Accessories EVO car dock now available?

My opinion is that $65 is too much to spend on a freaking car mount, I don't care if NASA designed it and it's made out of moon metal.
LOL!

Some people have no problem spending that much on an "official" accessory, nothing wrong with that if you can afford it. I actually have an Arkon mount myself and quite like it, I think it's well made.

will the evo fit in this with a case on ? ...just got the seidio innocase limited
Yes, it will fit with a case. Another reason why I like it.

My opinion is that $65 is too much to spend on a freaking car mount, I don't care if NASA designed it and it's made out of moon metal. If you're happy with your purchase, then good for you, I'm not cracking on you. I just happen to be a little more budget conscious.

btw, I never said it was a bad mount, only that there's other cheaper options for us po' folk that want an item that holds our phones for us while we're driving.

And to Doyer's point, if you have alot of money, then yeah, get whatever the hell you want. Even if it's designed by NASA and made out of moon metal.

I definitely understand the point you're trying to make about your viewpoint on $65 being expensive for a car mount, but to use the analogy of "po' folk" and also being an EVO owner (paying either $200+ or $300+ up front for a phone) doesn't really equate.

I think it's as simple as this: Those who want to pay the money, so be it. Those who don't, that's fine as well. I think we're getting away from the point though. This thread is geared around the OEM HTC dock, so I'd prefer talking about this dock specifically, rather than the other docks out there or debating about this dock being "too expensive." There are A TON of threads talking about generic docks, if that's what your preference is.

This isn't sophisticated computer parts or cars, it's plastic phone holders. The official dock price is just gouging because it's "official". If it was $30 - $40, that would be different, $65 is just asinine.

Its a dock, not just a holder. Its also a quality holder that is compact. Most of the universal ones are bulky crap. This one also comes with a charger (which those others dont) and it runs the wire through the base of the dock so you dont have to deal with it when undocking/rotating/whatever your phone. $65 is not asinine at all, a little high but given what it comes with and is the officially support one its not asinine at all.

So you could leave this dock in your windshield on trips and just pull the phone when you get out of the car. I will be doing this often as I travel and get rentals. The compactness of it and the fact that I dont have to deal with a cable every time I get in and out of the car makes it worth it to me.

The only thing that seems counter intuitive (and someone else pointed out about docks) is they put the opening on the bottom on the wrong side. It looks like it would cover up the mic so you couldn't use the phone on speaker.

Just called and spoke to Emily. Very nice person and had no problem helping me out. Ordered one up and is on the way to South Florida. Took less than 5 min to place the oreder. Awsome customer service goes out to this store. Huge rep goes out to dabigcheezze!!!!

Even if you love the product, I don't see how you can justify the price tag. As someone said before, its just plastic, it doesn't matter how nice it looks or how well it works.

I just like to spend my money.

Me too!...:D LOL.

I have 4 different cases, 4 extra batteries, 3 different types of screen savers, 3 different types of universal docks, and a bunch of other accessories for the EVO to prove it...hahahaha.

Then why are you using an expensive smartphone? Couldn't you get the same job done with an old Palm Pilot and a Nokia bar phone?

To be fair, people do more with their phones than they would with a phone mount, like email, text, download and use apps, navigation, etc. Spending more on a smartphone makes sense in that context because you're getting much more functionality then with an old dumbphone or Palm OS phone.

With the OEM and aftermarket mounts, you're getting similar or the same functionality, and in some case like the Arkon Mega Grip, more functionality: you can use it with a case, with different phones, and have different mount options.

Because its the best product for my needs, i realize you think your clever thinking this is a serious comparison but it isn't. Just because i bought an expensive phone doesn't mean i throw money around like an idiot on other overpriced products.

okay. if you'd rather not spend a little change on an OEM car dock, there are other threads regarding cheaper docks. no need for you to keep bashing on the subject of this thread or the members who are for it.

it's all a matter of opinion. some people want something that is custom made for our device and don't care the costs, while others would rather have something universal that isn't made for our device that costs less. again, you get what you pay for.

and this particular dock is NOT JUST plastic. the arm isn't plastic (between base and cradle) and the wires that run from the base of the dock to the usb piece are also not plastic.

no need to call people names, either. maybe he's able to throw his money around because he's smart and saved up a ton...

If you have alot of money to spend, then I guess it doesn't matter and you can get whatever you want, but I tend to agree that $60+ is quite overpriced for a car dock; it's essentially the same thing as something like the Arkon mount, you still have to use a car charger in your 12v socket, only it has a custom holder.

Ummm no it's not the same thing as those cheap universal docks. The input for the usb is located at the base. So no cord hanging from your phone.

+1 this is a huge fact most people ignore to argue why it's so expensive. When you copy a generic universal holder and charge much more for it, then people have an valid argument.

idk it looks cool , if i didnt buy the universal one from the sprint store already id prolly get it , but to be honest the universal one i got seriously works great , its very well made , dosnt feel cheap at all , and it can do everything that one can except the charging part , it turns to landscap , holds the phone tight , i think the charger is cool idea , but is 65 more dollars worth me not having to unplug my phone when getting out of the car ....... nope

Anyone have any pics of it setup in a car? From the pics I've seen, it looks like a dash mount? Or a combo dash/window?

I don't want a window mount, but this looks pretty nice and I like that it puts it in car dock mode when plugged in.

I'll take some this afternoon when it comes in the mail.

Then you just answered your own question. Maybe this is the best product for their needs. Sure there are cheaper out there but is there cheaper that does the exact same thing?

If no then its an easy way to justify the cost.

I just bought a EVO car kit from AJ at a Sprint Store in Cincinnati Ohio. The kit was 59.99 and I got screen protectors for FREE. I had a buddy get the package from him and he lived in Florida so i know he will ship it anywhere.

Here's the info if anyones interested.

Call 513-759-5600 opt 1 then 3 ask for AJ. They are open 10-8 M-sat and 12-6 Sun Tell him you want the EVO car kit and screen protector package.

I've been dealing with this guy for years. If he's not available and nobody know what your talking about, have them call him.
Thanks EVOguy1!!!

I just ordered mine from AJ and it should arrive Monday/Tuesday.

I try not to buy the product that will just fulfill my need. In that case I should have just bought some duck tape and attached a coat hangar to my mirror to hold my EVO. I buy the best and usually am quite happy with my purchases. I don't see this as overly expensive because I foresee myself having this phone(or the EVO2???) for a long time. So divided it out amongst the years of service I will get from this it is a bargain. Meanwhile the other yahoo's buy the junk and then it breaks and then they buy another hunk of shiite and it breaks so they buy another etc.
