Accessories EVO car dock now available?

Does car panel mode not rotate depending on phone orientation?

I've messed with it a few times when I had my phone in a universal car dock, and car panel only seems to display in vertical mode. :confused:

From what I've read, car panel still only displays in portrait mode, not landascape (which I personally think is AWFUL). Instead of using Car Panel, I use LauncherPro for when my phone is docked in the car. I customized LauncherPro specifically for desktop and/or car use and I just switch back and forth from that and SenseUI.

That's my BIGGEST complaint about Sense UI (and no different than the original TouchFlo 3D I used on my Touch Pro). It doesn't go into landscape mode when the phone is rotated. If there's anything I hate about the EVO, that would be it.

Take my advice n get "custom car home".....best dock replacement app out of there imo.
if you search youtube i have a video on there called, EVO dock quick and dirty, my point,I've been using that app for months now and I love it, it does portrait or landscape, 3 pages to customize, its pretty sweet, fyi dock mode is automatically accessed by grounding pin 4 on the micro usb, pin 1 power, pin 5 ground for charging.

Mine just shipped too... Opted for the free 3-5 day shipping but it seems they shipped it 2-day air UPS! Getting it tomorrow.

Does it come with a car charger? I saw the connector in the base, I assume that it only allows for power?

I'm currently using a universal dock, and when I get an incoming call, I'll just answer it using the speaker feature of the phone. The audio plays over my car's speakers (hooked up using the headphone jack), but it's still using the phone's microphone to capture my voice.

It looks like this dock covers up the mic on the phone. Has anyone tried using speakerphone while the phone is in the dock? Does it work?

I used google voice 3 times last night on the way home, worked great,

And no, no charger.

Nice! Thanks for the tip. I'm going to try that out. My dock is scheduled to be here by Monday, but this might come in very handy in the meantime (just to test it out). I've been searching and searching for a car dock mode like this and nobody seemed to talk about an app that did this, so I REALLY appreciate this info. What's the difference between the free and the $1.00 version?

I've gotta say, despite how "cheezzy" you say the setup is, I give you bigtime props for working a "custom" connection by soldering wires and whatnot. Looks like it works great for your car (also makes me want to finally get my DVD double din replacement for my car - I've got a Benz that has the stereo upgrade, so basically PITA to get aftermarket stereo equipment).

Man that dock sure is pretty. Pretty isn't going to cut it though for $65. If it was <$50 I might consider it... oh well, guess its back to shopping aftermarket docks...
 
haven't even gotten a confirmation on my order yet. apparently it's still processing at the warehouse. pretty excited to get it though.

for those of you saying $65 is too much...well imo, you get what you pay for.
 
This isn't sophisticated computer parts or cars, it's plastic phone holders. The official dock price is just gouging because it's "official". If it was $30 - $40, that would be different, $65 is just asinine.

If you have alot of money to spend, then I guess it doesn't matter and you can get whatever you want, but I tend to agree that $60+ is quite overpriced for a car dock; it's essentially the same thing as something like the Arkon mount, you still have to use a car charger in your 12v socket, only it has a custom holder.

Not to sound cocky but i can't believe anyone is pretending to form an opinion about this dock beside me, if you have not held it in your hand and seen the build quality for yourself, then you just don't know , i've been in the car stereo industry for 17 years, so believe me when i say i've seen cheap build quality on numerous products, and i don't think i've ever seen a dock that has more engineering involved, everything, i mean everything about it down to the suction cup that everybody hates is perfect, nothing like a cheap garmin mount or any of the other cheap suction cup mounts, i'm very impressed with its quality, IMO, and i believe mine is the only informed 1 on this forum, 65 dollars is very reasonable. Had to throw in my 2 cents......just wait till they have it in stores go look at it yourself THEN form an opinion.
 
I just bought a EVO car kit from AJ at a Sprint Store in Cincinnati Ohio. The kit was 59.99 and I got screen protectors for FREE. I had a buddy get the package from him and he lived in Florida so i know he will ship it anywhere.

Here's the info if anyones interested.

Call 513-759-5600 opt 1 then 3 ask for AJ. They are open 10-8 M-sat and 12-6 Sun Tell him you want the EVO car kit and screen protector package.

I've been dealing with this guy for years. If he's not available and nobody know what your talking about, have them call him.

My opinion is that $65 is too much to spend on a freaking car mount, I don't care if NASA designed it and it's made out of moon metal. If you're happy with your purchase, then good for you, I'm not cracking on you. I just happen to be a little more budget conscious.

btw, I never said it was a bad mount, only that there's other cheaper options for us po' folk that want an item that holds our phones for us while we're driving.

And to Doyer's point, if you have alot of money, then yeah, get whatever the hell you want. Even if it's designed by NASA and made out of moon metal.
