Root Evo lte...root?

You'll need to use the HTC dev method or automated regawmod rooter.

When I look at all the root guides on the "all things root" I get completely overwhelmed. What is this alternate method? Will this get me to "S-off lazy panda" eventually ? That seems to be what I ultimately need from what I've read.

Unfortunately, no. Hboot 1.15 and up you can't get s-off. But you can still get rooted with the HTC dev method. Basically go to www.htcdev.com and look for unlock bootloader. Select "all other devices" when you can pick your device. Then follow the on screen instructions. This will unlock bootloader. Then you can install TWRP (the custom recovery) via GooManager, an app in the play store. After that flash a rooted ROM and you're done. This will wipe your phone so backup everything.

When looking at that guide, it all depends on your H-boot.

1.12 can get S-OFF via lazypanda
1.15 or 1.19 has to use either HTC dev to unlock the device or the automated regawmod to unlock the device.

Let me ask this... If I get the phone unlocked from htcdev. Com, is it then possible to get lazy panda? I may seem hung up on the lazy panda but it seems to be the most reliable and popular? Am I wrong?

it depends on your hboot. the guide has two sections. one section is for those who can't use lazy panda with hboot 1.15 and 1.19 and the other section is for lazypanda itself with those who have hboot 1.12. please read the guide it will guide you in the right direction.

I would recommend using the HTC Dev method to unlock bootloader. Then fastboot flash the TWRP recovery. Then boot into recovery and nandroid backup your stock ROM. You definitely want to keep that nandroid backed up on your computer, Dropbox or wherever. Wipe everything then boot back into bootloader. Unzip the CM10 ROM and fastboot flash the kernel. Boot into recovery. Flash CM10 zip then reboot. That's essentially the process that has worked for me 3 times now on 3 differently Evo LTE's. If any of this confuses you check here:

Ok I've had it, I will be rooting tonight. I would like to get the CM10 rom that came out. Any suggestions?

so like rxpert said i would wait just a bit to root as the devs are about to release an s-off tool that will work on the most current hboots.

keep an eye out for this thread: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte...-sprint-htc-evo-4g-lte-hboot-1-15-1-19-a.html

also if you feel like you want to still root, here is the guide: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte...panda-s-htc-dev-ltevo-root-dummies-guide.html

and if you want to downgrade your hboot to get fully s-off then here is the thread you want to follow: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte-all-things-root/631375-downgrade-h-boot-1-15-1-19-s-off.html

and lastly with a rooted phone that is s-on but unlocked, you need to read this: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte-all-things-root/606748-how-install-kernels-h-boot-1-15-a.html

but the above threads might not be necessary when the new root tool gets released.

Thanks guys, I don't mean to seem lazy. I have Googled and searched around and found most of the information however I just get overwhelmed with the info and what order it should go in.

So I download the GooManager before I root? Then root, then flash the TWRP?

yep you got it. or you can follow what is in the guide. either way works, but you need to unlock first and then get recovery.

i totally understand. the info out there can be overwhelming. but lucky for you, you have AF!!!!!;):D

sorry i know, i can't read. LOL

so you want to unlock the phone, get recovery by either goomanager or by what is in the guide and then flash cm10.

Download the TWRP file then follow the instructions I posted above. Those instructions will get you to have an unlocked bootloader and running CM10 and be rooted and have TWRP recovery. They will leave you s-on, but you don't have any choice on that front yet. The biggest pain in the butt about being s-on is having to fastboot flash your kernels.
