Accessories EVO car dock now available?

i believe it acts differently when paired with the car kit. if you launch car panel, then hit menu > settings, there's an option there to disable auto launch. so essentially, i think you can use car panel, just not in car kit mode. guess i'll be finding out once i get home in a few hrs :)

Yeah, I'm aware of that one, but I was more concerned with the landscape mode and Car Panel apparently doesn't change to landscape, even with the dock. I downloaded the app that dabigcheezze recommended and I like that even better than the stock Car Panel mode, especially because it works in landscape. What's great is that you can set it as default over the stock.

wait, so you're saying even without the dock and just using car panel, it won't go into landscape :confused: whaaat? lol

As far as I know, the stock Car Panel mode doesn't go into landscape even with the dock. That's why I downloaded the app that dabigcheezze recommended (which I think is 10X's better than stock because you can add applications and it goes into landscape). I can't remember the exact name, but we talked about it earlier in the thread.
 
working on my unboxing video review and install in car. hopefully i'll be done shortly

edit: conformed. car panel does do landscape. not sure why that wasn't working for some of you but i had absolutely no issues with it going to landscape

Sweet! Thanks for confirming the landscape mode! Still like the other app better because of the customization, but this is definitely good to know in the event I want to revert to the stock version.
 
No. None of the device specific holders are made for use with a case. They are all for naked phones. Your only options are adjustable and universal holders. Answered this many posts ago. Unless you have an iphone, you are screwed out of charging type of cradles unless someone like Seidio decides to make one that compliments their cases.

yeah no problem. the only thing i'll use is straight google navigation. i'll disable the auto-startup of car panel and when i want to use nav just launch the nav app :)

anyone remember what you have to enable in order to get playback of the Evo over usb? mine won't even charge in the car without the dock via usb :confused:

edit: nvm, i did the two things necessary to get it to play and it won't even charge via usb so i'm thinking it's the ROM i'm running that's being screwy. i don't really have time to flash a stock ROM and test again right now. i'll have to get back to this later, maybe a weekend thing.
 
uploading the first part now and will get to a second part over the weekend. i honestly think you should be able to play music via usb while in the car dock, regardless of what other users are claiming. no offense to the other guys, but i always have to try things myself before completely satisfied.

ps. car dock is hands down worth $65. way better than those universal mounts everyone is buying up. so, knock it if ya want, but it's extremely nice.

Oh wait, do you think that your phone being able to use Car Panel in landscape mode has to do with the ROM you're using? I'm on stock Froyo.

Quite certain. It is quite possible to do volume control digitally, but low-end solutions generally sacrifice resolution. Then again, on a low bit rate mp3, it doesn't matter much.

At some point you have to have a DAC. They aren't particularly expensive for a basic Dac. Even top of the line used in high end gear v aren't terribly expensive. In the quantities a company like htc buys in, they will be nominal in cost. Probably a dollar or so.

The dac was likely inside the phone, and split out with the dongle.

i'm not sure. doubtful. the only reason i'm led to believe that with the USB and charging is because strange things happen with my phone when i plug it into a computer or just charge it. for instance, sometimes it takes forever for my phone to even recognize that it's been plugged in to a computer and show the usb symbol in the upper left hand corner. it will say charging but sometimes it can take minutes before it shows up and i can select whether to just charge or mount as disk drive. i probably should've rebooted when going to test but oh well. this weekend i'll load a stock 2.2 ROM and go from there.

ps. about 30min on that vid. flash crashed while uploading to youtube and i had to start over lol. i need to do some updating on my computer.

I'll try to confirm tonight. I'll clear the default for my Car Panel so it gives me a choice between that and Custom Car Home to verify.

I can cofirm that stock car panel app doesn't go into landscape mode when the phone is docked. I'm convinced that's something that's built into the custom rom you're running.

No worries for those of you that have non-rooted/standard froyo 2.2. Custom car home works perfect, can be customized with apps, and goes into landscape mode or portrait

You misunderstood. I specifically said CAR PANEL, as in the front page doesn't go into landscape. Navigation, I've always known works in landscape. That's two separate things...lolol
 
Okay, so for those of you that are interested in an app that automatically adjusts for landscape or portrait mode, unlike the CAR PANEL (not navigation), use custom car home. Much better than stock car panel.

this seems to be a topic of discussion on youtube or the forums everytime i post a vid. it's like no alternative people exist in the world now except me. but i know that's not true...

oh, well you don't even need the car panel app. just disable it launching directly into car panel and use the blue nav arrow. that's what i'll be using over anything. i use it very often, which is why i have it permanently docked on my launcher. i personally don't need a front page UI just to do nav lol
