Help Facebook sync is getting on my nerves!

I did everything NKT said and now it's telling me I have no FB contacts. If I let it sync the first time it adds everyone. If I use the NKT method, when I manually update my contacts and hit the FB app...no one in my list. Also is there another app icon for FN for sense?

I think we found a better method than unchecking sync contacts. Once you set up your FB for HTC Sense in the Accounts & Sync section, just go into contacts and hit menu -> view. You can then uncheck FB. You may still have to manually link your phone contacts to the FB contacts.

Are you saying once you're not seeing any contacts after setting up FB for HTC Sense?

So I should let them sync the first time I set it up? When I am setting it up. I'm not letting the app sync my contacts. My FB contacts aren't appearing in the people tab, but if i hit the phone tab, behind the keypad has every contact.

Yes, after setting up FB for HTC Sense let it do the full sync. You should see all your FB contacts in the People app. Then just uncheck FB contacts in the view menu.

You should be able to manually link only the contacts you want between your phone and FB.

I appreciate the help NKT! But this is a little different problem. I am talking about when I hit the phone touch button at the bottom of the home screen. When I do the dialer comes up with contacts behind them. When I turn the dialer off...ALL my contacts are still there....they aren't in my people tab...but they are all behind the dialer.

Did you verify the view settings in the People app?

I'm trying to make sure I'm understanding what your end goal is. Do you want all your FB contacts in People?

No.

and I don't want them in the list behind the phone dialer, when I hit the phone button. In people they have a separate directory for my original phone contacts and one for FB. When I touch the phone dialer everything all contacts are combined. I ONLY want the original phone book contacts behind the dialer.

I don't know if it's possible to filter out the FB contacts in the dialer. I'll do some digging.

But I have to ask, if you don't want them in People or in the dialer, why set up FB for HTC Sense?

Because i'm sure what I'm doing..lol I just want them separate from myphone book.

Isn't the point of the FB for HTC Sense so your friends in Facebook are in the "Friend Stream" ? I don't really want to screw around with trying to keep certain contacts in people and certain in dialer, but I thought it was necessary if I want to be able to utilize Friend Stream... is this the case?

JMK: I had the same exact problem...I eventually had to just erase them from my Facebook profile. They are linked in your Friends list under "Phonebook". Anyone that has a mobile number in their profile will automatically be linked.

So u had to disable facebook?

I am looking for the same information .... alot of my facebook friends with phone numbers, I do not call.

Its not a big deal but I am used to scrolling through my contact list to make a call and when I click the phone icon, the dialer shows EVERYONE including my Facebook only contacts whom most I don't have a desire to call .... As a workaround, I could choose menu and go to People and there are my typical contacts OR I could just do a search from the dialer screen, so there ARE workarounds or new ways I could do things, but I view that as adding extra steps to the process of making a phone call ....

Let me see if I understand this:

I do not want ANY of my Facebook Phonebook contacts synced, I ONLY want to LINK my existing contacts to their FB and have access to their profiles and such and such without going to the FB app.

I already de-selected the check mark for "Sync Contacts" under FB for HTC Sense settings, but that seems to do nothing.

My end goal is to have NO FB PHONEBOOK numbers/emails when I try to send a text message to somebody in my contacts (I only want to send a txt to my contacts, not anyone in my FB phonebook). Same goes for the phone and phone dialer. In order to search for a name I don't want to have to go through FB contacts I don't want to see.

In order to get all this done, do I have to "Remove Account" on FB/HTC settings? And then reactivate it WITHOUT syncing contacts?

I assume all the links I spent an hour manually selecting (b/c phone only did like 5) would have to be reselected?

Thanks for your help. This is really frustrating for me.

EDIT: When I go into "add new account" under accounts and sync, I see both "Facebook" and "Facebook for HTC Sense". FB for HTC is the one checked and syncing. Is this the problem? Should I sync with the other one? Will I still have the same features (I don't use friend stream) that I have with HTC's?

There should be sticky on this or something because it is confusing. I have the exact same question so hopefully someone can answer it.

True. I may email HTC about it lol. I thought the problem would be solved by deactivating and reactivating without sycning contacts, but somebody said they synced anyways the second they manually linked their first contact.

So now I'm thinking it's a Facebook for HTC Sense vs. Facebook thing.

I played around a little bit. I removed the Facebook for HTC Sense account and then added it back while unchecking contacts. As a result only my phone/gmail contacts show in the dialer.

I went into my "dialer list" and chose a contact and then chose link to Facebook, but it did not show any of my friends and a search was unsuccessful so I must be missing something.

I wonder if there is a way to use Facebook for HTC Sense and simply hide or delete contacts from the dialer?

UPDATE: I am at work so trying to resist playing around with the phone but it seems that the dialer list is meant to hold call histories. When the phone initially syncs with Facebook it brings forward EVERYONE as previously mentioned.

I accidently called one of my Facebook only friends and quickly disconnected. After long-clicking on the contact was an option to remove from call history and then they were essentially deleted from my dialer list. I don't know if they would reappear after the next sync or not but it appears a way to get people off the dialer list is to quickly call/disconnect and then "delete call history" for that contact. Currently unverified though.

Good work. Let's hope clearing the call history works.
