Root Finally figured out how to turn off the ****ing button lights. (requires root)

Root and download "adjbrightness" from the market. bob's your uncle.
Too bad that it doesn't actually allow you to adjust the brightness... oh well maybe someday...

Root: use gingerbreak. Search xda-devs for a thread if you need more instructions/help but the latest version is 1.5 and that thread just has a link to 1.2 which will work as well, it's just not the latest version.

Guys, moving this thread to the all-things-root sub-forum.

I was a little bit hesitant about doing so since this is a great tip, but if you guys end-up with a thread that gets stickied containing all your FAQ/goodies about this phone, that would be a great place to point to this thread, too.

Cheers!

I found a better solution: Keyboard Backlight Controller

Make sure if you use task killers (you shouldn't but that's another topic), that you don't kill it.

The advantage of this method, is it auto-starts with the phone. I had issues with adjbrightness not running at startup. Seems simpler to use as well.

i don't get the advantage, i only turn it off when watching movies.

I tried Keyboard Backlight Controller and my buttons started to flash on/off at times. (About the same speed as the LED light) I'd have to go into the app and uncheck/check again to stop the flashing. I uninstalled the app and the buttons started flashing again. o.O Going to try adjbrightness...

does anyone know how to do the same thing but with the stupid home menu and back keys that motorola thought would be a wonderful add to the droid razr m. i have eye issues n the lights hurt my eyes. i was able to find apps to change the background from back to white which is another fault of theirs and a screen filter but it doesnt work on the home buttons. any suggestions cause im going blind here lol. also is there an option to do this with out rooting the phone. this is my first smart phone so when it comes to that im pretty much dumber then a box of rocks. the easier the better.

I would think not, as it requires low level, kernel access. I would check the built in settings. If it's not there, you would have to root your phone to do it.

It might be scary, nut look into rooting your phone (I didn't say do it). You can do a few other useful things that are helpful. One thing would be removing useless apps. Look at your phone's "all things root" section and see what you think.
