Im one of the few salesman out there, that Ive seen, that actually beleives in qualifying people for items. Now im not gonna get into it because everyone has different opinions, but you need to find which phone will honeslty make you life easier. In this case your just debating phones with all the same capabilities, but maybe one does it better. In my mind, the DInc is the best phone ever released, Verizon or not, hands down best phone ever made. But goto any other phone forum on this site and your gonna hear other ppl say the same about their phones. So i guess it comes down to preference. Hope this helps

Awesome. Well that actually helps a lot. Ive been arguing SO much with myself over the X and Incredible, and honestly I REALLY love the Droid X, but the damn thing just feels so awkward. Im a pocket phoner so the X just doesnt really work for me, plus the size is almost TOO big. My father owns one so ive spent a LOT of time messing with it. The Incredible on the other hand, ive spent literally NO time with, but Im almost certain I like it more. Again I think I just need some REAL time alone ;) with the incredible and see how it really is. I know all of this stuff on paper, but have yet to actually hold the device for more than a few seconds.

Fantasy world? better display, better media feature set, better GPU function- how is that fantasy?

The stigma for Samsung is their even-worse-than-HTC efforts for pushing updates. Question would be how long for Samsung to actually push 2.2 to carriers. I doubt it will be as quick as Samsung implied.

Galaxy S with a 2.2 Lite and user option for plain, Sense, Wiz, etc would be a pretty powerful device option for users.

lol?

Your in a fantasy world if you think the Galaxy is better then the DInc. And i am touching the galaxy right now. Who has talked about the Galaxy without touching it? Who even said I-phone? Must be too early or something because your post makes little to no sense.

There are more than enough benchmarks that attest to the hardware superiority of the Galaxy S. Simple google search should turn up plenty of information for you

Besides being faster (better processor, better GPU), the Galaxy S has a much nicer screen. You might not agree, but 99% of the people who have held both say that the Super AMOLED is noticeably better.

The DInc and the X are the same phone with a little different look, and different screen size

If you want to nitpick, the few things you say are, I guess, true. Better display, sure, bigger yes. Size is a big factor in consumer purchases. Better media features? Uhhh whats wrong with the Incredibles media features? I havent seen anyone complain about anything media wise with the Inc.
Nor have I seen anyone complain about the speed or performance of their Inc.
So sure, put 2.2 on the Galaxy, remove Bing as primary engine, make sure it has flash, and put more internal memory on it, and call it a better phone than the DInc. Until then, you can give small reasons why the Fascinate is "better" but it simply does not have the features to support your points. You notice how HUGE of a deal flash player was for people. Its the whole reason 2.2 was pushed out basically. And to release a phone without the best version? Thats like making a Bentley with a 4cylinder engine. Sure its real nice and has a lot of awesome features, but its a 4banger..Why would you do that? Oh wait, gas mileage..here comes more arguments lol

I said 10x it has a nicer screen and the processor is GOOD. The thing is, the Inc processor is just as good. Regardless of what you say spec wise, there are no performance issues with the DInc, short of battery life. Yes battery life is a very big issue, but if you are a smartphone user and you cant accept your battery being crap, go get a Lg Accolade.

Your points are driven mainly by subjective opinion. The issue was comparing the Galaxy to the Inc. Galaxy wins in regards to hardware. The subjective perspective can be applied for, and against any device within same segment levels.

For me it is objective, since if launched at same time, I would pick Fascinate over the Inc- due to the hardware feature set.

None the less, the Galaxy does not have 2.2 ATM (and probably will drag on, unless Samsung has devoted more resources to its software group). Inc (sucky call quality the exception) will do me for now, since a very good device- as you point out.

added:

Still, all things constant I agree on premise of 2.2, since I would rather have the Inc and 2.2 than perhaps wait months for 2.2 to be on the Fascinate.

IMO:

(Inc + 2.2) > (Fascinate + 2.1)

BTW, the battery perspective with the Inc is a misnomer IMO. It is no better or worse than other Snaps and people thinking a 1350 battery will last a day using 3G, live wallpapers, social apps, gps, pictures, Flash etc need to stay away from gas fumes ;)

It's a great phone, but why do you make that statement?

I haven't seen one Android phone blow the doors off every other in ALL categories.

I agree. No phone has ever blown me away to the point where i would ever say it was the "best" phone ever.

Thats the beauty of android phones. They each have enough tweaks that one phone of the same model can be completely different than another phone of the same model.

This thread has gone pretty far afield. The original question was, "Should I keep my Incredible or sell it and trade up for a Fascinate." Here's the way I would answer the question.

The deal with Android handsets is that a new "best" phone comes out every 2 months or so. Like the original poster, I too get all hot and bothered by the latest and greatest gadgets. But unless you are positively rolling in it, the cost to upgrade to the newest hardware is going to be prohibitive. And remember, the Fascinate is the newest, "best" phone on Verizon right now, but what happens in October or November when the new "best" phone comes out?

There are major changes on the horizon for smartphones that you would do well to wait for. LTE is going to bring a completely new line of smartphones that give you superior speed. The current crop of OMAP and Snapdragon processors are pretty old, technologically speaking, and there are a ton of new chipsets in the pipeline. And the biggest reason to wait is that Google is working steadily on Android 3.0, which is rumored to include some serious changes to the UI and media playback.

Most people on this forum really, really like the Incredible. I do too. It's a solid, powerful phone with HTC Sense. Also, it's easy to root, if that appeals to you. Now that 2.2 is out, it's even better.

I would recommend that you stick with your Incredible and give your gadget lust a cold shower. In a year you'll have a choice of smartphones that make the Incredible and the Fascinate look like Motorola StarTACs.

What phone is better than the DInc right now? And not because of a preference factor.

Droid X? Bigger screen, sounds like preference to me.
Droid2? Not a chance in hell
Galaxy? No 2.2 eliminates it right off the bat.
It sure as heck isnt any windows phone or blackberry device.

If you say Iphone ill find you and hurt you. lol jk

Listen, im open to things. If you can honestly give me a device that is better, ill accept it. As of right now, i dont think anything is better.

But this is false. This phone is not the best. Its the newest. I dont think anyone will agree its the best because theres no possible way, running 2.1, that it is the best.

I will disagree. First of all LTE will not be rolling out in most markets for a while, so why hold out?

Chipsets are outdated? Speaking of the Hummingbird(Samsung) is a new line.

OMAP just released their newest line of sets. how is this outdated?

The only thing i can see is that you are going from the rumor mill (verified or not) on the newer 1.2ghz+ processor running Android 3.0.

And speaking of Android 3.0, this is going to be released on very few handsets in 2010. Very few.

I think the OP is simply wanting our opinions of each device that he mentioned. Not on a lineup of devices that are not available yet.

Question seems simple on the OP's point, assuming within the trade window:

1. If Flash is not a concern- at least for several months
2. If you do not mind Bing (no Google) being your search option and no other ATM (true)
3. If 2.2 features are not an issue for several months

Yes, trade it. Probably December before 2.2 is released for the Galaxy, based on the way both Samsung and VZW have responded about 2.2.

I am specifically saying that the OP should wait until next year, and my post was written to reflect the changes we will see then, not anytime this year.

The Fascinate is using a Cortex-A8 chip that is basically a 45nm version of the original 65nm design. So, while it's true the Hummingbird is the nicest processor on the smartphone market right now, there is a coming wave of new-gen platforms just over the horizon. The next generation of ARMv7 chips will be based on the Cortex-A9, and especially the Cortex-A9 MPCore. Qualcomm-based smartphones have a bump to 45nm coming that will push clockspeeds above 1.2Ghz before they step up to the 3rd gen platforms. The smartphone space is in an arms race, so you can be sure the major ODMs (Apple, HTC, Motorola, Samsung) will be moving rapidly to the newer tech. Anyone selling OMAP 36xx or QSDxxxx phones is going to be chided for their outdated hardware in 12 months.

LTE is coming this year to 30 markets, and Verizon has been pushing for the biggest, fastest LTE rollout in the US. Even if LTE isn't in your area right away, people should think about buying an LTE-enabled phone so they are ready for when it does come.

Android 3.0 is coming later this year, and there is already some talk about 3.5. Yeah, these are rumors now, but in 12 months we're all going to be complaining about how long it is taking HTC to port Gingerbread (or whatever the H dessert is) to the Incredible.

That's why I tell the OP to wait.

I liked the phone, until I tried it myself, and found out how much Google integration was stripped and replaced with Bing.

Not to mention when I tried the GPS an it was broken.

The Samsung Omnia was an awesome phone, and the Fascinate does look nice, nice spec, nice looking, and great camera details, like panorama, face detection, and burst just like on omnia, BUT BUT BUT

It comes with a Bing Experience o.O not Google Experience, that for me is a deal breaker right there.

The Omnia was really hampered by the WinMo system. It was sooooooo long in the tooth and you had to really work hard to make it work well. The hardware was good IMHO, and nice looking. I switched when I realized I was trying hard to make my phone look and act like an android phone. LOL

For the people who are saying that the Galaxy S has the CPU underclocked to 800mhz, can anyone provide a link? This is the first I'm hearing of it.

Is it all Galaxy S? Is it a Verizon specific tweak for the Fascinate? I was under the impression that every Galaxy S was using the 1ghz Hummingbird.

Well the flip side to that is which phone is the Inc better than across the board? Thats what Bearly is getting at. I can list pros and cons for every current Android phone. The only way any phone would be considered the best is if it didnt have any cons at all. Or like Bearly said:

"I haven't seen one Android phone blow the doors off every other in ALL categories."

And remember, the Fascinate is the newest, "best" phone on Verizon right now, but what happens in October or November when the new "best" phone comes out?

I cant see the Inc being the best right now either. Like the other current phones, its one of the best. If u think the only thing the X has over the Inc is screen size u dont know the features and specs of the X. Same for the Droid 2. With the Droid 2 it doesnt have as much as the X has, but it has advantages over the Inc too. They both have hardware advantages.

I would pick the Fascinate over the Inc if I had to choose between those 2. Saying cuz its running 2.1 doesnt make it the best or one of the best....I remember a time when the Inc was on 2.1..I'm pretty sure the Samsung phones are gonna get 2.2 too. If I'm not mistaken, 2.2 just got sent out OTA to the Froyo within the last few weeks.

And these phones do have hardware. The Fascinate not having 2.2 doesnt eliminate it from being the best or one of the best. It has hardware advantages over the Inc., just like the X and Droid 2 does.

Reading that Engadget review....it wasnt that bad to me. That phone should be better than a 6/10. It fell apart when it got to the software, like with the X. Sense UI is just that good. Its also a victim of coming out after other current phones with decent specs too.

About the stalling, freezing...if its cuz of that rfs file system, memory issue that some folks at xda and/or MoDaCo did a fix for...this is why I say stock vs. stock any current phone can go toe to toe with any other current phone. The stall issue is why the X, Inc, EVO, even the Droid 2 can compete with the Fascinate and the other current Samsung phones.

The only reason I would get the Fascinate over the Inc is cuz I know the stall issue can be fixed. It takes rooting to do it tho...

Me picking the Fascinate is assuming it has better reception than the Inc. That is my #1 want from any phone from now on. If I tried the Inc and it had better reception than the Fascinate, Inc it is for me. If both have the same kind of reception, Fascinate. I'm glad this phone wasnt out when I got my phone...

I agree. The review was not a roast. Now, read the Engadget review of the Blackberry Torch. That is a bad review.

I mean, sure. They were in no means blown away by it, but keep in mind that this is their 4th Galaxy S review. Vibrant, Captivate, Epic, now Fascinate.

And here's what will likely come out Summer 2011, if not Q4 2011:

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2368763,00.asp

Samsung Orion dual-core Cortex A9 processor.

I'm curious about the power draw vs. a single-core chip, but look sweet. Does that mean I'll wait until then? Probably not.

Besides, I don't fully trust reviews anymore. You can never truly know which vendors get preferential treatment from reviewers. I'd rather hear from people in the community about a product after it's been out for a solid 30-45 days.

Debating which phone is better is fine, but lets not start attacking each other. If I have to come back I will close the thread and/or issue infractions.

My apologies. I wasn't aware that we were getting out of hand with any of the debates.
