Ok folks if you do not know this then here it is Sprint and clearwire have made a deal with intel to get out of the wimax market and they are switching over to LTE enf of 2011. SO beware all evo phones are going to be worth *$$$%$*%%&. in a few month.
Also for your info. Verizon will be out with 4g data modems 4th quater and 4g phones 1 qtr. 2011, ALso thge 4g network for veriuzon is just about ready to be turned on. and will be for data by the end of the year at least I know in the SF bay area. So 4g on verizon. y bother with who knows where sprint is going wimax
This is first hand info from my close friend on the top rung of the ladder there.
That will certainly rock the world of the tech and financial analysts that have agreed that it would be clearly profitable and technically doable to support both LTE and WiMAX networks as a result of any merger&acquisition (m&a) activity, rather that for the end entity to fallow the WiMAX capabilities.
In fact, those analysts have noted that that would be most advantageous to them to focus their investment returns that way while combatting AT&T.
Those analysts influence Wall Street and investors influence how easily this m&a activity can go.
Frankly, your friend's statements sound more like a poison pill - capable of damaging the lesser entity's reputation, reducing demand, and thereby depressing the stock value - very good targets to have in either event of the m&a succeeding or failing.
It doesn't reflect what accountants prefer - and accountants largely control m&a activities.
No intention of slagging you nor calling your friend disingenuous - I simply find the assertion very difficult to believe.
Meanwhile -
Clearwire May Dump WiMAX
However - changing an agreement with Intel might not be as easy as that article suggests.
Intel writing massive check for Sprint-Clearwire WiMAX deal
That shows Clearwire with $2.6 BBBBillion dollars of Intel's money in their pockets (as of more that two years ago) - much as they'd like to make Intel look bad on this one, the fossil record says otherwise.
And if what your friend says comes to pass and everyone else's opinion is wrong - the Evo will be no less worthless than any other non-LTE phone.
How many of those exist - ah - zero in the US.
Verizon launching up to five LTE phones by mid-2011 - FierceWireless
And before we get into how LTE is true 4G while WiMAX is not - uh....
iPhone 4 Is Not 4G Phone; LTE And WiMAX Are Not Yet 4G Technology
From TFA:
The "True" 4G Technology
However, so-called 4G technologies, including LTE (Long Term Evolution), WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) and UMB (Ultra Mobile Broadband), are just networking service projects proposed to ITU (International Telecommunication Union) to be defined as 4G technologies. To be accorded the official designation of 4G, the transmission speed has to reach the requirement of 100Mbps (mobile networks) and 1 Gbps (fixed networks).
So far the above so-called 4G technologies have not yet fully complied the transmission requirements of 4G standard, and should be called 3.9G, or pre-4G technologies, ITU noted.
ITU has received six technology submissions and is currently in the evaluation process for determining which can be qualified as true 4G technology. The determination will be made in October 2010, according to ITU's earlier announcement.
I'd like to be right out front on that one - as I keep hearing another myth about this merger - that LTE is 4G, WiMAX is not.
That's more Kool Aide.
<--- see? no tongue!
