EVO vs. iPhone 3GS

My main homescreen has 4 x 4 = 16 icons. My old iPhone has 4 x 5 = 20 icons. Is there a way to add more icons to my main screen without rooting the EVO?

The Multicon widget is bit of a pain to use actually. Lacks some flexibility I want and is very "labor-intensive" to do the most basic things...and also can't do some of the things like adding certain types of widgets.

Dont use multi-icon or whatever.
I hate that, its a pain in the ass.

If you use launcherpro, you can choose how many rows and columns there are.
But one thing to remember, any widgets are going to be resized as well.
You get past this by, TA DA!, spending money.
Get launcher pro + and there is a re sizing tool.

So you make your icons fit (change it from 4 by 4 to 4 by 5) but it will make your widgets smaller as well, so then you just resize the widgets back up and it will look normal.
Launcher pro is free and the plus is $1.99.

It also has some pretty cool widgets that are "sense-like", but if you already have sense then its useless.
Well, they have a couple that arent on sense i think.

..yeah..

LOL...I"m actually VERY tach savvy! However, when I have to sit and 'think' about something too long...it's too complicated, period.

You may be "tach" savvy, but are you "tech" savvy? Seems like not. :D

There is a learning curve with any new system. Android, iOS, BlackBerry, Symbian, WP7, whatever. That's on you if you're not up to date with knowledge when you buy a new phone. I went from 8+ years on BlackBerry to WebOS and found it all very intuitive. Going to Android was even easier. If you're struggling, "thinking too long" about a basic feature, maybe you should be using something easier like an old Moto flip phone.

I bought the Iphone4, it was super easy to use. loved the camera, video, facetime and the size. Ok so I switched to the Sprint Evo because of the cost. My friend works for sprint & got me a deal of $47 a month unlimited everything, compared to $95.00 for the iphone with limited everything.

I'm not a tech savy person, but I think the Evo is complicated and the camera sucks compared to the Iphone. I don't expect a great camera on my phone. ( I have a DSLR) But the Evo takes horrible pictures. I have been playing with the settings for days. Hands down does not compare to the pictures and and easy to use camera on the Iphone4. I have a baby so I expect at the very least to be decent for a quick picture when I'm out of my house. The Evo is huge so if you have small hands like I do, you might want to consider that before buying it. It's heavy and bulky.

I'm sure the Evo is great for someone who wants to spend lots of time figuring out the thing, messing with the camera, and has large hands. For me I just want something easy. The Iphone was so easy from the start. I'm suck with the Evo because of the price.

^^^ hi and welcome to the forum...

Hi, I apologize that the Evo has a terribly complicated camera. You see after pressing the "camera" app, there is a complex series of steps you have to follow:

1)point
2)shoot

I hope this helps.

And yes, you ARE suck with the Evo.

and that's the key...you bought this phone for it's plan price through your friend...not the huge list of features and capabilities that it has

iphones (in somes opinion) are oversimplified and overpriced and lack in the capability department.

I have always given them credit for the closed system approach. everything just works (for the most part)

and for some that is perfect...for others it isn't.

if you are stuck with the evo I say dive in...you don't really have a choice. once you get it all set up to your liking and take some time to learn to use it you might actually like it.

any relation? lol

one thing I have not suggested in that thread is to change the review duration. it was terribly long for my liking. while your cam is open press menu, press on the gears looking thing and change the review duration to a lower setting.

look online at some basic camera taking techniques and iso settings. check out the pics thread too http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-4g/91698-show-us-what-pictures-videos-youve-taken-6.html

i do have to ask ..why the evo? sprint has multiple android phones that would have cost less and are much smaller

I have seen folks struggle with the iphone when they first pick it up,with that said i don't see any phone complicated to use.Anyone put in the time and work will figure out how to operate a phone. The EVO camera is not as bad as you make it out to be,go look as some of the pictures folks here have taken. The iphone i have always said to be a good device but its not blowing away any of the top android smart phones ,the EVO can hang with any phone out there including the over hype iphone.
