Root [Fix] Stock recovery coming back/Custom recovery wont stick

I'm also having the problem on my rooted Moto Droid (Android 2.2.3, ROM Mgr 4.8.0.7) if I flash SPRecovery it works once and disappears, in order to get CWM 2.5.0.1 to work I first flash SPRecovery (then CWM), but then another reboot (after using CWM once) that also disappears.

Since most of this thread is really old, I'm not sure which advice to try. There are newer versions of CWM but am too clueless to know if I can try anything newer, since CWM 2.5.0.1 is what ROM Mgr installed by default.

> Is flashing a newer CWM safe and/or would make a difference?
> Am I "partially" rooted?
> Some forums talk about downgrading Android to 2.0/2.1 is that something I need to do?

My goal is to get CWM working consistent/stable, then play with flashing custom ROMs. I would appreciate any suggestions anyone might have.

THANK YOU!!!!

>Flashing a newer version of CWRecovery is safe, but won't fix your situation.

>There's really no such thing as being partially rooted.

>Downgrading is not needed, nor will it fix it, and what a hell of a long way around the barn.

What you need to do is
Rename /system/recovery-from-boot.p to /system/recovery-from-boot.p.old.
There are various ways to do this. Or you can just flash a custom rom as that command is 'built in' one way or another.

good luck

Teddyearp - renaming the file did the trick. Thanks for all of the info, I do appreciate it!

It took some putzing around to figure out re-mounting /system (r-w) through Android Terminal Emulator.

Thanks again!
