Finally the 3pin Car dock. (modification needed)

What I meant to say about the audio is does it still work through the 3 pins I wonder.

OT:

Is AF super slow lately? I can't edit a post to save my life

I neglected to buy a case, specifically because I predicted I would buy this dock... Now, I don't think I need it.

Even the GSM version seemed a little snug also. I can't buy it until i get back from Korea. Which is stupid. When i go to the play link it says not available in my country...which is the home country of Samsung....whatever. lol. I wanted to order it and have it waiting on me when i go home. I may have the wife order it for me.

I do appreciate this info, I just find it unbelievable that after almost six months I still can't get a pogo dock for this phone unless I am willing to do some modifications. Unfortunately, considering how long its been already and with a new Samsung phone on its way there will probably never be a pogo dock released for the Verizon Gnex. This mod might be the only chance to get one.

i was able to find a work around. Mine is ordered and will be at home waiting on me when i get there in a few weeks.

Anybody seen this.... The Limb.al? I saw it in the comments on the droid-life video. Its basically a 6" long micro usb cable, but instead of a flimsy cable its stiff yet bendable.

$17 on kickstarter. Seems quite interesting. Maybe a cheaper alternative to a cradle...good for traveling for use in a rental car. Combine it with a 1amp 12v usb adapter and you are set. I'm thinking about it..... not expected until September though. 2 days left to order.

interesting, I'd be concerned about stress on the microUSB port though. they get beat to heck through normal usage and this would add the whole weight of the phone bouncing around...

I just ordered mine from the Play store. $10 for shipping was a little steep, but it did say "Two-Day", so I'm hoping to have it by Friday.

After watching the mod video, I have to believe there is a better way than to gouge at it with a kitchen knife. I'm hoping that I can take that part out of the dock, put it on my CNC mill and use a 1/16" endmill bit to route it out cleanly. If it works, I can create a profile and CNC these for a small fee.

According to one of the commenters, that seems like it may be possible.

Awesome! I missed that post. Looks like my plan will work. After I get mine in and do the mod, I'll take some pictures and post the results. I might even try to record the milling portion and post that to our company YouTube account.

Thanks!

yeah i agree about the shipping.

as far as the mod i'm going kitchen knife all the way...i have some awesome kitchen knives tho :)

I don't know if there is a difference in the CDMA versions but I can confirm that this works with a Sprint Galaxy Nexus. My dock just came in the mail (ordered from Play Store). After about 10 minutes of hacking with the dremel and a knife, it works perfectly. As others have noted, it is a tight fit but it has already started to loosen up a little while I was trying to fix the volume buttons. I am going to try using it as a dash cam 4th of July weekend on my Jeep. I'll let you know how it does.

My mobile dock mount came in today. Google's Two-Day shipping was right one, since I ordered Weds. morning.

Once I got it open, I pulled out the volume rocker and saw that it was made of fairly dense rubber. I popped my phone in and noticed that it was only being obstructed on the volume-down end of the slot. Instead of over-complicating with my CNC, I pulled out one of my rounded needle files. It only took about 5-10 good slides of the file to hone down that end of the slot and the job was done.

Gave it a try after the mod and I liked it so much I recorded a mobile video and uploaded it to YouTube. The video is really just showing off how steady the mount is:

Thanks for the heads up. I don't read these forums super often but I've been waiting for this dock solution for a long time just like everybody else. I deliver for a living so this will make my job easier and keep my phone charged with less in car mess. Placed my order...

Hi all,

I've been looking on the Droid Life comments section and there seems to be a lot of reports that the dock doesn't actually charge the phone. Can those of you with the modified mount verify this?

It seems that the icon shows up but if you go into settings it shows that it's actually not charging. There is also talk of it charging at USB rates instead of AC rates which apparently can't keep up with 4g use.

I'd love to get it but at $70 if I can't use it as a gps (that stays charged) it's kind of useless to me.

^^ i can't answer that yet. Mine is still at home waiting on me to get back from out of town. Maybe someone else can chime in. It's a good question.
