It's safer to do them separately. Of course, if you're able to do it, great...

Yea, I'm as surprised as you here. When I reboot with vol down I get to hboot screen. then when I choose revovery I get a black screen with a small phone and red triangle with an "!" in it...

Ok, that's expected. Try flashing CW again (use that second one linked to, first). If it doesn't work, just reflash RA from ROM manager for now, and we can take it from there. I guess it *could* be a bad image, but as I've said, a lot of people have used it with no problems. Plus you tried the RA PC36IMG files as well with no success, right?

side question...is there a way to see which kernel is running?
I did a search and the only thing I got was use setCPU to check, and if I have the kernel I think I do they don't play nice together.

And that's the same thing that happened with all the other recovery PC36IMG.zip files, including the RA ones? When I get home from work, I'll try the same file on my phone. I'd think if other people (or a lot at least) had this issue, somebody would have said something by now. I'll still check all the same just to make sure. If all seems fine, I'm thinking you might have some kind of hboot issues. As Mr. Ed seemingly had this same problem, but fixed most issues by unrooting and flashing a RUU, I might suggest you do the same.
Menu->settings->about phone->software information. You'll see your kernel listed there. Setcpu can be used with any kernel, as default behavior is to set the min/max at the kernel defaults, and just give you an option for what governor to use. More or less, your choice of governor is what determines what other features of setcpu you should or shouldn't use, with a few exceptions, of course. What kernel do you have?

taking a look at unroot steps...if i did do this, would I be able to use my RA nand backup if i get back to where I am now?
On one condition - your hboot version doesn't change. You have hboot 2.10, right? If so, you have no OTA updates to accept, which means your hboot version won't change. Of course, you have to stick with the same recovery after you root again.
I've been at this for over 9 hours now. I started with Revolutionary, Did everything except Create a Back up File using PC361IMG. The root was successful. Now i tried a out Rom and wasn't to crazy about it and decided to try and go back to My normal evo/htc lay out. (I had been using Rom Manger) My Evo's system was working off of 2.3.3. This is were the first problem occurred. Looking back i see i missed out on one of the steps and have been trying to recover what i lost since. But Rom Manger did ask me before I choose to check out this new Rom if i'd like to back my current one up, which is the normal layout and I did. In asking to go back.. my phone became a brick. I decided not to give up and figure out how to get into the Sim card, cause my computer wasn't seeing that i was connected at all. I found a way to Load a Recovery zip with a PC261IMG.zip. I downloaded them.. I did not open the zips before hand just placed them in the sim file. After that the phone recognized this process and restored it back to it's factory setting. Yay losing everything except whats on the Sim. Now I decided after all this frustration that i was going to UN root the phone and get the phone back to its original state. So i followed some advice off of You tube, but then got Hit a Black wall. The Phone in the Middle with a Red Triangle.. Now both files (PC26..) i used before are not working now. When i first get to the boot screen, in green writing it says it can not read and the picture or art is wrong. I try to Resolve and end up back at the black screen. I've looked and downloaded recovery zips from Clockwork to Amon to Stock Recovery and playing the switching game. I have now finally hit a brick wall and i don't know what to do. Since the phone is still rooted is it better to just apply a new Rom and continue on? Is there a way i can get back to how my phone once was before this? Or am i stuck with this factory setting for now on.. Please Help.. Anybody..

so what recovery do you have now? do you have access to recovery? do you still have s-off? what is your hboot? is your phone bootable?
answer those questions then we can help you out.
