Root [FAQ]ROOT MEMORY: a2sd+ / partitions (updated 10th August 2011)

App2SD is not working though "quick system info" and "Titanium Backup" shows ext3 partition is okay.
In Titanium Backup it is showing 1.05GB (1.01GB free) in a2sd partition. If I apply move to SD a app it goes from internal memory to sdcard (FAT32)

Current ROM: GV 2.3
SD card: 16G (1GB ext3)

So you have a partition, but you also need an a2sd+ script to automatically move apps to the ext partition.

If you're using any method to "move to SD" manually, you are moving it to FAT32.

On GV, you are using the Dark Tremor script (which as mentioned in post 1 of this thread) does not move dalvik-cache. All your apps must be on internal memory so install location default needs to be set to "internal" and all apps on "SD" need to be manually moved back.

Then, you can move the dalvik-cache by issuing the terminal commands as mentioned in post, where dark tremor is mentioned.

Have a read of the FAQ again please because your post indicates you may have missed some things.

Hello

I'm currently using Cyanogen 7.0.3.

Following your instructions I backed up the SD card to PC.

Moved all apps that were installed on the SD card onto the internal memory. Total: 147.62mb, Avail: 16.32mb

Used Rom manager to create a 512mb partition the the card with Swap = 0.

After reboot, downloaded Quick System Info to check if it had worked - A2SD Total: 458mb, Free: 426mb.

I assume this means it has..?

Checked internal memory again and my available memory hasn't changed.. Still 16mb.

Why hasn't it auto moved my apps to the ext partition? Please let me know where I've gone wrong.

Thanks

use S2E app from market for cynaogen to move apps/dalvik ;)

Hello

This may not end well. ROM Manager is a crappy software. Use Gparted instead to create a proper ext3 partition.
BTW 512MB seems not enough, so I'd suggest to make that 1GB.

Hi All,

I'm trying to use A2SD+ buy following the guide to install Darktremor by their method from their facebook page:

"backup your sd card to your computer. I can't stress this enough, as
partitioning will wipe the entire card.
Reboot into recovery
In android system recovery, select partition sdcard
In the partition sdcard menu, select partition sd
Follow the instructions on the phone to partition your sd card. You can optionally set
a swap file while you are partitioning your sd card.
In the partition sdcard menu, select sd:ext2 to ext3. Follow the instructions on the
screen.
Only perform this step if you want ext4 and your rom supports it: in the
partition sdcard menu, select sd:ext3 to ext4. Follow the instructions on the sdcard.
Press the back button on the phone to go back to the main menu.
Put the Darktremor file on the sd card (and all your other files you backed up earlier)
by selecting usb-ms toggle and transfer the files to your computer.
In recovery, select flash zip from sdcard.
In flash zip from sdcard, select the Darktremor package file you downloaded earlier. Press
home (or Power Button for newer phones) to flash.
Reboot phone."

Right now, I'm stuck on the partition part. There's no such option in my recovery!!!

AmonRA recovery can partition sd cards, but not the version of clockwork that most of us use (2.5.0.7).

Go to the first post of this thread, select the a2sd+ guide, and there's a step-by-step to partitioning with GPartEd.

Not what I wanted!

Did everything, now after restarting, the phone is stuck in a loop with the HTC splash screen reappearing all the time!! :-(

Can you give me some information?

What rom are you installing Dark tremor on? (name and link if not well known)
So you followed the gparted steps in post 1?

Well,

All my time wasted then.

Simply because I misread the very first statement from Darktremor:

NOTE: ROMS THAT ARE ORM (ORIGINAL ROM FROM MANUFACTURER...ALSO KNOWN
AS STOCK ROMS) WILL NOT RUN ANY VERSION OF APPS2SD EXCEPT FROYO.

I read this to mean that if I was not running Froyo, I would not be able to use their code.

Now I understand that they really meant that the only version of A2SD I can is is the (junky one) one included in Froyo!!

Thankfully my backups were fine!!!

I really cant be bothered flashing to a complete new rom, and installing all my programs and settings all over again!!! Is there really no way I can get A2SD+ on my stock (rooted) Orange ROM?

Please somebody tell me that I can!! I am going nuts with the time it takes my phone to find my apps after disconnecting the SD card.

no there isnt, you need to flash a rom with init.d support and a stock rom doesnt have one
you can get modified versions but you would still need to flash it and would probably require a wipe

Yes you can but its not easy. You have to add init.d support to the rom. Again, post 1 of this thread covers that

Edit@ Rasta, you can add init.d support but IMHO its not worth it.

IMHO its not worth doing anything with an Orange rom anyway

Because?

Is there an easy way to get my programs and settings back without doing them all one by painfull one?

Sorry, I missed the section on init in your your brilliantly detailed guide!!

Orange roms are messy and they're unfortunately always the worst branded ones. They mess with stuff. Turn things off and things like that...

You can use titanium backup to backup user apps with data. Then you just need to backup contacts (google is better) and sms if you need (I use sms backup+ to backup to gmail)...

If you dont buy Titanium backup pro (best purchase you will make) then you still have to press "instalL" for every app but if you pay, it shoots through them all

I already have it installed but not the paid for version. Do I understand you correctly that I can restore almost everything with one click with the paid for version?

Also, which ROM would you suggest that I try using?

Yeah with titanium on free version, if you restore everything, you have to press install to each app, but with paid, it just does everything.

It depends what rom you want. There are gingerbread sense roms, non-sense ones, mixed sense ones... all sorts,

I like the non sense ones personally, but cannot recommend as its too subjective.

One thing to note with titanium, you cant restore system apps and data across different roms so its best to only "restore missing apps with data" and untick all the ones that look like system apps.

Theres a still a bit of work (Homescreens mainly) but in the longrun it will be worth it.

All roms are here:

Hi,

I installed A2SD+ Bravo version of RCMix S 2.0, with a 1GB EXT3 partition.
I verified that the A2SD+ worked by checking in Quick Info. (Besides, I have already a lot of apps that would have made the stock ROM complain. :) )

Anyway, I noticed something. In Quick System Info, my free Internal Storage is reported as 65MB. SD & phone storage also report the same amount.
However, the "All" tab of the "Applications->Manage applications" reports my free internal storage to be 94MB.

I also noticed that after installing a new app, the free internal memory reported by the "All" tab goes down to a value similar to what Quick System Info reports, then after around 5 seconds, goes back to 94MB.

Which value should I trust?

Thanks!

Eric
