Evo Shift?

I'm not surprised. The original Snapdragon could, in extreme cases, reach 1.5ghz. The new Snapdragons are 45nm, which means higher potential overclock. Granted, most original Snapdragons only reached 1.1-1.2ghz. A 1.3.1-4ghz OC isn't unreasonable on these new SOCs.

i would love to push my EVO to 1500 mhz!!!
current it only does 1190 mhz (stable)

I hope some Dev can do it soon .. and stable of course.

No dock yet, just a couple cases and about a million screen protectors. I don't think HTC has ever made a dock for a slider, but I could be wrong. I will post here with updates.

HTC made one for the Touch Pro. Only reason I know is because I had one.

Does anyone know if phones such as the Evo Shift wth physical qwerty keyboards also have onscreen touch keyboards to use if you don't slide the keyboard out? Thanks.

If someone needs to have a physical keyboard, I would get the Epic over the Shift. The Shift is a step down from the EVO in almost every way from what I can see.

Not necessarily, depends on what matters to the individual. The EVO has the better camera (including a FFC) and bigger screen. The Shift has the newer processor and GPU.

looks can be very deceiving...that 5mp cam and 800mhz processor are more capable than what their labels suggest. I don't know yet that I would call the EVO's camera better... I would have to see some comparisons. Now if HTC and Sprint could send us some updates to the cam software, I might then agree that the Evo camera is the bestest

The Evo Shift is practically a slightly watered down G2 (Tmobile)...

I use this site when comparing phones.

Sprint HTC EVO Shift 4G (HTC Knight) Specs | Technical Specifications | PDAdb.net - Comprehensive Database of Smartphone, PDA, PDA Phone, PNA, netbook & Mobile Device Specifications

T-Mobile G2 (HTC Vision) Specs | Technical Specifications | PDAdb.net - Comprehensive Database of Smartphone, PDA, PDA Phone, PNA, netbook & Mobile Device Specifications

The Shift's CPU still isn't as fast as the Evo's, but is better on battery useage. The Shift's GPU though is nearly twice as fast as the Evo's.
I believe you know your stuff but I disagree that it isnt as fast. I have used the EVO and G2 (Shift or close to it) and the G2 is soo much smoother and faster. Granted the EVO uses Sense but being that I root and overclock the Shift is gonna whoop on the EVO IMO. Just my 2 cents

Do you think the shift will have a hdmi out?

Feel and actual performance are two different things. Now, being on a smaller process (45nm vs. 65nm), the Shift's CPU will overclock faster than the Evo's (unless you get a lemon). The software difference you're seeing is the New Sense (which was confirmed on HTC's Spanish Twitter as coming to the Evo and Incredible, but nothing official since).

Here's some attachments based on an article I'm writing for another website. The full article MAY end up on Phandroid, we'll see. This small glimpse of the article compares 3 SOCs;

Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD 8x60 (N1, Desire, Evo, Incredible, etc.)
Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM 7x30 (Desire Z, G2, Shift, Merge)
Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM 8x55 (Desire HD, MyTouch 4G, Thunderbolt)

As you can see, there is roughly a 20% difference in performance between the Evo's CPU and the Shift's. This is because of a 20% difference in clock speeds (using 1ghz as the base). The same is true of the 2D chart because 2D operations in Android are not GPU accelerated (unless purposely written to be). The GPU difference is huge because the Evo uses the Adreno 200, while the Shift uses the Adreno 205.

So, why does the Desire HD's CPU seem to edge out the Evo's, despite same clock speed? Due to the fact that I can't control all variables (like I can on a PC benchmark), I'm stuck with what's on the phone. All phones using the MSM 8x55 have 768MB of RAM. Seems Android might be feeling a bit RAM starved, because all of the benchmarks got a slight boost, even the GPU benchmark.

I really wish this was the Evo was originally in the slider form.

Sprint HTC EVO? 4G

That's a much better form IMO. Texting/typing is quite annoying with the current Evo.

Too bad I can't upgrade until June! I'm disappointed that HTC still hasn't come up with a camera lens cover for it yet. They also got rid of the kickstand!

I was able to handle the EVO4G Shift at a RadioShack today.

It felt MUCH BETTER than the Samsung Epic in that the keyboard is not sloppy. It has a nice firm slide to it which is lacking in the Epic.

That being said, the screen is noticibly smaller.

The Radioshack guy saw me playing with the EVO Shift, and asked me if I was ready for a phone upgrade. I told him the Shift would be a DOWNGRADE...to his surprise, he asked me what I had...

I pulled out the "Big Boy" EVO and showed him...and he smiled...

For what its worth, 3 guys at my work have the "Big Boy" Evo and all 3 complain about its battery life. I have the Hero and another guy has the Epic. We all have the same few basic apps (facebook, pandora etc). In a side by side comparison opening apps, playing video (youtube) etc the Epic blows them all away in every test. Plus its screen is 100 times better looking and battery life is the best in the bunch. This may not be a "phone guru" test, but its a real world test for what most people do with their phones, and the Epic out shined them all.

I dont mind the look and feel of the Epic actually. And Ive had 2 Samsung phones before and they were bullet proof. I hate my HTC Hero, does nothing but lag and screw up. Glad my 1 yr is up on it so I can upgrade.

i got a chance to play with one (currently have the evo) i personally love it. it feels alot more natural to use and the keyboard is way easier to type on than the epic, which i used for a few weeks before going with the evo. i wish sprint used sim cards, i'd pick one up and swap between this and my evo depending on needs. the evo can't be beat for browsing and reading. but the shift would work better for me as a phone/daily use because of the ease with which i can handle it and reach the buttons.

1.. google ... live it, love it. you can pop back and forth between phones and your contacts. schedules, and apps can be synced.

2. sprint.. allows you to swap phone online... you can have several phones on your profile account. just swap them anytime you what.
