Root Finally taken the plunge into rooting...HELP!!!

it would seem something is up with the SD card then?

Is there anyway of testing it?

The card is a kingston 16GB class 6, bought from a seller on ebay.....i know sometimes they are dodgy but i ave bought numerous cards from the same seller who has a phenomenly feedback for a couple of years now and have never had this problem.
there must be, youve proved it was corrupting files placed on it.
the md5 mismatch is because the file created is different to the file restored.

the zip files from different roms you placed on the card were corrupted and it couldnt install them due to it not being able open the package

dont think that is coincidence

As mentioned above. H2testw

Thanks danfrance, ill have to try to download the software at home tonight as i am at work and they dont let us download software.....how boring!

In the meantime is there anyway of refromating the new card to now try it in the phone as it seems to be up and running again?

Just use a card reader on a PC to format it (you'll need a micro to normal adapter)

Ultimately I think people read too much into the issues of rooting/flashing new ROMs and don't concentrate on the actual process. I've never had any issues doing either

thanks for all the advice guys.

I have reformated the card and put it back inot desire but it still doesn't seem to recognise it, it comes up saying somehting like the SD card is damaged and needs formatiing.

Think i'll wait until i get home and can run an H2testw on the card to see what is going on. I assume that will give me the true capacity of the card.

Worse case i guess i'll send the card back and get my money back and try again with another card.

i would anyway

kingston have a lifetime warranty, its rare for them to fail

so i managed to get a colleague in IT to run a H2testw assesment on my "new" SD card with the following result
The media is likely to be defective.
953.6 MByte OK (1953040 sectors)
14.6 GByte DATA LOST (30780144 sectors)
Details:0 KByte overwritten (0 sectors)
0 KByte slightly changed (< 8 bit/sector, 0 sectors)
14.6 GByte corrupted (30780144 sectors)
0 KByte aliased memory (0 sectors)
First error at offset: 0x0000000000000000
Expected: 0x0000000000000000
Found: 0xffffffffffffffff
H2testw version 1.3
Writing speed: 6.14 MByte/s
Reading speed: 8.70 MByte/s
H2testw v1.4

Am i right in interpretting this to mean my SD card is only a 1GB card and not the advertised and branded 16GB i was anticipating?

I don't think so but I can't say for certain. I've only ever used my 16GB SD card from the off (put it in before even first turning the phone on) and never had any issues

If the flash has been modified to report a fake value of 16GB (which is the case with most fakes now) the above result would be expected.

Looks fake to me.

OS's see it as 16GB so keep writing to it, however, as it is only 1GB, it actually overwrites the existing data once you hit its true capacity, corrupting the older data.

On the plus side, its a class 6. :(

EDIT> where did you get it? How much?

i bought it from a trader on ebay that i have used for quite a few years now without issue.

I can't remmber the price but it was compareable to others i had seen for sale.

Needless to say that will be going back.

Ebay is riddled with fakes. Often sellers don't even know (or so they will state).

Any flash memory, bite the bullet, pay full price and buy from a reputable retailer only.

Its unfortunate, but the only way.

thanks danfrance.

sometimes a deal can be too much of a deal.

At least the phone is working again and i have not lost any important data, still have all my photos and important stuff so its not that bad i guess!

What now!!!!!

NOw cant get a wifi signal at home. It sees the connection and gets as far as "Obtaining IP address" then bombs out and tries again.

Any suggestions?

My wife is sat next to me with an unrooted desire and all the settings seem the same and she has a strong connection. Have tried turning off and on, forgot the network a couple of times and very careful put in the key...no joy.

hmm im wondering if lee added the wifi suplicant by default again.
this had issues with certain router configurations
also could be a radio issue
what radio are you using?

EDIT, dont think he did
did you flash the wifi supplicant patch on his thread? if you did then it can cause issues

dorsetsav: I've just taken a peek at the LeeDroid thread in XDA, and there are a few people reporting problems with WiFi in LeeDroid 2.3 (don't know whether posting my search results will work, but: xda-developers - Search Results). Nearest to a solution I've seen is this post from Lee: [FroYo Sense] LeeDrOiD V2.3a (14/12 l Official l OC&UV l FAST l STABLE l WWE) - Page 1394 - xda-developers. Don't know whether editing the contents of a zip file was something you intended to do this quickly though!

Apparently the A2SD+ version doesn't have the problem. Or a different ROM (or wait for Lee to issue a version without this problem).

ive just read the entire thread, removing of apps wont fix the wifi issue but will fix other fc issues
seems theres a bug, i think he accidently left supplicant in the build
he did this before a few months back and had to make it optional as it killed wifi for half the users.
some routers dont like it

Ah, I read the post from Lee that implied it would fix it, but it did sound a little strange. This sounds (unfortunately) more plausible.

Sorry not to have replied to the messages but i was out last night so was unable to play around with the phone.

So Leedroids new Rom has an issue with wifi. I thought i had downloaded an old version of the non A2SD version, maybe i am wrong. My software information on the phone says Software Number LeeDrOiD V2.3.

In order to get my wifi working for now can i flash an older leedroid ROM onto the phone, i have a copy of Leedroid 2.2f with A2SD. I did not use this intially as i had no partition on my SD card because of the issue's i was having with that at the time.

I guess now i could copy off the contents of my SD card, reformat my SD card throught the phone and add a partition, then reinstate the data onto the SD card with the 2.2f ROM and reflash the phone.

Would this give me wifi back again?

On a side note my seller on ebay has contacted me to say it appears the latest batch of SD cards he recieved where faulty. Please return for full refund.
Maybe ebay is not totally full of scammers!!!
