Root Evo Bricked? (only bootloader and recovery screens)

Imaim

Newbie
Hi Everyone!

I tried to flash the XDA's Pink *****cat ROM onto my daughter's Evo 4G (she LOVES pink!), and I may have bricked the phone.

I can only access the bootloader and recovery screens. Even whey I try to power down, it goes to the bootloader.

Any idea how I can salvage this without losing the phone? Thank you SOO much for any help or advice, and my daughter thanks you, too!

Jeff

Can you get to recovery at all?

Edit: also, can you post back here what your bootloader screen says?
No worries, I dont think it's bricked :)

yeah like mikey has said, you should be fine. as long as you have a recovery and bootloader you are ok.

so did you make a nandroid backup? you can always restore it, if so. if not you can always re-flash the rom. do you have a link to the rom? i never heard of this one.

and like mikey asked can you also post what your hboot and radio is. it can be found in the bootloader screen.

Thanks for putting my mind at ease! Yes, I can get to both the bootlaoder and recovery screen. Unfortunately, it had been a while since I flashed a new ROM and I forgot to make a nandroid backup. Bleh.

The bootloader screen/HBOOT looks like this:

-Revolutionary-
SUPERSONIC EVT3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.16.1002
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_16ab
RADIO-2.15.00.0808

Does that help? Thanks to the both of you for your help...i GREATLY appreciate it! You guys rock!!!

Nice, do you have a rom in mind? What rom was she on before?
Let me find the list that Ocnbrze made, that has a bunch of roms listed for ya...there will be "staff picks" along with a slew of others to choose from :)

Edit: actually, it is at the top of the forum in a Sticky, but here ya go:

I'm just curious as to a link to the rom you attempted to flash is?

Edit again: o good lord, ninj'd again

ok guys,
back on topic (sorry op)

so you can either try and wipe fully (everything except for the sd card) and reflash the rom. hopefully you have the rom file still on the card. if not in recovery, there is a usb toggle option depending on what recovery you have. you can move the rom of your choice onto the sd card that way and flash it thru recovery.

hopefully that helps.

also a suggestion then would be to switch recoveries. cwm has been known to not wipe properly and can create issues. my suggestion is to try another recovery. i like amon ra2.3, but others like smelkus recovery.

use this guide http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html and go to the switching recoveries section for instructions.

edit: you can find the list of available recoveries here: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/618281-list-utilities-apps-roms-kernels-og-evo.html as well as other roms.

I tried to find it in CWM but didn't see that option...maybe it doesn't have it. Is there a way to change recoveries from the spot I'm in, you think?

Also, while tryiing to locate the toggle option, I found that I DID have a restore file listed; but when I tried to restore, I was given this error message: "MD5 mismatch!" Damn, any idea what this one means?

I REALLY appreciate your help!!!

in i think storage and mounts there should be mount usb mass storage option. that should be your way into the sd card.

and yes we can switch from where you are at.
1.download the recovery
2.rename the file to PC36IMG
3.using the above, move the file to the sd card (no folders)
4.in recovery reboot to bootloader(not sure if there is an option for that in cwm.) or you can power the phone off.
5.boot into the bootloader and and let it update
6.done!

edit: the md5 is a way to verify that you have the right download and that you have a file that is not bad or was corrupted while downloading. i think in cwm there is a way to disable md5 verification.
