Root [FIX][MOD] Text-To-Speech for BO & BP

** Disclaimer ** I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone upon following the instructions in this tutorial. Though I am positive nothing should go wrong while doing so, it is always better to be safe. Do this at your risk.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

- ClockWorkMod [CWM]
- BusyBox [As long as you are properly rooted, you got it.]

I come with great news for everyone! After some hard work [Learning in the process], I come to you with my very first flashable .zip file which fixes the issue of Text-To-Speech [Tts] not working on the Broken Out and Black Plague ROMs. The issue was caused due to the apps not being included in the ROMs and due to some system files missing.

What I did was grab the PicoTts.apk and TtsService.apk from the stock ROM [along with their .dex files]. I deodexed them and put them in the proper folder structure for flashing. I also grabbed the system/tts folder from stock which was missing from BO and BP to be flashed as well. I then created the script for cwm.

The mod works perfectly well. [I flashed it over myself and it worked.]

The script will automatically detect if you have previously attempted to manually install Text-To-Speech and delete the files to avoid any errors. After you flash, reboot and you are done. :) The best way to test it works is by downloading Skyvi from the Play Store and using her. (It would crash as soon as you opened it when tts was not working.)

I will be working on a fix for Bluetooth pairing as well in the upcoming days for BO and BP. ;)

Steps:

  1. Copy the attached .zip file to your SD Card directory.
  2. Reboot into CWM and flash it over.

I don't even know what text to speech is (never used it before) but it's good to see people still active making this phone better. :)
 
Text-To-Speech is an engine that reads text on your phone and "speaks" it back to you in a synthetic voice. The stock ROM for the Connect came with Tts, but it was left out for BO and BP for some reason. This flashable .zip fixes that problem. :)

Try using Skyvi or Assistant from the Play store. (Skyvi is the equivalent of Apple's Siri) I prefer Assistant (which works without tts for some reason).
 
Ah. Got it. I'm gonna give it a go, I noticed my metro visual voicemail don't show texts anymore. Hope this fix that.
 
Yea I have that fixed along with the bluetooth issues in BP, just been to lazy to package it up lol
 
Lol I have been busy with other things as well, which is why I disappeared for a while. I still have not perfected the Application Duplication I have going here and, ironically, it only seems to work for the app I was trying to duplicate.. no other. xD

I still want to try and find out what the problem is though, just can't think of the reason why it is not working. :/
 
This should work with rom number two as well shouldn't it? i'm going to try it out in a few and let you know
 
Just tried it on rom number 2 and YUP worked like a charm
was wondering why skyvi kept fcing immediately but i didnt care too much for it so i just wrote it off as a coincidence.
