Root first time rooting/flashing - issues - cool kingdom v6

No you won't lose root.

Edit: I have to go out for a while now, so if you have any further questions I'm sure someone here will be able to help.

I hope everything goes well for you.

not familiar with the rom your trying to flash, but if it requires the partition for a2sd+ and you have not made a partition, it will probably just bootloop.

Partitioning wipes the card, and will also undo goldcarding (which would need repeating, but you can use the existing goldcard img). It won't unroot the phone, because that's a matter of the phone's software rather than the card contents.

It doesn't matter what order you do the rooting and partitioning in.

Put the zip on the normal (fat32) partition of the card. You won't be able to copy to the ext partition from Windows anyway.

cheers for that was wrecking my head, another question i'm try to partition using gparted in a vmplayer but it won't recognise my SD card is there any way i've set the vmplayer up wrong?

i havrn't any spare cd's handy so SUroot said to use a VMplayer instead which i setup but it doesn't read the SD card if i had a CD it would be alot easier but i can't get any until tomorrow
I'd suggest you not complicate the matters. Yes, Gparted can be booted via WMware Player virtually or from a standard USB stick, but the easiest way is to simply put it on a CD and boot the PC.

Also, some people have trouble to find the card in Gparted to partition, if the card is still in the phone. It is much easier to use a cardreader (almost every notebook has it).

i have a separate card reader and VMplayer doesn't pick it up i guess i will have another try tomorrow when i can get hold of some cds, shame as i wanted to get this sorted tonight so i had some play time before i head to work tomorrow

I don't know VMplayer either. Playing with VirtualBox and Ubuntu I got GPartEd to see my card, but it involved a little faffing - giving the VM access to the phone, then mounting the card (for file transfer) did the trick. It may be that there's something similar needed with VMplayer to let the VM rather than the host computer see the phone, and if that isn't enough try mounting/unmouting the card from the phone.

All I can suggest really - fiddle with the options and see what works (my usual way with computers :))

Too bad. I have moved to ubuntu and hadn't got vmware player so I installed it and created a machine to do it step by step for you:

Once you have installed vmware player:

Open VMplayer
click "create new virtual machine"
Select "I will install the Operating system later"
Next
Select "other" and again in the drop down.
Next
Set name as "CD bootable" if you like or leave as is.
The machine will take up a small amount of space, so ensure you are happy with teh location.
Next
Store virtual disk as single file
Set disk size as 0.5 or something
Next
"Customize hardware"
highlight CD drive in left and in right, "use ISO image". Browse to your gparted.iso or alpharev.iso or whatever.
Save
Finish
The machine will start up in a new window. If it does not, you can play it from the main window.

Plug your phone in. Look at the bottom edge on the right of the window. You should hover over the icons as one will be your phone. Click on it and select "connect to guest" and thats it. Go through the process

i think i've cracked it, i didn't do it your way but i got it to show and i made a partition of 1gb ext3 and when i check the properties of the sd card there is 1gb missing so has it work?
