Root [EXPLOIT] Root DX GB without 2-part or AIO TBH files....One-click method now included!!!

Ok, a lot of things are in the shell or system group. I had to delete the symlink to su and add it again in the adb shell.

This isn't an elegant fix, but it works. I couldn't just chgrp to root as it said it couldn't find a group root.

Now are all the busybox symlinks supposed to be in the shell group?

Nice! I saw this method for the D3 early but didn't even think about trying it on a
dx! that's awesome.

Should be waaaay less that that...the exploit is dead-simple.

The exploit itself involves adb, but should not actually require adb to implement.

If this isn't published by someone by Sunday, I'll write the .apk myself ;).

You have to give me a lesson/tutorial on how to compile/create apps one of these days. Are you using eclipse or linux?

I love the way Dan Rosenberg was like, "someone asked me to take a look at the Droid 3, xyz, here it is rooted." LOL.

You bet, Bo, I'd be happy to. :)

Java is not my forte' and I'm still learning things about the Android programming infrastructure, but its certainly fun and rewarding to do.

I'm using Eclipse...(and I actually started working on this "little project" last evening ;)...stayed-up way later than I planned or should have; I'm guessing someone will beat me to it, but its fun playing around with this).

Cheers!

You know what's really nice? No more SBF'ing to Froyo! Now we can SBF to 596 (I don't think there's a 602 out) and then root!

Have to say that today has been a good day so far. We have a one-click root for the X on GB and my fiancee told me earlier that my 2 Touchpad 32GB versions were delivered today :D:D:D

Only wish it was Friday so I could start play with my Touchpads sooner with no interruptions :D

Touchpads? You must be one of the reasons I got my order canceled from barnes and noble

The driver updates are for 64 bit machines (and I assume Windows 7). I am on XP so do I need to worry about updating drivers

So hang on, according to previous posts, this roots your phone without root functions?? What's the point in that? How do you get all the root functions to work?

G. Armour,

Where did anyone say no root functions? I used this last night, and I can do whatever I want to my phone now

It looks like it has root, but a lot of root functions dont seem to work. Titanium, wireless tether, bootstrap.

And here

But if it works 100%, I'm all for it!

Well, I've been looking at this (and working on an app shell for implementing this) and I believe that you don't need adb to implement the actual exploit, but you do need adb in order to actually install the su program via an "adb shell" (which is what really counts, after all).

Dan Rosenberg's brilliant exploit allows adb (and a shell that it invokes) to retain root privileges after the exploit's second reboot. Unfortunately, I don't (yet) know how to emulate the adb client (that runs on your PC) to run on the phone and still talk to the adb daemon (adbd) that actually does run on the phone (i.e., both the client and server running on the phone).

So, I'm left with an app that will take you half the way (i.e., implementing both of the first two GB/adb exploits), but most likely (at this point, at least) will still require that you run something from your PC (to finish getting the root tools (su/busybox/Superuser.apk)) installed.

More research to do, I guess...

Cheers!

I ran into a odd problem while running this, everytime it said rebooting phone, it would kick me into my bootloader, I had to unplug it, pull the battery, press the power button, then as the phone rebooted I plugged it in. It still worked and rooted the phone, but I don't understand why it did that.. Anyone else had this happen, or did I miss something?
