Evo 4g vs Evo 3d screen

cs2870

Lurker
I have an htc evo 4g since day one, and still love it.

I looked at the evo 3d at the store, and despite the higher resolution, the colors seemed washed out and not nearly as vibrant as my evo 4g.

Is there a setting that controls this, or is the 4g's screen better?

If the evo is the flagship, I really think they did it an injustice with putting a screen in the 3d with color that is not as least as good as the 4g. Especially with all these amoled screens popping up. Vibrant color should be a "must have" for the flagship phone.

Seriously disappointed

While I find the colors to be slightly dimmer compared to the 4G, I find them to be far more accurate. It is akin to watching a TV in "vibrant" or "dynamic" and then calibrating the screen to a more accurate level. The 4G looks good, but a bit cartoonish by comparison. Not a shred of disappointment here.

The store demo phone could also have settings changed by the hundreds of people who play with it. The theme chosen could also be a darker theme and thus not as vibrant, brightness turned down, etc...

I played with the Evo 3D in the store and the screen seemed pretty decent, compared to my Evo 4G.

My wife got her 3VO first and comparing my EVO to her 3VO the 3VO has "deeper" colors but the screen isn't anywhere near as bright as the EVO.

There is no issue with the E3D's colors. I just dug through my photo collection for a picture that has the most vibrant colors I could think of, and I had both phones display them. Then I took my dSLR and took a photo of both, side by side.

The resulting image quality is nowhere as good as the originals (it's a picture of a picture), but the point is to compare the relative differences between the E4G and E3D. As you can see, the E3D does just fine when it comes to contrast (the term 'washed out' implies bad contrast) and saturation (what you probably meant by 'vibrant').

Others mention that the E3D is less bright than the E4G. I don't see it. Cameras do a good job at showing which image is brighter. I don't see anything worth complaining about.

I have both the evo 4g and evo 3d... EVO 3D screen seems bright enough to me. Nothing that set off the alarm that the screen isn't sufficiently lit. Maybe it's because of the type of screen you had on the EVO 4G? Remember there were two - one with colder colors the other with warmer colors. EVO 3D seems more natural to me, easier on the eyes, and you could always turn brightness up to max if needed. I leave it halfway.

A brighter screen would have been nicer (Droid X2 is crazy bright), but I don't see a problem with E3D's screen... maybe not all of them are the same though.

Actually the Evo had screens supplied by Novatec, Epson and SLCD. Between that and lots of unit to unit variations WITHIN the Novatec screens alone, in addition to the occasional 3vo lemon screens, and I'd say we should expect observables and opinions all over the map.

Remember: stories of the Evo having two screen suppliers started when there was really only one. Each report at the time began: Well, besides the fact that my phone was broken, I've concluded... (Note: I hate lazy thinking.)

I have good screens in both my Evo and 3vo. Subjectively, it's a tough call. Objectively, the 3vo wins on color and brightness.

If you see a 3vo lacking on those points I'd suggest checking another copy.

Was comparing this the other day and while 3d is crisper the 4g is more vibrant/brighter (when u compare side by side its a big difference). I adjusted the brightness manually and seemed to help a little but then when out in sunlight u couldn't even see the screen so I went back to auto adjust
