Root First Time Partioning, have a question

So I just got a 16gb patriot class 10 and wanted to partition it...
I backed up my 8 gb card to the laptop
Powered off
Put the 16 gb card in
booted to recovery (amon ra 2.3)
selected partition sd card
Partition sd
The first question it asks me is swap size = ? Is this in regards to creating a swap because i dont really need one, or is this its way of asking me how large i want the partition to be? Or will that be the second question?

I know it seems like a dumb question but I just didnt want to creat a partition size of 0 if im wrong lol. I just didnt anticipate it asking me about swap size first. I figured it would ask how big a partition i wanted first and i dont know what a swap is anyhow and wont be using it.
 
OK so that is the swap size, from what I read in researching is that i dont really need a swap but ive seen people use like 128mb for swap size...I guess a better question is what the hell is swap?
 
OK i did more googling even though i have been googling all day. Apparently swap is like an extra memory space if all virtual memory is being used, its accessed slower though. Where i read it suggested I use a swap equal to the size of my available memory, but people i trust say i dont really need it. To hell with it, im creating a small one, like 128 and hope thats ok...

Im kinda surprised noones answered ya yet, I would help, but i havent found anything that you didnt.... so, im kinda at a loss as well man :( I just ordered a 16 GB card and wasnt anticipating having to make a partition either... can someone help?:D
 
lol right, im just going with it lol swap wont hurt if i have it set aside, wasted space most of the time but whatever. According to Akaza usually set ext to between 512 and 1 g. I have this for installing dark tremor and this info from akaza. Happy hunting.
 
Basically, it's going to ask you for two sizes. The first is swap. I believe the default is 32. Just stick with that. It doesn't need to be that big. The next thing it will ask you is the size of the actual partition where you will put your apps. That is the one you'll want to make between 512 MB and 1 GB.
 
Why couldnt I have found this yesterday? wish someone would have googled that for me lol. Its a dark tremor guide that i didnt have.
 
Nah dark tremor on cm 7 destroyer broke my status bar every time. It's ok I just have wasted space now and gave up on dark tremor while on this rom unless you have an idea or another way to get my apps to sd
 
Ah, yeah, I don't think it's fully compatible with anything CM7 yet. Don't quote me on that, though, as I haven't done too much research yet. I've been pretty busy lately.
