Root [FAQ-GUIDE] ClockWorkMod Optimus Elite

Have you checked if busybox is located in /system/xbin or /system/bin?

Does busybox have the correct permissions set? should be (rwsr-xr-x)

I tried to check, but I don't know what the file name is. There is too many files in the bin folder. The xbin only has three files.

The apps in the market are not busybox. They are busybox installers. You have to install the installer from the market and actually run it and tell it to install busybox.

I am so glad Pune got it going. You helped me root the sprint version before anyone else, so I hope by doing that, it gave you the info you needed to get everything working. I am going to install cwm tonight and see what damage I can do, lol, or not do. Has anyone tried any of the roms yet? Any worth while?

Ditto, dont know why I have two accounts on the forums. All the same, like I said in previous post.

OK, Im stuck already. I can not  get my MSL number with any of the methods decribed. I tried the aLogcat method, the win7 method, I even resorted to calling Sprint, and they A-Holes:mad: wouldnt come up off of it. I even lied and told them I was a dev and needed it, then tried the ol' need to reset my phone trick, of course that didnt work.... so... if anyone can helpme out here I would appreciate it!!:D
Is it even needed to install CWM?
WASSUP HASHTAG########!!!!:stupido:

MacFett is correct. Also, you can install one of giantpune's custom kernel boot images and that will provide an easy way to obtain your MSL.

You might want to add a few things to this guide.

1) When making a Nandroid backup, if you do not have an external SD card, you have to backup to internal memory. The default backup option doesn't work in that case.

2) You probably should copy the contents of "clockworkmod/backup/date" to your PC.

3) Busybox and Superuser take a little more effort to install than just downloading the app to your phone.

Looking forward for some of the Android 4+ ROMs that will likely be available.

Before anyone makes mention of it - yes, I am aware that there is a new build of CWM. No, I'm not updating the FAQ just yet to include as I am awaiting more feedback that it all works properly before including it.

@MStreeter - I appreciate the feedback. As far as the backup process is concerned, I would be very surprised if anyone still (I only knew of one user) backs up to internal alone. It's too small, and many will, and should, back up to their external sd card if one is available. If not, then it becomes apparent (and something they could do easily on their own) that they can only backup to internal. This is an option in the backup menu, and should be relatively straightforward. Nonetheless, I may include the tip. Thank you.

Number 2 is not necessary, though is partially common sense (though I personally haven't just because I have no need to). And some of us, surprisingly, do not have a computer (or at least one readily available, or a Mac but those aren't computers - just expensive paperweights).

And number 3 on that list is on such a basic level of cognitive functioning and processing, the basic building blocks of common sense, that if someone is on this forum looking to install CWM and cannot figure out that in order to get an app to function, you have to tap it and run it, then they shouldn't be reading this FAQ.

As I said, under Recommended, entry #3: Basic cognitive function. Lol.

EDIT: Yeah, if you couldn't tell, I've thought about including those things before.

I flashed the recovery then manually booted into it. It CWM flashed so I rebooted out so out to download harmona. Booted back in later and now it's back to the stock recovery. Did I do something wrong?

After installing CWM, but before powering off/rebooting, you need to either rename or delete the following file:

/system/etc/install-recovery.sh

So, rename it to install-recovery.sh.bak or just delete it. If you don't, the stock recovery will be restored on the next boot.

Its about my 5th time flashing the recovery - all steps thoroughly taken from stock OE elite- root done through poot/ministroII. Currently running Harmonia 2.03 - changing immedietly to anything else. probably tagged - F**k google wallet.

anyway upon flashing CWM check sum matched**

I boot in and have no access to sdcard yet there is a special entry (install from "internal" sdcard at the bottom - rather then using install from sdcard..

well the main issue is making backups / restore > I try and it says cant mount sdcard - as well as trying the first entry " same response "

but the last entry "install from INTERNAL sdcard" allows me to install roms = backing up still an issue ..

Ill flash again but i feel that i may be using a microwave soon to flash this.

LMAO upon finally opening my optimus elite and checking the sdcard slot "assuming it came with a 2gig I saw nothing ... which flicked a huge switch in my head- the manufacturer put a permanent sdcard(like a harddrive) storage on the phone as well as an internal mem bank. with the ov i had only the internal mem bank > now I got this > Taking 8gb sd from ov > O E =)

Total commander won't let me rename or delete install-recovery.sh
am I doing something wrong?
