First impressions of jelly bean OTA update

I"m on the fence regarding keeping my JB Sorcery ROM or going back to stock and getting the VZW OTA jelly bean update. So to all out there getting the update - give me your first impressions of it . What do you think - good, bad, ehh? Personally, I'm unsure. Unless it gives me really good battery life, a louder speaker and seamless picture messaging, it's a no-go. Thoughts?

What do you know... maybe I should have posed the question the way this OP did :) I'm also interested to hear people's reaction to MMS, battery, radios, signal, etc... you know, the goods :)

We'll see if it stays. I just want to see what people (rooted or not) think about the update. Will it live up to the hype, or is just the same thing we've had available to us for a while now. Hopefully we'll get a lively discussion that will help undecided people like me choose between returning to the stock world or adventuring further into Jelly Bean ROMland.

I'm on sourcery, wondering the same thing...i am trying to pull the update on my wife's in rooted nexus. I'll report back out shoot you a pm when i can answer some questions.

Well you guys can go back to stock and enjoy the base that rom devs have been building on and improving for weeks.

All in all it really isn't much different than ICS. For me sitting at home the radios are MUCH worse... I will be going back to the last ICS radios.

You should give it some time to be sure. Reception in my house varies constantly. I could have -85 dBm one minute and -120dbm the next. I think its too soon to judge radio performance. You need to monitor reception over a couple of days. Unless you get no reception at all....

I agree with this, give it some time, there has been much discussion on these radios since they were leaked and almost all of it has been good

Quite simply performance and appearance is like running Bugless Beast. Buttery smooth like you would expect from any JB ROM.

I'm going to run this with Francos kernel (#268 (512)) and the stock battery for the next week just to see what I can squeeze out of it.

In my opinion if you like all the Sourcery customizations there is no reason to consider this.

Well, your JBSourcery ROM is based on the same files that are being pushed with the VZW OTA. The only thing different would be you'd lose the features of Sourcery.

If you want to see what it's like stock, I'd recommend flashing a ROM that's stock with root. That way you don't have to re-root when you finally decide to go back to custom ROMs.

my first impression is that battery life is horrible and i'm going to put a custom kernel on tonight asap.

I on the other hand couldn't be happier with Jellybean...Radios work excellent where I'm at...its also buttery smooth...battery life is well what its always been..that can be fixed by a different ROM. Other than that I'm satisfied.

This has been my (very brief) experience so far as well. More time will tell. Everything is faster, and a bit smoother. Google Now is great, notifications are better, etc. Very nice

The radios are significantly better!!!

Due to its construction, reception in my office has been weak. I've struggled to maintain a data signal at my desk. Thankfully, my job uses VZW for its corporate phones, so they installed a network extender. still, my nexus couldn't hold a signal, but today I'm sitting at full 4G!!!

well worth the wait

the other big improvement is in the text fields within the browser. Things used to be hard when it came to cursor placement and such... now it's much better.

Somewhat smoother all around, ICS was already pretty smooth to me, tho
