Accessories EVO car dock now available?

I just bought a EVO car kit from AJ at a Sprint Store in Cincinnati Ohio. The kit was 59.99 and I got screen protectors for FREE. I had a buddy get the package from him and he lived in Florida so i know he will ship it anywhere.

Here's the info if anyones interested.

Call 513-759-5600 opt 1 then 3 ask for AJ. They are open 10-8 M-sat and 12-6 Sun Tell him you want the EVO car kit and screen protector package.

I've been dealing with this guy for years. If he's not available and nobody know what your talking about, have them call him.

I just called this number and ordered mine. I verified that it was the part number posted at the beginning of this thread. I'll feel better about it when it actually shows up but so far so good. PS, you don't have to speak to AJ. He answered the phone and moved me to someone else and it was taken care of.

Have you received your shipment confirmation?

yup, tracking number and all. will be on my doorstep come monday afternoon.
so i'll shoot an unboxing in first part and then hook it up in my car for the second part. second part i'm gonna have to figure out how to get a tripod in there with decent lighting lol

I received mine... I took some pictures of the dock mounted in the car, but not with the EVO in it. I realized that I gave my digital camera to my girlfriend since I found the Evo's camera sufficient for my needs -- soooo, I'll need to find another way to take pictures of the Evo docked.

Some things I noticed... The dock isn't exactly super intuitive. I had to screw around with it for a good 10mins trying to get it position correctly and felt like breaking it a couple times. It is quite study though. I initially tried mounting it on the windshield, but because of how my window slants compared to where the driver sits, I realized that I would have to mount it on the dash to actively use it while driving; otherwise, I would need to lean in very far to reach the screen.

So, I used the 3M dashboard disc and mounted it at the risk of ruining my precious dashboard... Since it is meant to be mounted on dashboards, I'm hoping that the 3M stick crap used on it does not damage leather dashboards. We'll see. *Shrug*

After messing around with it for a bit, I finally got it mounted in a position where I liked it. It looks lightly odd without the evo in it, but rest assure it looks damn pretty when the evo is docked.

On to the pictures:

Did they REALLY block the rear camera? Or is that tab offset enough to miss the camera?

The plastic piece which grips the top of the evo, holding it in place, goes directly down the middle of the evo -- covering the rear camera.

They could have easily curved the plastic piece around the camera so that the lens would not be blocked... I'm fairly sure it is blocking it though I will check again when I leave the office.

When you dock the EVo, does it go into car mode?

A. nice car
b. is it strictly the 3m tape or does it have a suction cup mount?

Thanks! It has the suction cup mount primarily and attached to the base... It also comes with a disc that connects to the base of the dock.

Disc: Side A suction sticks to the mount. Side B is the sticky side and attaches to your dash.

To clarify, you get both windshield and dash mount options.

Here is a picture of the car mode I'm currently using that supports landscape mode (mentioned in my post above).

Does that custom XDA car mode work with stock ROM? Also, can you install widgets? I'm using Custom Car Home, which suits my needs just fine, but would love if there were a car dock mode that could install widget shortcuts.

you couldn't mount it right near your steering wheel on the windshield:confused:
strange. that's exactly where mine's going. the only functionality i want with the car dock is nav. so, get in the car, put the address in, and off i go. def won't need to lean in with that gigantic 4.3" screen...no more than a standard nav. part of the point why i got an Evo lol

it's a couple of apks. should work with any Evo, rooted or not.

ps. i'm gonna play around with my phone a little bit when i get that dock. i bet i can disable it sending the phone into the car dock mode.
why would i want this you ask? we a couple of people wanted to know if you could play music while it's in the dock, and i'm quite certain it won't in car dock mode, but with nav just enabled, it certainly should. i'll be sure to put that in my vid. and if usb playing works, then so will aux in :)

anyone happen to know the name of the app for the stock car panel or whatever? i know there's one called car panel but i don't think that's it, as that lets me view in landscape.

Stock car panel used to be Navigator, but after FROYO got changed to Car Panel. You must have a different one because that one will not go into landscape mode for me.

As far as AUX out, I'd imagine you'd still use the 3.5mm headphone port to connect to AUX inputs on a car stereo, etc...

Makes it a non-starter for me. USB can carry audio, too. htc should carry both charging and audio out to the base, so I don't have to plug or unplug and audio cable every time I put the phone in the car or take it out.

It's nice that the power cable doesn't move around when you rotate the phone, but stupid that the audio cable still does. Too half-a$$sed a solution for $65.

Sad to report, no usb audio, the thing won't let the EVO mount the SD, I'm tryin everything....Nutton, mounts and plays with normal cable sans the dock no problem.

That's actually a great thought and I think would be awesome if HTC could have both outputs available.

-EDIT- Deleted this other question because dabigcheezze answered above.
